  • Owners Perspective of the Aston Martin V8 Vantage.
    11/6/2022
The Aston Martin Vantage first hit my radar shortly after it’s release in the late 2000’s. I had owned 2 Porsche 911s in secession. While I certainly was not getting bored with the 911 I had always been intrigued with other cars that were direct competitors with it.
Along came this new Aston Martin with looks to die for and a diminutive size just - like Porsche’s used to be. Here in New England the roads are narrow and feature tight turns and plenty of elevation changes. Making a 911 the perfect sports car for these parts. Add to that, the possibility of counting myself among the few people on this planet who can say yes I’ve owned an Aston Martin Motorcar and well, it was a no brain-er.
Like its German predecessors, my car had to have a manual gearbox. And at the time there were plenty around. Just look at this I paid less than $40k for an exotic car with 33,000 Miles on the clock.
Let’s look at the car. The stunning looks are not just skin deep. Under the hood there is a 4.3l V8 mid-front mounted and dry sumped. Just like, you guessed it, the 911. Dry sump oil systems are critical for preventing oil starvation during hard cornering. Without an oil pan sitting under the engine you can set the engine lower too.

Bought a V8 Vantage about three months ago. I felt like the time was right and the prices were never going to be that low again -- there have been way too many good cars I've watched depreciate and then skyrocket out of reach, so I figured now or never. It's easily the best purchase I've ever made. I cannot imagine more bang for the money than what the Vantage provides. The driving experience, the looks, and the sound are all just fantastic. And fun fact -- Porsche makes more 911s in a year than Aston made Vantages in the entire production run, so it will always be a rare car. Most people who encounter one on the road have never seen an Aston Martin before. You just cannot say that about a 911.
And when you factor in the relatively light maintenance needs (compared to other cars in this category), it really is a no-brainer. And like you said -- I don't need a thousand horsepower. This car is plenty fast enough to get me into trouble, and there are a few fairly reasonable and discreet upgrades that'll squeeze a bit more power out of the engine if you ever really want it.

Nice video. I have a 2009 4.3 and owned it for near three years, never missed a beat, been beautiful to drive, look at and hear.

The best alternative to the Porsche 911 in my book.Given the choice I will still choose the 911 has down. After six decades its still timeless.

This is the one car I’d consider as an alternative to my 911. The sound, style, and emotion it provides is amazing considering the prices they go for these days. It is a bargain for what you get versus a comparable 911. You don’t see these around much either when driving around which adds to the uniqueness. Enjoyed your video!

I’ve owned a 2008 roadster in the same color combination with a manual transmission for about two years now. It’s been extremely reliable and so much fun to drive. It’s been fun to take to car shows and to participate in the local Aston Martin Owners Club rides. The club rides are an added bonus of owning an AM. I’ve met so many nice Aston Martin owners. I like the fact that this is a car that people do not see very often if at all. The exhaust notes are incredible.

Thanks for giving a straight forward review with real examples of practical use. I too don’t want/need 1000hp 😅 I’m coming from an stage 2 E92 M3 and I really feel this is the next buy for me. Thanks again for your input and much success with your channel 👍🏽💯

Such a beautiful car. Thanks for the honest review, and for going into the history, taught me a thing or two and I study (read: drool over) these a lot.

This is the first video of yours that I’ve watched. I just bought a 2012 Aston Martin Vantage S (V8) automated manual. I’ve wanted a Vantage since I first saw one in 2007. Your video makes me love my Aston even more, and I didn’t think that was possible. Great content.

Great overview. I've had my 07 Vantage 6MT for about a year and a half and it's a great car, and though I've yet to track it, I have autocrossed it a couple times (videos on my channel). As a counterpoint, a friend let me autocross his 991.2 911T last weekend, and it drove fantastic but you really had to make sure to load the front tires on corner entry. Though it didn't help that his tires were pretty dead lol

Just subscribed, not because I’m bias towards Astons, because I really enjoyed the video. Great content and delivery, none of the hype or over written acting some of the ‘bigger’ channels bring you.

Had a DB9 Volante for about 9 months now and not a spot of trouble. I believe the Vantage is more of a track day car as the DB9 is more of a cruiser with its V12 engine.

Well done! I have a 2007 Convertible, drove 10'000 Miles this year and "enjoyed everyone". This car is not for power, tracking or any other bartalk rubbish. The Vantage you feel, you enjoy and you estimate. This week I had to stop at a red light and the Stereo sounded "live and let die" in a classic version. The guy on the crossroad looked at me and just put the thumb up. I nod back.
The comparison with a 911 is not relevant, such as I won't do it with my Lotus. Totally different cars and totally different to drive or... to experience.

Have owned several air cooled 911’s, including a 1988 930 Cabriolet. Absolutely loved owning and driving them. If I had a reputable independent shop nearby, I would definitely have an Aston.
I think the Rapide would be my choice, but they are all beautiful.

  • @aston-martin-internationalist

N420 and regular 4.7 have the same 420bhp engine performance. Not sure if you got the N430 which was 430bhp and then the GT8 which you didn't get and that was 440bhp. Current Vantage is going through a refresh for next year along with DB11, I don't believe it's going away. I'm at the Aston Martin factory on Tuesday so will probably be able to get confirmation of that.

With aston martin, it's not about the car, it's about james bond and every kids dream. I'd buy one in a second if I could afford it. I grew up with james Bond, and there will never be an alternative to the Aston.
