I don't know how they got away with this because I was studying societal drug issues at the time at Macquarie UNiversity and the lecturer Jara Krivanek pointed out that it is actually illegal in Australia to depict any drug in an advertisment (including alcohol) making a person more popular or improving their social experience.
Perhaps the loophole was that it was an animation and the focus was on a bear not a person.
If pot gets legalized I hope to see Stoner Sloth in ads promoting it.
