Car debt gives him a mission. Something to direct attention to (choosing a car) and something to pay off (the loan).
Redirection is all that is needed here.
They probably donât even want that car, and are just looking for the next set of goals to achieve. It could just as easily be a kitchen remodel, or a holiday, but a new car was just the first thing that came to mind.

@@jeffreynegapatan thatâs a pretty decent size shovel youâve got there mate! You can do a lot of heavy lifting in a short time with that, but you have to be motivated to smash that goal over all other things.
Iâm in a bit of a similar situation where we keep expenses below half our take home pay⊠that meant sacrificing on where we live, where we send the kids to school, when we go out to eat, etc.
The outcome is a very comfortable level of surplus we can pretty much do whatever we want with, and no sense of urgency (motivation) to be aggressive with paying off the mortgage and invest because holidays, home renovations, a new motorbike, or just Netflix and Uber eats would be more immediately satisfying⊠every day reminding yourself to have that long game unlocked when you are comfortable is against our basic human nature.

The motors in a Tesla are vastly more advanced and efficient than the obsolescent technology in an ICE vehicle.

@@libertarian4323 The power plants that make the electricity to charge it are about 30% efficient (Carnot cycle). On top of that, there are losses in the transmission system and losses in the charging unit itself. I have nothing against electric cars and will probably buy one when I need a new car, but don't think you are saving the world when you buy one.

With the current price of electricity (in my area at least), it actually costs quite a bit more to power an electric vehicle than a Prius. $43 for a 400 mile (top of the line) range vs $35 for a 550+ mile range.

My boyfriend has a Tesla. I have a Prius. We love our vehicles however I would still keep my Prius because I can still fill up gas in many places and until I can charge as easily on a road trip as fast and conveniently as I can get gas, I'd take my Prius all day long...depends on what this man wants a Tesla for...he's human and wants a new shiny object. Many of humans do when we are bored.

I was where this guy is a couple years ago, I took the plunge and paid it off in under a year. Best purchase Iâve ever made! The math still doesnât make sense but I love it.
From my experience in working with golf cars that come gasoline powered and electric. The gasoline powered are always cheaper and more reliable. On a gasoline powered car the first components to break down or become inoperable will be a part of the electrical system on that vehicle.

It is expensive to maintain a Tesla. My coworker pays $300 for a tire, thatâs 1200$ for all four. Also, recently saw on the news someoneâs home burn down because of one.

Do these people know that even if you have an electric car it still costs money to charge these things, whether at home or at a charging station. And a station usually takes 40 minutes....or more. And the electricity to charge it comes from some source. It doesn't magically appear out of thin air. So you're still using some energy source to produce your energy source.

An electric car is about twice as efficient as a hybrid when it is charged at home. But when you use other chargers it usually cancels out any savings depending on the cost of electricity.

As someone that is happily single and focused on their career, I love making any decision I want without needing it to get approved from someone else. Iâm no Einstein, but I like to think rationally and mostly make good decisions. Now Iâm sitting here and wondering, wow a married life is crazy. You gotta make sure both partners are on board before u do anything. If one partner doesnât agree then it most likely wonât come to fruition. Esp when it comes to finanaces

I bought a model s used for $28k. Costs me $5 for 250 miles. Actually saves about $2k a year in gas fees. We will see if it's worth it when a big repair is required.

Banks used to provide free checks and now you have to pay $1 for just three blank checks. This is due to the declining use of paper checks. It makes it unprofitable for the bank. The declining use of gas will cause the price to rise as well, if it becomes unprofitable to invest and run refineries.
The only thing wrong with driving a Prius is that it's the old school unsexy equivalent of driving a Checker Cab. They run over 300K with minimal maintenance. I told a Chicago cab driver that I drove a Prius just like his and he confirmed my numbers. Tough cars that can survive Chicago cab service. Financially a smart choice. Keep the Prii.

Thank you Mr Ramsey. I almost made that mistake, too. Currently, I am debt-free but was considering buying a Tesla Model Y LR in Australia for $90,000 AUD. That is my whole annual year income before tax!!! But then my cash-paid-for diesel-running Rav 4 reminded me how frugal it takes to run. So, I am still staying debt-free again. I bought a used tesla S for under 35k and I love it. I did save a ton of money because of free charging no maintenance and insurance. They make 155k so they can sell one of the prius and still easily afford a used tesla especially if it isn't an x.

Sell the PHD
Iâm 1:20 in and I can confirm - this woman IS a Tesla owner. She may not OWN a Tesla at the time of this call, but she is, in fact, a Tesla owner whether she knows it or not. Therefore, a Tesla WAS in fact purchased, likely very shortly after this video.
I'm in the same boat. But, I decided against buying a Tesla since I drive so little working from home. It would be a waste of money
