I love the biomes update! There is potential there!
I just started playing last month and I am now level 27. This update has been amazing. I used to always find the same pokemon in my area and now depending on where I am in my city I can find different pokemons.
Wait. Doesn't Niantic already have certain spawns each season for cities, mountains, forests etc...? How is this not repackaging something they already did with a different background and calling it new?
It's not any different at all, it just feels differently right now because of the excess/special kanto spawns. Once that event is over, spawns will likely feel exactly the same as they did before the update.
This is true. The game still had "habitats" based on the same geolocation data. Its just much more official now with the Kanto spawns and the visual representations of those habitats.

Lots of potential and pitfalls!!!
Good things: It's easier to identify the biomes by the background. Before this, it was truly a guessing game. In areas where it is pretty clear to figure out the specific biome you're in, it's also very welcome so you can hunt for certain mons based on the biome. We also now know where to go if we want a better chance at certain mons.
Bad things: It's still not always easy to know the biome you're in. I was at a local park where there is a path on a lake. Depending on exactly where the mon was, I could be in many biomes within the spawn area. I saw park, lake, and city (and possibly others, as the screens are not uniform to a particular biome which is both cool and frustrating at the same time)... so hunting for specific mons in some areas can be difficult depending on your expectations. Also, the fact that some biomes are rare (I'm looking at you. beach biome), that accessing certain biomes may be difficult to impossible for many trainers to get to these biomes. Not just getting there, but is the area exploration friendly enough that playing isn't going to be a matter of having to compete with others who have different agendas.

I hadn't even realised there's meant to be different spawns in different biomes. I'll be in one spot and the encounter biome changes based on the pokemon I tapped into. I thought it was just these dumb spawn events were finally done for a bit cause I finally got some consistent variety for more than the 1 day between themed events.
That all said, visually the update slaps. I thought that's all it was, a visual update, and reckon it's great.
Yeah the visuals are done soooo well. The one really good aspect of biomes is that it introduced so much variety of spawns on the map.
It's a cool idea. Hopefully they don't lean too far into biome exclusivity as not everyone has access to several biomes.
Accessibility is still a major issue so I hope this helps with it instead of further adding to it. Very interested to see how they use this new tool.

a 80/20 split would be cool I think. 80% are restricted to their biomes and 20% can spawn anywhere

I love the biomes update but I don't seem to get any different spawns. I get city spawns in beach biomes and vice versa. It doesn't seem to matter whether I'm in a grass or forest biome either. So I would like to know how big the overlap is. It seems to be really big. Maybe the constant events are messing up with the spawns but I will never know cuz there are events every single day and a new event starts before the current one ends
Ok, there was a AR change for the best buddy, it was horrible, someone told me to go in settings and I turned it off. Great! Biome stuff cool but my phone doesn’t like it, runs hot plus the battery drain. Avatar stuff still is horrible. Have been playing less but still walking for physio. Take care
We've always had biomes. Now we just have visual updates for them that tank the frame rate and make the game unplayable for some of us. At least the avatar update doesn't do that.
I live in the mountains, I recently found out that a huge nest near me, is also an ocean biome!! Does that mean Wigglet can spawn here???
dosent work well here in denmark..i still find magikarp in the city but none on the beach..i was to day to the beach and it was just like allways have..random pokemons that have nothing to do with the ocean :)
Update is great and all but how tf can they not have fixed the “cant battle and be in a party” bug yet
They should let us be able too let our pokes do tricks or something where we can take a ar pic with a poke in middle of doing a flip or maybe let us put more then one poke in the ar frame so we can take a pic with 2 pokes together...even more let us video in ar n record...ofc if we can record in ar would have too add features that will make the vid interesting
Honestly count, It seems like Nerfantic uses the fuck ups as a means for promotion because there’s no reasonable explanation of why after a fuck up, along with the outrage from the community do they go on a media blitz to try and “Promote” these underwhelming features
Yeah and they don't know how to promote the good stuff too lol. Their Social Media pages seems run by a bunch of underpaid third party contractors.

Biomes and the visuals that go with them are fantastic. I just wish it hadn't come after the total destruction of my beautiful avatar. 😭
I still almost never play, or if I do it's only for a few minutes, because I can't stand how ugly and manish my girl is now.
I very much agree that this feels like it brought back the expiration feel of 2016. You're spot on when you said it feels like PoGo has been mostly about raiding as of late.
The only downside is that if your immediate area doesn't contain a certain biome, you have to go to a neighboring city or even travel to another country to reach that biome.
Yeah it requires some degree of travel. However, there is still potentially quite a good variety within a given area.
What in the absolute pig is magicarp doing not near water? I've always found this weird.

I am not remotely interested in the Biome update. I am not slightly interested in exploring them.
I honestly don't care about biomes. So far, it looks like my entire suburb is one biome, haven't found anything else yet. Wish they would address the issues on the catch screen that they knew about before this update, but did nothing about. And I know everybody is gonna come at me, buy a new phone. My phone is a year and a half old. So no. This is their issue. They should address it. We don't need individual moving leaves and blades of grass on the catch screen. The turn off fancy graphics only turns off the clouds, not the moving foliage. :( That might be enough to fix the issue.

What? This Kanto event is awesome...can get pokes I usually can't find it's a great event...I know you're not talking biomes cause it's not an event
