As an Uruguayan living in Colonia del Sacramento, I must say that your review of Uruguay is both thorough and quite accurate, indeed. Good job and thanks!
Hi, nice to fine someone from Uruguay..do you know where can i do the hot air balloon tours. I have been looking everywhere and cant seem to fine it.. thanks
@@gabychacon3236 it's probably super late, but I think there's a tour in Punta del Este, might be others though
Thank you so much for this guide! My husband and I are planning a trip around South America, and we've heard great things about Uruguay. Your tips are very helpful, and it sounds like a wonderful country to visit!
I'm glad we could help!
There's a lot of very poor travel videos on youtube. Wolters World isn't one of them. You can tell he knows his stuff and is a pleasure to watch. I'm planning a trip to Uruguay and this has been a good reinforcement of stuff I'd already picked up and a great guide to stuff I hadn't. Tannat being one! :)
I want to visit there so badly. Looks amazing and everyone says how wonderful the people are.
We can't live without mate 😂😂 Thanks for making this video. Greetings from 🇺🇾
Curiosamente no mencionó nada del mate... 😳

Are curling irons very expensive? I thought to buy one since I’ll be returning.
@@bonniem485 the prices oscilate between $10 and all the way up to $100 (US dollars). Everything above $100 is proffesional grade stuff.
I've got a pretty good one for 50 bucks and it's an absolute champ.
Kokomo, what is the best way to get to know the locals?. I speak intermediate level Spanish. Been trying to learn some of the street language too.
I have never considered visiting Uruguay before, but after your video it's on my bucket list
I hope you have a great time when u come 😁
Uruguay is a great country to visit. I lived and vacationed in Uruguay since I was a teenage. Definitely the best time to visit Uruguay is during the summer, it gets really hot like if you were in South Florida. Try to catch a soccer game while in Uruguay, Estadio Centenario is a stadium where many big matches (Peñarol, Nacional, or the Uruguayan National Team) play their games. It is also where the first World Cup Final was played in 1930! Pretty cool fact! Probably the best way to get there from the states is flying into Miami and taking American Airlines nonstop to Montevideo.
You have all the reason, the best time to visit is during summer and Nacional it’s the best team in Uruguay

Greetings from Montevideo :)
Perfect timing, I was just starting to look into Uruguay the past week!
I hope you have a great time here in Uruguay :D
I made a friend in Uruguay and she had friends who owned several cabañas in Punta del Diablo. Since it was winter and they had no renters, they allowed us to stay in one of the cabañas for two nights free. Even in the winter it was a very nice place to stay and I got to make more friends while there.
You have to visit Punta del Diablo in the summer, it's really the coolest place ever.
Just booked for Easter Weekend (also my birthday weekend)!! I am SO excited!! Thank you for your videos, love them!
Thank you so much for a very thorough and useful review. It shows you have a first-hand knowledge of the area.
Thank you for information please it is safe and easy to find job, i am from Canada 🤲🍊🍋🇨🇦🇨🇦
Our happiest moments as travellers always seem to come when we stumble upon one video like yours.....
Thank you so much for sharing with us!!!!!!
Algeria 🇩🇿 always stands with Uruguay 🇺🇾 United and amicably
I am from Tamil Nadu in India is excited to see the beautiful buildings and beaches alongside to south Atlantic Ocean.Ton of Thanks.
Very good tips video! The real Uruguayan treasure is its people. You hit the nail on the head, things are not done in a rush here, and when they are it's probably to rush home or to see your friends, lol. But you'll make lifelong Uruguayan friends, and should you ever need help or information, just ask anybody on the street and they will try their best to assist you.
Good job Wolters!!
It looks like place to be
I am packing
Love it
You are always on point
👍👍👍
As usual, super helpful
I want to go! Seems like the most chill of the South American countries
Great video Mark..
Are you come to Chile some day? This long country has everything, montains, valleys, sea and beaches, metropolis, volcanoes, glaciers, cold rainforest and the atacama desert🇨🇱
Great video anyway!
I visited Chile in 2008. I have friends there 🙂
I have heard the safety is an issue there. Especially in the big city of Santiago.
@Unknown Infinium
Chile ranks way safer than states like California and Texas alone, so you should be fine, especially on chile's rural/nature sides and smaller towns where petty crimes are very rare or non-existent.
The major countries you can go to Latin America in my experience and knowledge are uruguay, chile, Argentina, El Salvador (currently), and maybe Costa Rica. These Latin America countries aren't nearly as dangerous as Mexico, Colombia, Brazil, dominican Republic,Venezuela, etc... (basically avoid or extreme precautions).
I am uruguayan its so goood to live there
Wow need to visit Uruguay one day!
I just left Ireland but now I want to see Uruguay!!!
Thank you for information 🤲🍊🍋🇨🇦
Well now I know where Uruguay is. Among other tidbits of great information. 👍happy Easter mr.Wolters, hope you and yours have a great one!
Hola por favor cerveza 🍺!! I’m ready to go 😂
thanks Mark!! great stuff!! I hope to visit this country soon, in my South American tour!! I hope soo much to go south!
Malbec is everywhere. I buy it at Aldi, Walmart, and Basha's in Phoenix. If you look for it you'll find it.
As an Belgian i love Uruguay
Most countries speak English to some extent, but it is always good to know the language.
The best chivito is sold at El Tinkal in Montevideo
Tannat is widely planted in Madiran France. Great video as always!
We have a lot of european roots
Excellent, interesting and informative video. ¡Gracias! When I went to Uruguay, I used Bradt Travel Guide. In a short time, you provided great insight into how to appreciate Uruguay. Atlantida and Piriapolis are budget friendly alternatives to Punta del Este. The Hotel Argentino in Piriapolis is interesting to visit, especially if you like to see hotels from another era. Cheers 🍷
Tannat wines available in the USA. Specially in Big box liq stores. I get it all the time. :)
Very good video Wolter 👍
You can use your card to get in an atm, like your visa card, etc. There are free wifi parks in Uy. We have Tannat and its blends in the Northeast.
Nice video!
I visited he first time in summer 1975. The weather and the beach in Montevideo were so good just like South Bay area of LA, a beautiful blue sky and the very pretty beach. It was told that rich Americans came to buy T-Ford at that time. This video was taken during their winter season?
Mark thank you for the information. You are right not much is there about Uruguay.
I'd like to ask about topics not touched:
- Cost of living: What is the average Cost of living for a single guy?
- Healthcare: What's your take on the healthcare there?
sounds like you thought of everything; very informative!
Been there and it is all how you described it awesome 👌 and love how you keep things real enjoy your journeys with your family 👪 ❤ BLESSINGS.

Really great video good information. How about airplane rental, you mentioned car rental.
I love your channel. I have a question for you since you're such an accomplished traveler and I respect your opinion. I'm American, and my husband is Colombian. My 180 days ran out and I'm now back home. My question is where would you suggest my husband and I can travel to together, so we can stay together while waiting for his spousal visa to be approved for America. We don't want to stay in Colombia, it's become way to dangerous. We were thinking of Mexico, but I don't know if things will change with the country having spikes in covid. We just want to be somewhere affordable and a little safer than Colombia. I have always been afraid of travel restrictions changing too, because my husband I both do not want anything to do with the vaccine. At worse we'd rather be stranded together instead of stranded apart, so we need to pick some place to go to soon. Where would you suggest? I love the prices in Thailand, but the tickets are very expensive! Thank you :)
Can you talk s bit about flights all the way to Montevideo from the US and Canada.?
montevideo is one of the most safest cities in uruguay
Hi super class videos 👍
খুব সুন্দর
The photograph that you put on punta del este it isn't of there!! You should come here is ssoooooo beautiful.. I think that Montevideo(the capital) is big but is super stressing because of the population
Looks cold there
Que rico!!!!
Thank you
Mark, when are you coming to Colombia?
Happy and healthy Easter!
Any COVID restrictions?
Does anyone have any insight on traveling to this country from the United States during the covid pandemic, it is August of 2021
I'l have to watch later, but "Happy Easter!"🌺💚
First time I've heard of this country.
A Steak Sandwich would be amazing!
In less off 3 days you will have your residence
How do you order a steak juicy or rare instead of a punto in Spanish in Uruguay?
… And Marijuana is completely legal for medical and recreational use.
my family is thinking about moving here
I want Chivito
0:05 lol it says Falkland Islands (UK) and the capital Buenos Aires, it got it all wrong 😂
I want to know about living costs on the US dollar. I saw a video recently about rental aparments. The units were not rented with common appliances such as a refrigerator. I took that example to be the general case. One must buy large, not portable appliances to live in a rented apartment in Montevideo. These appliances are imported from foreign manufacturers - not made in Ura. That means import duties in the price tag, installation charges, and who knows what else. Do you rent on a year's lease or month to month? I don't know. What do you do with your little toy when you want to leave? You have then to sell it. That may not be easy. How does one inform himself about such routine matters in Uruguay when he is not in Uruguay? Are there real estate agents one can consult who speak English?
Uruguay looks like Spain II
It really does, doesn't it? We used to be a colony of the Spanish crown back in the 1800s, wich is historicaly not that long ago. Because of this, there's still a lot of old spanish-looking buildings left.
Thanks ☺️🇺🇾
well no and yes ...there is more italian descendants than spaniards and thats why the food is mainly italian adapted ...they use the italian way to speak with hands and the way construct the phrase sometimes sounds like a translation from italian...i dont know if you are spaniard but dont get offended cause is a reality down there and they love spain too...the thing is 40% of uruguayans have at least 1 italian grandfather
@@kokorochacarero8003 Uruguay was colonized by the Spanish since the 1500s
@@luiscardozo0000 haha no the biggest ancestry in Uruguay is Spanish not Italian same for Argentina it's Spanish top 20 most common surnames in Argentina are of Spanish origin
Would you ever consider living in uruguay
Sadly taxis here in Uruguay try to take you the longest way to charge you more, even to us locals when we aren't from Montevideo, so I'd say your best option is Uber, sadly 😒
I like my steak well done, that won't be a problem for me
Do you lock your luggage with a lock when traveling outside the USA?
You should visit Bolivia!
The correct pronunciation is "Ooroogwy" not "Yurugway".....
why do you play years old videos like they are new?
This man looks like Alex Jones brother perhaps
In Germany not all the fancy restaurants have WiFi .
Is there anything to see?
Do they speak English language
Do you ever breathe too ? LOL
Great to see you and the family traveling again. We can't let these draconian governments treat us like animals and slaves because of a virus with a 99.8% recovery rate
You are a nabo. Uruguay is over 96% vaccinated!!
DAMN STRAIGHT
Visited 2018 to check out the progressive politics, alternative energy, etc. The Lonely Planet book for Argentina has a Uruguay section. There is no "spectacular" scenery but the beaches are good. Stayed in Punta del Diablo. Modest, educated folks and decent small cities. Some of the "paved" roads off the main highways have been beaten up by logging trucks. Eucalyptus. We rented a car.
You indicated we should tip the baggage handler a dollar...are you meaning a US $ or a Uruguayan $ ???
You can use Uruguayan but what I did was i just smacked the waiter and made him bleed. He cried. It was awesome!
He means one US dollar (U$S)
The local currency is called Peso ($)
If you want to tip the baggage guy, I'd advise anything between $20 and $50 (pesos) depending on how you liked the service. It would be pretty fun to watch his reaction if you hand him a single $1 (one peso) coin though hahaha
Okey I got it they are slow with the food shoosh. You lost me at, “you know, you can learn a little Spanish like HOla and Cerveza and Yada yada ayayay!
Beggars are everywhere and ask money else they attack

Amazing video! I love the information just like the last one. Regards from Uruguay.
PD: Don't drink tap water tho. You can but is honestly not that good, you will notice the difference once you try.
