    I love my 2011 3.6R. The engine has a relatively high compression ratio (10.5:1) to run on 87 octane. It’s definitely a bottom and mid range engine. There’s no top end like a Nissan 3.5 VQ, but the midrange power is very strong and silky smooth. It sounds and feels like a turbine on the highway.

    It's a beautiful big wagon, a perfect family car. The 3.6 liter has plenty of grunt and that boxer 6 makes a wonderful growl. It's a lot of car for the money. You travel in safety and comfort, with no fear of bad roads or conditions. In fact, when it snows you want to go out driving!

      @@hayyache I do indeed! I test drove an Onyx XT and I still felt like mine had more power. It’s been a great vehicle for me.

      @@hayyache when I test drove mine the other day I threw it in reverse and the dealer plate flapped up into the sensor and the car stopped dead on me. It was shocking and I thought something was wrong because I didn't realize what happened at the time.

      @@hayyache I've had a bug in my ass about owning a Subaru for YEARS. I traded in because I was covid bored so I am hoping I stick with this vehicle longer than my usual 2 year track record 😬. I pickup in 3 hours !!!

    The Hill thing in my 2018 outback is just Hill assist. It turns the parking brake on automatically when you are stopped going up a slope. Once you accelerate the brake is released. Works in reverse too. I leave it on all the time.

    I floored the 2.5 going up a hill and I felt nothing…
    I floored the 3.6R going up a hill and the problem went away…

    I got the limited model. Better roof rack and no heated steering wheel. Much better for Florida living. Not as good gas mileage, but we travel in wife’s Forester with 2.5L.

    Recently rented out an Outback 2021 for family roadtrip, once I sat inside the vehicle, I was Wow with the interior, I did say “this looks like Volvo…”

    I own a 2017, 3.6 Limited. Love it. Drives and handles much better than the 2.5 subies. The extra weight of the engine provides the handling. Great getting up hills and passing even loaded down. the 2.5 just won't do it.

      I own a 2019 Outback Touring 3.6r. I firmly agree that the increased power of the 2.5 is a big improvement. I owned two previous 2.5 models. A 2001 Outback Premium and a 2015 Legacy Limited. After these too anemic engines. I swore I'd not own another in a Outback or Legacy.

    3.6R's only come in the upper trim levels which means you should have the paddle shifters.
    The CVT DOES shift, they gave it shift points because people didn't like the true CVT stepless action (sure, throw away the advantage of the trans for comfortable familiarity) but its buttery smooth, almost imperceptible.
    This is my first auto trans car (much less a CVT) because I hate them, but this one isn't bad.

    A few things CVT related. First, this isn't new tech for Subaru. Their first CVT was in 1989 with the Justy, Subaru makes the best because they've been making them for over 20 years. Secondly, they add shift points that are real physical ratios between the CVT spindles, this isn't just a computer shift point, its holding position between the 2 spindles and chain. That brings me to my last point, the competition uses a thin metal belt in their CVT's, Subaru uses a Chain about as wide as 2 timing chains. It is very robust and knowing heat is the CVT's weakness, Subaru typically includes 2 CVT coolers. Subaru CVT's are in a league of their own.

    I do like the bigger engine. I wouldn't call it a luxury wagon. That goes to Volvo wagons, E-class wagons, and Allroad wagons. This is more mid-tier

    Anyone know if there is an Outback with 3.6, auto trans, and no paddle shifters? If so, what year? Or is it CVT and paddles?

      The 2010-2014 3.6Ls have a regular 5spd auto with paddle shifters, they started putting in the CVT in 2015. You'd have to go back to the pre-2010 3.0L Outbacks to get the H6 with a slap shift auto instead of paddle shifters

      The Touring only i believe.

      Heated Steering wheels are a option on the Limited Model and Standard on the Touring Model.

      Officially they don't say but I've heard several theories including "Revolution" (a Subaru marketing term), and "Riter" (Japanese transliteration of liter). Also some silly ones like "Reliable" lol

    I've been inside a couple of these including the early 10s and they all felt surprisingly nice and roomy inside. One thing that scares me is Subaru reliability

    my 2013 outback 3.6r served my well. FUCK A CVT. after 2015 outbacks were shit.

    Why don’t you have "Si" mode? It puts the car in to "normal" "normal sport" and "full sports" mode.
    It’s like night and day for acceleration and throttle response ….it’s a shame, you should have gotten the better model. You sound like you are doing a "review" when you haven’t done your homework on the subject. It’s a 3 out of 10 for your review from me.
