  • I've been watching a few different scamming groups running the 'Amazon' refund scam and I've been disrupting their scams.
You'll see how they run the scam and how best to defect it. You'll also hear both the scammer and the victims - something I've not always been able to show in the videos.
I hope that the authorities on Kolkata can act on the information I've passed to them.

@Doom Slayer wait, which specific Bible are you referring to? I'm assuming English is your primary language?
I'm asking as interested in the routes of translation (Hebrew, Aramaic, Greek, Latin etc.) and if you cross reference with modern direct translations.
I'm a bit skeptical of quotations; especially in English. Jesus shouldn't contradict himself. I'm concerned that some routes of translation lead to misinterpretation, and misunderstanding and (sadly) manipulation.
For much of history the bible texts were exclusively reserved for the Church and aristocracy. Only in modern times has the standard English translation been made available to common folk.
In your bible study do you use parallel/ interlinear comparison between the languages? I must admit I've only been able to understand the English versions, but when speaking with a Jewish friend about the texts I realised the English translation missed a great deal of the Hebrew message.
I have only read around 15 of the available English complete bibles, and they vary so greatly. I always try to remember that Jesus didn't speak English. That means any English quotations attributed to him are many levels of interpretation away from His meaning. The fact that complete NT bibles are too numerous for one individual to ever read makes me certain that there are mistakes. That one modern practicing Christian can call another modem practicing Christian "wrong" or "evil" because of the bible they were exposed to is quite terrifying. That any modern Christian can assume certainty about what Jesus meant is confounding. I think life is about learning, and a Christian should be dedicating their life to learning

Jim, I truly hope you see this.
    I'm in tears.
My grandparents lost their entire retirement fund from a scam like this. They've lost their home, their car.. They have nothing.
At the end of every month, we give them some money to survive.
And at the end of every month I have to watch my proud grandfather break down in tears for having to accept charity from his children.
    My proud, strong grandfather.
The best man I've ever known sits crying in front of me every month.
My beautiful grandmother walks door to door with a basket selling baked goods for money.
My Saint of a grandmother looks us, her children, in the eyes asking if we want to buy fresh bread and "vetkoek" or "koeksusters" from her.
The pain from seeing this feels like a cancer spreading through my body.
They are proud people, but have been forced to move in with family because they're basically homeless.
    They didn't know any better.
    Edit:
I need to add that my intention with this is not to get Jim to do anything.
I don't want Jim to do anything about it, I just wanted to share my story with him.

      Thanks for the support, guys!
It's extremely difficult to come to terms with the fact that someone who consumes your life never thinks of you.
These people will forever be a massive part of my grandparent's life.
They will never escape the thought of them.
Every time they take out money to pay for something, every time they see something they like in a shop but can't have.
Every time they stand by their trolley, in an empty isle where others won't see you, adding everything up to check what they have to put back before they go to the till.
Every time they will think of them.
But, my grandparents will never cross their mind.
They will never think of them.
They don't feel malice towards them, they don't feel enjoyment from what's happening to them, they don't feel remorse or joy or guilt.
My grandparents don't exist to them.
      They never will.
You want to believe that you, and your pain, is important.

I work at a grocery store which offers Western Union services and I see a lot of scams coming in, luckily we are allowed to pry when we think someone may be being scammed. A few months ago I had an elderly lady come in and she apparently had to send money to some guy in the Philippines for a funeral on her daughter's behalf. I pressed her about it and she said she didn't know the guy personally, but that her daughter was good friends with him. She went on to say that her daughter studied abroad in Asia, and when I asked her where she studied she said South Korea! I had a feeling she was being scammed but that pretty much settled it. I explained to her that she was probably being scammed, and she said how she got a text from her daughter from a number that wasn't hers but the person said it was the daughter's "new number" It's so scary how these people are so good at manipulating people.

On a landline, I just pick up the phone and say nothing. A lot of the dialers wait for a response before they even try to connect you to a worker. Just pick up and listen for a few seconds. If you hear a transfer cue (that poit sound), a prerecorded voice/TTS, or if there are no signs of human life, just hang up. As far as I'm concerned, there's no point distinguishing the scammers from what is considered legitimate telemarketing. It's all a bunch of automated dishonesty at this point. Landline telephones are no longer practically useful for inbound calls.
