So great to see this here. I shot the cover photographs. The recording started at 3pm on Good Friday 1977 at Albert's Sydney studios. By midnight, Stefan was still at work overdubbing electric piano. He had run Golla and Burrows into the ground. I took the cover portraits the next morning in my studio over a champagne breakfast.

Thanks for posting this Bill. I just realised I was a youthful 35 when I was privileged to be part of this session. Now 78, I feel rejuvenated listening to it..

Hi Rob. Thanks for sharing such a great piece of history. So much wonderful Australian jazz from that time is gathering dust in archives, not available in modern formats. I assume you worked on numerous photoshoots like this during your career. I'd be interested in hearing more if you care to tell.

@@billstevens9686 Hi Bill, now you've triggered an old man into what I call his anecdotage. My apologies in advance for the name dropping to follow.
In my late teens living in Sydney, I used to haunt venues like the El Rocco club, the Mocambo and the Marble Bar (now incorporated into the Sydney Hilton Hotel), There also used to be a Sunday afternoon summer jazz/dance at an upstairs place in King Street called the Sky Lounge we used to go to. I remember a regular performer was a superb singer by the name of Terri King. The crowd that attended would mostly have come straight from the beach in Bermuda shorts, all tanned and still salty from the surf to dance barefoot..A pivotal event for me in a photographic sense was Bert Stern's Newport Festival film, Jazz on a Summer's Day which I saw at The Paris Cinema in about 1960. I still revisit this regularly on CZcams.
My earliest Sydney jazz memories are of performances by Dick Hughes, Ray Price, Alan Pennay, John Pochee and Bernie McGann ( I have a fine photograph of Bernie by photographer Bruce Hart on my dining room wall) while I was a jazz aficionado my photo career was broad-ranging and like my taste in music somewhat eclectic. Everything from war to fashion, to childbirth, papal and presidential tours, movie stills and corporate photography. On the music front, I shot album covers for amongst others the Supremes, Lionel Bart, Margaret Roadknight, and Bob Hudson, but also photographed The Mamas and the Papas, Tom Jones, Bob Dylan, Elton John's wedding and even once went on tour with the Bee Gees to Hamburg,
As a music fan though I also had/have very broad tastes, taking in performances by Miles Davis, Sarah Vaughan, Buddy Guy, Coleman Hawkins, Bill Evans, Cleo Laine, Gerry Mulligan, Dizzy Gillespie, Sammy Davis Jnr at venues as disparate as the old Rushcutters Bay Stadium, Ronnie Scott's in London and the Blue Note in New York.
But I was also into rhythm and blues and rock and roll so: performances by Clapton, Bob Marley, Gladys Knight, Eric Burdon, The Specials, Madness, Rod Stewart, The Rolling Stones, Creedence Clearwater Revival, Robert Palmer, Rory Gallagher, Ike and Tina Turner, BB King, Jethro Tull, Bo Didley, Santana, ELO, Santana, Frank Zappa. Now if that is not broad enough, you can add Pavarotti and Joan Sutherland, Yes, this old music freak also likes bel Canto opera. Now thank your lucky starts you didn't get me started on actors, personalities and politicians :-) I can tell you it's been an interesting 78 years.

    Thanks Bill
Just a wonderful album by a wonderful trio. George Golla is apparently still going strong. As is (I hope) your program on our local community FM station.

Probably recorded while he was touring with The Dis Disley Trio. That's a concert I'll never forget. John Etheridge took the roof off.

I had George Golla as teacher - he taught how play bass, chords and solos on one guitar all the same - brilliant player and teacher....and you're right, he'd cover the bass lines, the accompanying chords as if on piano and then lead gtr solos...fab player!
