On an alternate Earth, where Mark joins Nolan in devastating the planet, a man uses his innate ability to create dimensional portals to escape. One month after Nolan's departure, Mark continues to struggle with his father's betrayal while performing his duties as Invincible. Cecil appoints the revived Immortal as leader of the Guardians of the Globe, believing the team lacks coordination.
The Mauler Twins escape prison through the portals, aided by a man named Angstrom Levy. Collecting various alternate versions of himself from countless dimensions, Angstrom enlists the twins' help in building a device to harness their memories and transfer them into himself, planning to use the gained knowledge to advance Earth's technology and saved other planets.
Cecil sends Mark to stop the Mauler Twins, who are in the process of transferring the memories into Angstrom. Despite his pleas to stop, Mark attacks the twins, forcing Angstrom to send alternate versions of the Mauler Twins to stop him. They overwhelm and almost kill Mark against Angstrom's wishes, forcing him to prematurely stops the transfer. The device is destroyed, killing his alternate selves, all but the original Mauler Twin, and horrifically mutating his body. Blaming Mark for his grotesque appearance, Angstrom swears vengeance and escapes.
