- The ventrogluteal injection site is often recommended as a safer location for intramuscular injections. Let's have a look at the anatomy here to see why.

This is a detailed video explaining the anatomy of gluteal muscles along with nerves and vessels. The only one you will need to understand the site of IM injections in the gluteal region. Thank you very much Dr Sam for the wonderful explanation.
Thank you so much. I'm a nurse and while I did study this anatomy... it's been a while! At a new job, I'm going to be giving Vivitrol injections, and I feel a lot better having watched this for a review.
Best explanation - Thanks for showing the bones and muscles.
THANK YOU! It's so much better knowing exactly what and where I'm trying to do instead of just being shown an area above the butt with hands split. This is really helpful and appreciated.
The best and most comprehensive video I have seen on the vent glute anatomy. Thank you!
Very useful, dr. Sam. Thank you for your explanations, never boring, full of details and entertaining
Definitely very visual. The skeleton and Wee Man help a lot. Excellent. Thank you.
Fantastic video. I am a Student Learning Disability Nurse, and this has really helped me whilst on placement!
San. Wonderfullll explanation. I thank you as a nurse and faculty from UFCSPA/Brazil for this didatic video.
Thank you Sam Webster! I am in my third quarter in nursing school and my instructors have not explained this to me as well as you did just now!
How clearly and closely u present things
Love you sir
Big fan and consistent student of yours 🤠
You're the best, doc. Huge thanks!
Yes Sam, very useful. Thank you ever so much. 🤗
your Belt is amazing...Respect!
Just as I thought. The all popular method of using the index finger on the iliac spine and middle finger on the crest is no bueno. Look at how he had to stretch his middle finger to the right just to allow access to the anterior edge of the vg. I figured people who use this method were injecting really close to the edge of the muscle. I was right. No wonder so many people have mistakenly hit the wrong spot. At least I have a better understanding of the muscle and its actual size and location. Thank you.
The best explanation for us nurses!
My kind of guy - detailed and clear! Thank you!!!
This is an amazing video. Very helpful, thank you.
Can you superimpose the outline of a dad bods body on this so I know where to stick myself please?
Learnt a lot sir.... very insightful

this was very useful, thanks!
Thank you sir. Please do a video like this for quarts
Such an excellent video. Only thing I think that's missing is possibly pointing it out on a real human as opposed to the dummy. Thanks for the content!
Great video ❤
Many thanks for the good insight😊😊😊
Thank you very much, wonderful
😢thank you so much Dr sam
You are the goat! thank you
Very nice doctor
I following you will help me to understand more about Anatomy
Thank you so much 🎩🙏🤗
Thank you
How do you find your own ventral glute?
Thank you so much sir
I did it on my left side to inject anti-inflammatory and muscle relaxant drugs but I think I hit side connective tissue band and now, after two weeks, I still can't squot properly. I hope it isn't going to be permanent damage
Beautiful
I have problem exactly there, how can I solve the problem please? Thank you in advance
@12:27 if youre just trying to find out where to pin your gear.
Amazing how so many gear users inject in the rear glutes instead of ventrogluteal
Best video IM ever!
What about the fascia lata? Is it ok to pierce through it or should we inject near our middle finger to be safe?
Edit: Wait, I'm confused. I'm talking about the ligament at 14:46
That's a great question.
Yes, I have done it on myself accidentally a couple times and it makes my hip stiff for a few days but I haven’t noticed any permanent problems because if it.
I’m searching for an answer to that question too!
Teşekkürler, thank you :)
Thanks Sir
keep going
Which one is better though?
I winced just seeing this title - I've had this done wrong and boy does it hurt like hell
thanks alottt
I’ve been using a 20-22g for my TRT shots into the quad and keep hitting something that causes my muscle to twitch, it hurts like hell maybe I will try this spot 😅
20g man use a 27g in your delt or here
21gauge to draw and 23ga to inject. Doesn’t sound like you were prescribed trt. If you were, you would have received other drugs with it such as anastrozole and hcg plus a packet on specific injection instructions.Always inject into ventrogluteal. Don’t listen to all the nonsense on the internet. It’s the safest place to inject.
Try 21 to draw and 27 to inject,
I was using a 25g in my quad and got the same when I spoke to my Dr about the twitch he just said the muscle is tired and to use a different spot from time to time and give it a break
I hope a lot of nurses learn from yr presentation. I've had the luck of encountering totally inept nurses, which i am sure hit my sciatic nerve, when i get an injection. !!!!
How painful was it and were there any lasting effects?
Unfortunately, years ago nursing school taught nurses to give dorsal gluteal injections which risk hitting the sciatic nerve. Within the past few years, they have started teaching the ventrogluteal injection site as best practice. If you have encountered older nurses, they may just be doing what they were taught and unaware of the change. I graduated in 2018 and we were taught to give injections this way in order to avoid the sciatic nerve
I have hemiplegia due to hematoma operation how can I get rid of this incant Walk properly since April 7 /2021 I m facing weakness in My Left side
I recently saw a chiropractor to address an issue in my right knee.. He noticed that my gluteus medius had locked up, making me relay on my abdominal obliques. Generally the only way to rectify a muscle weakness is to do strengthening exercises. There are plenty of abductor muscles exercises you can do at home using exercising bands or ankle weights. Strengthening your left-side abductors will stop you from dragging or swinging your right leg when you walk. I hope this is of some help.
TMI.. getting so nervous I can't do it..
Nice
Why not just move to the other cheek where there are a lot safer and less to stick into ?
me after watching this video: ready to inject myself like a pro
