    JUST AS A REMINDER: This is likely a very very early alpha screenshot. Nothing that we see here should be taken as a final product whatsoever, but it does give us a glimpse at what they were thinking of!

    Diagonal roads and buildings are something the beauty builders have wanted since at least 1404. If someone is a min/maxer, then just don't use them.

    Anno 117 - Via Diagonalis.
    I wonder whether there will be official river slots for river buildings in all sessions. Sand mining for metals in rivers was and still is a very profitable way to obtain them, especially if you are looking for a high purity ore.

    Funny, to introduce diagonal roads now, when Romans were famous for building (inventing?) the grid layout for military camps and cities.

    Love the 45 degree angles! Like you said, you don’t have to use them if you don’t want to but I think it’s great to break up the straight lines we are used to in 1800. Makes it feel more organic. As for the blank space, I’m sure there will be options to add bushes or trees until ornaments become available. It’s a super interesting screenshot with lots to examine! Can’t wait for the live session on the 18th to see more. Gonna be a long wait until this is released!

    The swamp region looks interesting. Making it traversable via bridges or draining it first before you can use it?
    I'm guessing this is just early concept art used to pitch the game idea. Diagonal building could be interesting if there are a lot of mountain/swamp/river areas on the map that are breaking up the grid.

  • @soanvig
    @soanvig Před měsícem +7

    I wonder why they don't want to have partially procedurally generated building models that would adjust to a assigned space. That would make sense for housing at least. It would solve problem of wasted space, make cities more diverse etc.

      It would make it extraordinarily difficult to keep the fun npc and environmental animations with procedural modeling without -massive- technology investments. If they mess up the art style in the game from 1404/1800 I am done with the series forever. I don't want to more generic looking games.

  • @Franimus
    @Franimus Před měsícem

    The Anno 1800 screenshot was likely doctored in the sense of it not being from any normal gameplay. So more of an accident that an artist wanted to show a nice-looking harbor but forgot the no diagonals rule. They may have placed assets via an editor so that everything was still rendered by the game engine.
    I'd say the same for the Anno 117 screenshot except there are way too many for it to be an accident; they are definitely showing it off intentionally.
    The building in the bottom right doesn't quite fit though, the road/path to it is curvy. So either that's an accident or it's a building with a larger footprint and that path is just part of the footprint.

      A general word for it should be "collegia" - a union of colleagues. You can then add an additional adjective to make it more specific depending on the type of work that union is dedicated to.

    Yeah I agree with you. I thought it was silly seeing those folks freaking out about diagonal roads messing with peak efficiency. Diagonal roads aren't required placements. 😂 If a player wants peak efficiency then they won't use them. Players who are more aesthetic focused might want them. Win-win in my book.

  • @SuperJJAlexander
    @SuperJJAlexander Před měsícem

    Would anyone like to have an option for 1x1 fields to be automatically managed by the game?
    Examples of what I mean:
    - When I place a new farm, the game should place enough fields for that farm.
    - When I move a farm, the game should place enough fields around the new location.
    - When the number of optimal fields of a farm changes (due to specialist or module), the game should place enough new fields.
    - When a building or road is placed on top of some fields, the game should move the displaced fields somewhere else.

    • @joshuavinicombe5774
      @joshuavinicombe5774 Před měsícem

      I'd like that very much. It would be as if the farmers working on the farm know what they need and the go out and plough as much as required. If the governor builds a road on one of his plots, he'll go plough else where.
      Or in the case of 1800, if the farmers gets a tractor he'll automatically go out and plough the extra plots without the game player having to tell him to
