  • Hello and Welcome to today’s episode of Beyond The Pedal. This episode marks my first year in CZcams and what better way to celebrate than getting behind the wheel of one of the most iconic sports cars out there. Yes, the 2006 Aston Martin V8 Vantage. That’s right, in todays episode I get to drive an Aston Martin V8 Vantage for the very first time. To be able to drive one of these incredible super cars is the reason I began this journey. Driving this 2006 Aston Matin V8 Vantage was everything I hoped it would be and so much more!
    I want to thank George from DH9 Media for letting me have this opportunity and experience and letting me get behind the wheel of his beloved 2006 Aston Martin V8 Vantage! I hope you enjoy the episode.

    I’ve had my 2006 V8 Vantage for a couple of years now. Your video sums up everything I love about this car. Handling, power, beauty, that awesome sound and comfort. Never get tired of the looks you get and the pride I have when cruising around. 😎

    I like this natural type of presenting. Not overly edited (I do know it takes time all the same to produce) What is really good is how "real world" this is...A normal bloke who goes out with a guy's pride and joy. Not some auto journalist who has driven the car from a fleet of cars at a press conference! Well done mate...and just to see your face when you got offered the drive...reminds me of when my friend said I could drive his Aston Vanquish S (1st version)...a time to remember...

    I have a very late 4.3 registered in 2009. They are a very special experience however, I would not class them in the supercar bracket despite many comments from others classing them as a supercar. Had mine for 3 years and it's been epic to own and it's now up for sale.
    The reverse issue is due to odd gearing and is often the reason the standard single plate clutch wears out. The fix is a twin plate unit with lighter flywheel that really wakes the car up, has a lighter pedal feel and costs the same as the stock unit.

    What an incredible generous and lovely man! I am lucky enough to own a similar vintage of Porsche (only the baby Boxster S 987) but these Astons are desperately beautiful and that V8 noise is most definitely a match for the flat 6 noise.
    I'm not convinced the Aston is as good a 'sports car' when driven hard as the Porsche equivalents but in every other way it is utterly beautiful.

      George is a great guy, and it was incredible to experience his car.
      I've heard great things about the Boxster, many who would argue it's one of the best pou d for pound affordable sports cars on the market.

    I really don't see why people think the 911 is the sensible option (unless sensible means that they're everywhere and no one notices them). Their problems are well known (and expensive to fix). A work colleague has one, and jokes that every time it goes into a garage, it costs £2000 (almost regardless of the problem). He has to joke about it otherwise he'd probably cry. The V8 Vantage was made during Ford's ownership of Aston Martin and benefited from their quality control experience. As a result, it was probably the first truly reliable Aston, and aside from clutch wear is generally regarded as pretty much bulletproof. I will shortly be buying something in this class. I can afford either car, but I'll be buying a Vantage.

    • @kimaniharris7922
      @kimaniharris7922 Před rokem

      I don know what kind of 911 your colleague has, but the 911 is known to be pretty reliable all the way around, minus the 996/997 IMS issue. IIRC the v8 vantage has a pretty expensive clutch replacement cost? I also remember someone saying they're a PITA to work on.

    • @paulshepherd8295
      @paulshepherd8295 Před rokem

      @@kimaniharris7922 It's a 996. And in addition to the IMS issue, a lot of 911s seem to have problems with bore scoring, which is very expensive to fix. And yes, Vantage clutch replacement is expensive, but if you get a twin plate clutch fitted you won't need to do it so often.

      Buy mine,I have a beauty 2006 manual, silver stunning, out of the box, inside absolutely smells like new with the leather, it’s only done 52,000 miles, I don’t ever use it, it’s stuck in a garage not being used! But I bought it to look at, crazy ? Yep but it’s the sexiest car I have ever owned, I have had Ferraris, Porsche, Bentley etc, this turns heads far more p, well as much as my Ferrari did

    Great cars, but quirky for sure! I have a MY2016 which is just beautiful with the haptic feedback dash from the Vanquish. Biggest issue is manoeuvring at slow speed because the steering is really heavy and the bonnet goes on forever! Whoever geared reverse needs flogging as well - it's like reversing in second gear. Wouldn't part with it though..... that sound! Wow.

    Credit to the owner, what a great down to earth humble guy. I clocked the Aston Martin top and thought here we go, self centred car bore (so many are) and was pleasantly surprised. Wrong of me to judge and fair play to him!

    I just drove the 4.7L with the flappy paddles and it is a very sexy car, sounds sublime when you rev it up, changes direction well, and has good initial braking bite, but feels significantly slower in acceleration compared to my 997. I do have a manual though and the Aston’s paddle shifting transmission really lags compared to a Porsche PDK. The Aston is more of a boulevard cruiser but does feel like it’s an occasion when you drive it. Very nice car, especially for the money they are selling for now. Heck of a lot of car for the money and very special! I may need to find myself a manual version!

    • @Zettinger
      @Zettinger Před rokem

      The 4.7l was broken or your 997 is a turbo is the only way this can be true. I own two 997 (S and build 4.0l by Albert Motorsport, both mans trans) and two Vantage (roadster Sport Shit and Coupe Mans trans. both 4.7l sport and power pack) and none of my Porsche's can pull as the 4.7l's Aston's. Also me in the Aston coupe is a faster package than me in my 997 c2s on the track.

    • @carreralicious
      @carreralicious Před rokem +1

      @@Zettinger Then the 2011 cabrio Vantage I drove with the paddles must’ve had some issues cause it definitely felt slower than my 997S manual. I do not have the turbo. The Vantage in auto mode was really lethargic. So different from a double clutch PDK transmission although I still prefer the manual. Don’t get me wrong…I liked the Vantage a lot. It just didn’t feel to me like performance wise it was more nimble or as easy to toss around as my 997 but it felt more special and sounded way better.

    • @Zettinger
      @Zettinger Před rokem

      @@carreralicious Oh yes, the Sport Shit is terrible. IMO the worst transmission ever in a sports car. My roadster has a new VAP clutch and flywheel what should be an improvement but it shifts like a kid learning to work a clutch. I guess the toss around factor comes what you are used to drive to feel more comfortable, I swap the cars on daily basis between the brands.The 997 sounds better? You lost me there.

    • @carreralicious
      @carreralicious Před rokem +1

      @@Zettinger No way! The Aston sounds nicer than the 997 for sure. I love the sound of the engine in the Vantage. Wish my car had that rumbling V8 sound. Flat 6 is just ok in comparison.
