- **INGREDIENTS**
Note: most items can be found at a hardware or craft store.
Interior sealant: amzn.to/3mSTuLL (CORRECTION: IN THE VIDEO I RECOMMEND MINWAX, however upon further research it turns out RUTLANDS is the safest sealant!!!)
Exterior sealant: amzn.to/3dTvt2X (find at a hardware store)
Mold: amzn.to/3dQW2pf
Acrylic Paint: amzn.to/39ZmTOP (any water based non-toxic acrylic paint is fine)
Powder tempera: amzn.to/3fX1euH
Grey matter: concreteconcrete.com/collecti...
Best Base pigments for vibrant colors: concreteconcrete.com/collecti...
Cement all: amzn.to/3d0DQud (Find it at Home Depot or Lowe’s)
Plaster of Paris: amzn.to/39Yoa8K (Find it at Home Depot or Lowe’s)
Imitation gold: amzn.to/3fZeKxU
**Q & A**
Q: WHATS THE DIFFERENCE BETWEEN CONCRETE AND CEMENT?
A: Cement is a byproduct of concrete. Concrete is cheaper but requires extra work. You will need to remove the rocks from the concrete before using. Cement is ready to go, but more expensive. Cement also dries faster than concrete.
Q: CAN I USE MICA?
A: Yes! However it will not give you vibrant colors.
Q: HOW CAN I GET MY VESSEL SUPER WHITE?
A: Using a specialized pottery base is the best way to get a white vessel, however it is costly. It is cheaper to use the white powder from concreteconcrete.com - If you are interested in the specialized white plaster base, you can find it here: amzn.to/31Yk8Ji
Q: Is concrete better than cement? What about grey matter?
A: Grey matter is easier to use and has less of a chance of getting air pockets or bubbles, and it’s much stronger than concrete or cement (1000x!) but it is more expensive. I personally prefer cement over concrete. If cost isn’t an issue, I would use grey matter.
Q: HOW MUCH DOES YOUR VESSEL WEIGH?
A: 3 lbs for just the vessel, not including wax, oil or wick.
Q: WHAT ARE THE BEST TYPE OF MOLDS?
A: Thick ones! It’s important to pick a mold with thicker walls. If you are using thin resin molds, you may run into the issue of your vessel over heating once the candle is burning. The thicker the candle vessel wall, the better! Try to find molds that have a case around them as well, so the mold retains its shape better. Resin molds are difficult to demold, so I prefer molds with a softer silicone.
INSTRUCTIONS
Add 1 tablespoon of plaster of Paris to 1 solo cup filled at 75% capacity with cement or concrete. Add color if desired. Add water gradually and slowly and stir mixture until it reaches a pancake batter consistency. Pour into mold and follow up with swirling water based acrylic paint if desired. Demold in 1-4 hours of using cement all + plaster of Paris. Sand bottom of vessel to remove any rough edges. Seal interior with water based polycrylic sealant (two coats). If desired, seal outside of vessel with a sealer. Let rest for 24 hours before pouring a candle inside the vessel.

UPDATE & CORRECTION!!! THE BEST AND SAFEST SEALER TO USE FOR INTERIOR SEALING IS RUTLANDS - You can find it here amzn.to/3mSTuLL
Hiya, why have you changed to this sealer?
Is the polycrylic bad?
@@Alwyzrite28 I called the company because i was looking for a sealer myself, they said it breaks down near heat and is not safe around flames
@@gabrielletuck9896 thank you for getting back to me. I appreciate it!
This vessel is beautiful. I have a “pro-tip”. Get a an electric massager and run it over the mold to shake out bubbles. It moves faster than your hands.
I’ve been meaning to get one!! I wasn’t sure if it would work lol thank you ♥️♥️
I have another pro tip, use more water. Acrylic paint absorbs water, less water = more air bubbles.
Electric massager 🤔🤣 🍆
Jessica, you never cease to amaze me! So creative.
Haha I try! ♥️ TY
Just a word of warning. I used this technique and it turned out beautiful, but during my test burn, the vessel cracked in two placed where there was paint in the mixture. I think the paint weakens the concrete too much to be safe. I won’t be selling these as candle containers, but may sell them as planters.
Thank you!!
Probably because it wasn’t cured so the water evaporates
@@HerbariumBlends it cured for a month
This is amazing and thank you stating the products you use! Especially what you use to make it super white. 👌👌 Thanks again.
No problem! I’ve tried everything in the world to make the vessel white, the only thing that works is this pigment from concreteconcrete with plaster of Paris haha. Happy making ♥️
Thank you for all the tips. Looks amazing
Thank you so much. I had no idea what sealant to use!
I make concrete planters and also use cement all. I’m glad I found your video because i have been wanting a white base so i just ordered some from concrete concrete. 😍
Do you seal your planters? If yes, what product do you use? Thanks!!!
Her voice is officially my favorite.
Very creative!! Neat idea for outside patio....
Oooo that turned out amazing!
Cat cameo at 5:06
Very informative! Thank you!
I absolutely LOVE your videos! Have you experienced HT issues with your concrete vessels?
Greatness, per usual!
Ty 😍
Great intro and tricks..thanks for sharing 👏
Love your work.subscribed
So beautiful. I am addicted to your channel. I get so excited every time a new video comes out. You are such an inspiration! I also happy/ sad that you ran out of spray bottles before I could order gold and black bottles. When will you get more?
Oh nooo! I’ll be getting them in 3-4 weeks from now ♥️ I’ll be making an announcement on my IG and sending out newsletters with the exact date and time
Jessica love it! Beautiful!
Thanks hun!
Wow! Love this ♥️👌🏼
Oh yay 😍
When you burn a candle in cement or plaster container, how does the cement or plaster behave?
Does the wax go through on surface after you use the sealer?
Please answer
Kind regards,
Mina
I make concrete vessels for my candles too! Mine are gray and gold but I love the idea of experimenting with more colors! Great video!
Hi there! May I ask what sealer you use? I was ready to use what she did but now seen the correction in comments and Im not sure anymore..
@@verjeenkalajian1135 I use the eco procote acri-soy penetrating sealer in matte sheen. I buy the gallon on Amazon
@@herfinancialbff3696 thank you so much for responding!
I need to candlemaking and I’m in the process of just getting some tools vessels just getting everything wax and I do wanna make cement vessels but I noticed that you added to gold and I didn’t see the gold on there which is the gold is pretty thank you for sharing this video it help us beginners out
BEAUTIFUL
Amazing .....
Any idea how to create that glazing effect or coat to give ceramic effect
I am curious why you don't use the polycrylic on the outside to seal as well?
So cute! I love this D.I.Y.!
Beautiful VDO.
Have you found that you need to increase your wooden wick size in a concrete vessel the same width as say the Aura vessel? Just starting to make my own concrete jars and curious if it will require larger wicks. Obviously I will be wick testing, but just curious. Thanks for your videos. Your studio and whole vibe is beautiful! And your voice! ASMR! ;-)
Great video. Ty!
Beautiful!
TY!
Thanks for this video, I am looking forward to making these vessels. Question, what wicking do you suggest, wick size, how many, etc. TIA
I haven’t wicked these yet, these were a new mold I bought. Sorry! I would start off with double wick but no more than 3 wicks
I love this and the cement all works so much better than what I originally got by error. Now I just need to get sealant. Would you suggest that is best for candles?
Rutlands
That’s is beautiful ! Where do u get the mold ?
Can I just use regular cement pigment? I bought some charcoal colored and terracotta colored Quikrete pigment for cement.
Can you tell or show me how to add the holes that pop out after using the as candles? thanks
You are so talented Jessica. You are an inspiration. I would love to move to Florida and be your neighbor 🤣. Unfortunately my husband doesn't want to leave NY.
Hahah why not!? NY is so cold and gloomy 😅😭

Thank you so much for such a helpful and informative video!
Hi! What are your thoughts about concrete sealer? I make concrete trays and im thinking of using. A concrete sealer. Whats a good one you can recommend?
Totally adored this video. I got a question. How durable is the acrilic in the mix after it dries?
From my tests, the paint weakened the concrete too much. Mine cracked during my test burn.
Should we adding beton mix or sands to make jar to he strong ? , im from indonesia thanks
Will any cement do as we don’t have that one here in the uk I’d be thankful if you could help me out thanks
Have you had any efflorescence issues with concrete?
What’s that can off spray you use to seal the colour thanks
How long did you allow the vessel to dry before painting on thr acrylic sealant?
Thanks so much!
Waiting for this answer too
Hi love it! Where can I purchase the silicon mold from ? Do you do world wide shipping ?
Amazon
Nice
I made several vessels. I made my candles and about a month later my vessel cracked.. Any tips to prevent cracked concrete vessel?
Try to use alpha gypsum instead of plaster of paris. Plaster of paris needs so much water but alpha gypsum not. And of course alpha gypsum is really strong like a rock. I'm sure will create better result for your work.
do you think the coloration white pigment from amazon would also dye the cementall enough?
to have it as a base color
Hermoso
Where can I buy cement all.
🔥
do you have to do the inside sealing or can you just pour the candle wax without it ?
You need to seal it, otherwise the wax will leak through the concrete since it’s porous
This is beautiful but i wish the gold would've shown more
Are these heavy?
What size wick did you end up using?
I haven’t wicked these yet, they were new molds
How long did you wait to seal after taking the piece out of the mold?
You can seal it 30 minutes or wait 24 hours!!! won´t change anything
@@lagomco9539 thank you!
cement is not a bi product of concrete it is an essential ingrediant in the making of concrete it is the glue that creates the final product, without cement sand and gravel and water is just a big dirty puddle
❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️
Can someone please translate what does 75% capacity on a solo cup mean as far as oz? How many oz of the cementall is needed in each cup? I know that the plaster of Paris is 1tbs and the concrete concrete is 1/2, but I’m so lost as a beginner here someone please help me lol
Have you experimented with the Rutlands sealer? I have been using it to seal my cement candle vessels but am still trying to get proper measurements down. You mix yours 1:4 with water right? (1:Rutlands, 4:Water). How many coats do you usually do?
Did you get the proper mix ratio for sealant?
Why would you need to seal the inside if the wax gonna go in there?
Concrete is porous…the melted wax could seep through some if not sealed.
Ugh! I bought and used the mini wax to seal my interiors of all my vessels! Then I see this comment! I wanna cry! Can I ask what happened when you used wax in the vessels? Did it leak through? You may not realize this but when you ask about sealers on voice to text it will just skip to the part of the video suggesting this brand! At least that's what it did to me...I was in a pinch and at the hardware store and had to get something quickly. I didn't have time to scroll through comments. I just happened to come back to this video and saw the update on the Rutland interior sealer. I haven't poured my wax yet...is there anything I can do to salvage my vessels? What happens if I do pour wax??? PLEASE HELP! I have a deadline for an event. May I respectfully suggest you take down this video and post an updated one? I don't want this to happen to anyone else...not all of us have time to browse through the descriptions and comments. Thank you for any help or advice you can give!
It only takes 3 hours to demold cement all vessels, not 12 🙄 If you run a knife down the sides & work it around a bit you won’t have any holes or bubbles.

Horrible voice mic. Can't understand it.
