  • **INGREDIENTS**
Note: most items can be found at a hardware or craft store.
Interior sealant: amzn.to/3mSTuLL (CORRECTION: IN THE VIDEO I RECOMMEND MINWAX, however upon further research it turns out RUTLANDS is the safest sealant!!!)
Exterior sealant: amzn.to/3dTvt2X (find at a hardware store)
    Mold: amzn.to/3dQW2pf
Acrylic Paint: amzn.to/39ZmTOP (any water based non-toxic acrylic paint is fine)
    Powder tempera: amzn.to/3fX1euH
    Grey matter: concreteconcrete.com/collecti...
Best Base pigments for vibrant colors: concreteconcrete.com/collecti...
Cement all: amzn.to/3d0DQud (Find it at Home Depot or Lowe’s)
Plaster of Paris: amzn.to/39Yoa8K (Find it at Home Depot or Lowe’s)
    Imitation gold: amzn.to/3fZeKxU
    **Q & A**
Q: WHATS THE DIFFERENCE BETWEEN CONCRETE AND CEMENT?
A: Cement is a byproduct of concrete. Concrete is cheaper but requires extra work. You will need to remove the rocks from the concrete before using. Cement is ready to go, but more expensive. Cement also dries faster than concrete.
    Q: CAN I USE MICA?
A: Yes! However it will not give you vibrant colors.
Q: HOW CAN I GET MY VESSEL SUPER WHITE?
A: Using a specialized pottery base is the best way to get a white vessel, however it is costly. It is cheaper to use the white powder from concreteconcrete.com - If you are interested in the specialized white plaster base, you can find it here: amzn.to/31Yk8Ji
Q: Is concrete better than cement? What about grey matter?
A: Grey matter is easier to use and has less of a chance of getting air pockets or bubbles, and it’s much stronger than concrete or cement (1000x!) but it is more expensive. I personally prefer cement over concrete. If cost isn’t an issue, I would use grey matter.
Q: HOW MUCH DOES YOUR VESSEL WEIGH?
A: 3 lbs for just the vessel, not including wax, oil or wick.
Q: WHAT ARE THE BEST TYPE OF MOLDS?
A: Thick ones! It’s important to pick a mold with thicker walls. If you are using thin resin molds, you may run into the issue of your vessel over heating once the candle is burning. The thicker the candle vessel wall, the better! Try to find molds that have a case around them as well, so the mold retains its shape better. Resin molds are difficult to demold, so I prefer molds with a softer silicone.
    INSTRUCTIONS
Add 1 tablespoon of plaster of Paris to 1 solo cup filled at 75% capacity with cement or concrete. Add color if desired. Add water gradually and slowly and stir mixture until it reaches a pancake batter consistency. Pour into mold and follow up with swirling water based acrylic paint if desired. Demold in 1-4 hours of using cement all + plaster of Paris. Sand bottom of vessel to remove any rough edges. Seal interior with water based polycrylic sealant (two coats). If desired, seal outside of vessel with a sealer. Let rest for 24 hours before pouring a candle inside the vessel.

Just a word of warning. I used this technique and it turned out beautiful, but during my test burn, the vessel cracked in two placed where there was paint in the mixture. I think the paint weakens the concrete too much to be safe. I won’t be selling these as candle containers, but may sell them as planters.

You may not realize this but when you ask about sealers on voice to text it will just skip to the part of the video suggesting this brand! At least that's what it did to me...I was in a pinch and at the hardware store and had to get something quickly. I didn't have time to scroll through comments. I just happened to come back to this video and saw the update on the Rutland interior sealer. I haven't poured my wax yet...is there anything I can do to salvage my vessels? What happens if I do pour wax??? PLEASE HELP! I have a deadline for an event. May I respectfully suggest you take down this video and post an updated one?
