  • Police are cracking down on drivers ignoring school bus stop lights in Huron Township. It's one of the first things taught in driver's training. You see flashing lights on a school bus, and you stop your vehicle until those lights turn off. But lots of drivers are ignoring that and putting students in danger.

    I’m a local truck driver in Myrtle Beach and Charleston areas. Whenever I see a car speeding past a stopped bus I use my air horn. You’d be surprised how many motorists see the red lights w/ stop signs and just gun it to 70 mph. It’s sickening to witness this when kids are loading onto the bus.

      I’m moving to South Carolina, more specifically the Charleston area! Good on you dude… Wish cops would pay more attention to this because I saw online that the law in SC they would throw the book at you over this. 30 day jail time or $500 fine and 6 points on your license. I currently live in PA and it’s just a slap on the wrist here: $250-300 fine and 4 pts. It’s bad

    Charge them with attempted murder and child endangerment that’ll make people stop running the stop sign. I’ve witnessed a few close calls myself when I see people pass school buses with stop signs out. When those lights are on the children have the right of way, especially ones that have to cross the street.

    As a bus driver for 27 years I’ve had people drive under my rear bumper as I’m stopped with all lights lit and claim they didn’t see me. Oncoming cars running reds was so common that I stopped bothering to report it. One little kid had to go through special training on getting off because drivers would pass me on the shoulder in front of her house as she was stepping off.

    so its ok to cross the bus when lights are not flashing? new to driving hence curious. Confused about this since she mentions that its only 11 seconds which wont save any time, indirectly implying that when bus lights are not on, cars can pass the bus? But from other videos and handbook, I heard that you are not supposed to pass the bus PERIOD regardless of which direction you are going(unless you are separated by a median)

    • @jessjae3449
      @jessjae3449 Před 4 měsíci +2

      Yes, but watch out for children! Look in every direction. When you see those yellow lights, slow down to where it's easy to stop when the red lights are flipped on. Normally when the yellow lights are on, the kids are spotted /or bus plans on stopping to wait for children, so the reds can come on less than those 11 seconds or stay on longer. Staying vigilant will make this easier for you. Some places, even the other side of the median also has to stop - so research your state's law ( Your State DMV website) to find out exactly.

    • @aaronkoning7255
      @aaronkoning7255 Před 2 měsíci

      Yellow lights mean stop. Red lights mean stop under threat of law. I had a judge explain this to me when I "ran a yellow".
      Yellow basically means make every effort possible to stop as long as doing so wouldn't cause immediate danger (like slamming on your breaks).
      Going through a red means a ticket with absolutely no excuses, because you were required to stop for the previous yellow.

    • @jessjae3449
      @jessjae3449 Před 2 měsíci

      Don't know where that's the truth but the bus cameras are activated when the door opens and the door opens ( with the STOP signs, sometimes they're slow to come out) when there are red lights flashing.
      I do this daily for multiple stops, attend state transportation mandatory classes x a year for more than 10 yrs.
      You just got caught in some replay issues, (and they couldn't be bothered to let you off the hook because they want your money) or the driver really did quickly open on you and you couldn't clear the bus..
      What he did is basically recommended you to stop to avoid going back into his courtroom. @@aaronkoning7255 It sounds like you're talking about traffic lights though..

      I know to always stop for the buses, but today something different happened. The kids didn’t exit the building yet, and I waited behind the bus for the stop sign to come out but it didn’t. I assumed it was just waiting for the kids to come out so I started to drive off and as soon as I was already passing it, it pulled out the sign and the driver honked at me like crazy. They should have pulled out the sign right away. I hope I don’t get a ticket, I have never seen them wait that long to pull out the stop sign and I just assumed it was waiting until the kids came out. As I was already passing I saw the kids starting to come out of the building but I didn’t intentionally pass the stop.
