MOODLE Admin Hint #7 AUTOMATED BACKUPS - Ricoshae

You won’t need automated backups now but I guarantee when you least expect it, someone will accidentally delete a course that they shouldn’t have deleted and you will be desperate to find a way to get it back.
Moodle has a built in system to backup your courses. MAKE SURE YOU HAVE PLENTY OF SPACE ON YOUR SERVER.
Go to: Site administration - Courses - Backups - Automated backup setup
Look through the settings, check that you have enough space to run the backups then run them at least once a week and keep at least 2 copies of each course.

Thank you very much for the video! I'm struggling since quite a while with the automatic backup, it just wont't create them. I wonder if it has something to do with the automatic backup task. Over there, there is again a function for scheduling. Do I maybe have to put it together somehow? And can I maybe just leave the time for the automatic backup empty and the backup will start automatically according to the task schedule if I switch the automatic backup on enabled?

It doesn't work this simply. You need to set up corn job for automated backup which you did not explain. Where is course file area. How to set up server space for course back up.

Hi Emanuel, Not that I know of but if you are adventurous there is a partial solution using a server script. moodle.org/mod/forum/discuss.php?d=402828#p1634162
