    No cameos, but they are beautiful coins for sure. Thanks for sharing.

      Yeah, I can't be too bummed about no cameo with how nice the set is.

    "definitely nice" is an accurate statement for sure.

    Second! I've been trying with the idea of doing a similar video with a 64 proof set I picked up. I like it!

      That would be a fun video! A nice Accented Hair bomb would be sweet.

      Very cool. Welcome to the hobby! My biggest recommendation would be to really take the time to learn before making a bunch of purchases. I burnt up a bunch of money at first making some less than desirable purchases. These coins have been around for years and years and will still be available once you're set to make a buy.

    I’m not sure if you already know but the type 1 Franklin proof if I remember right is worth more and you can find out the difference on the reverse, the eagle wings on the left side have four feathers.
    Edit: on the 1956

      I had completely forgot about that when I was opening it up, but saw it when I was researching afterwards. Unfortunately, I had the type 2. Thanks for sharing all the same! Always happy to get tips and pointers.

      I’ll always be a newbie in the numismatic hobby. It seems like I learn something new everyday when it comes to these coins, tokens and bullion metals. I love it.

    Last year I got a 1960 Jefferson that graded out as PR68 DCAM.

    I do this whenever I can get a set for a reasonable price. Lottery ticket with no downside.

      Certainly a good way to look at it. I'll keep that in mind.

    It's very difficult to get cameo from 1950's to 1960's on anything. Remember just the first few hundred strikes on the dies will produce cameo. From this era they had huge production runs and must have worked the dies to death because many sets from this era are barely proof in appearance, many many are fairly dull and not much better than business strikes. Secondly getting really sealed sets is tough as the fakers are pretty good at checking them and resealing to make them look original unsealed. If you do find genuine untouched sets you will probably pay dearly for the privilege of opening. I think the set you got here is a pretty nice one for this year.

      Cameos are crazy tough. I even paid up for a Franklin half once that looked every bit cameo to me, but struck out on grading as such. I'll keep looking and hopefully find one someday. I certainly ain't disappointed in the set though. They are quite nice outside of a few marks on the quarter.

    As a collector? Does it matter if the envelope is sealed? Do they go for more? Went to an lcs where they had sets most had open envelopes some were sealed

    • @noobismatic
      @noobismatic  Před měsícem +1

      More often than not sealed sets will go for a premium, as there is the possibility of a cameo coin(s). The earlier date cameos can bring quite a premium because they are so rare to come across. I wouldn't pay over the top for a sealed set though, unless I was certain it untouched. Quite a few out there that repackage them to basically con people.

      The mint shipped these sets UNSEALED. If they are sealed someone did that after receiving them from the mint.

    Seems like everything has been picked through. steamed open? Resealed? I dont know. I just know I have a bunch and not a winner in any of them. Nice coins though you go there for sure. The stunners just seem tough to find.

    Nice coins. Never found any cameos myself yet. I don’t think I’ll ever trust a set being “sealed” because of how valuable a high PF DCAM coin can go for - and how easily the envelope can be glued back together. Don’t recommend paying a premium for a set labeled unopened. Would have better luck checkin antique shop sets that have already been opened, but the vendor doesn’t know what cameo even is lol GL & happy hunting

    Full steps is not a designation for proof coins...(full steps is not a variety either..just an indication of the fullness of the strike)

    • @noobismatic
      @noobismatic  Před měsícem +1

      Yeah, I'm thinking you're responding to when I mentioned an FS variety. I was referring to a Cherrypickers variety, specifically a TDR or triple die reverse. FS numbers are just numbers assigned to Cherrypicker listed varieties. The FS comes from original compilers of the list, Bill Fivaz and J.T. Stanton.

      I've kinda picked up on their general approach.... I think, haha. The biggest part for me is just knowing what I'm buying and what it's true actual value is.
