    Hey, Pizan! That is gorgeous. I bet it would look really pretty as an embroidery design. I can just save it as an emf or svg, and bring it into Embird. It will come in auto digitized. And then, I can play with the embroidery parameter settings to get a good blending effect. Thanks again.

      @@IronEchoDesign When trying to get the map from a country, how can I get only the international borders without the internal borders of the states? I’m trying to do Bolivia but there is only one option on the website for boundaries.

    • @IronEchoDesign
      @IronEchoDesign  Před rokem +1

      I just pulled up maps-for-free for Bolivia. The free program has good relief features, but it doesn't let us overlay country borders at the same time. One method would be to zoom in on Bolivia in the relief view and download the map for the relief data alone. Then click on the country button in the upper left and maps-for-free will give you the outline (with states too though). You can overlay the border map download on top of the relief download so at least you have the topography lined up. Then I would get a clean Bolivia country shape PNG from somewhere on the internet and Object-Set-Clip the relief map. I know this is complicated. Maybe I can revisit this tutorial on the channel and show how to do landlocked locations. Hope this helps!

    • @IronEchoDesign
      @IronEchoDesign  Před 2 lety +1

      Thanks!! Open-sorcery- hilarious! Great question about CYMK. There is no direct option inside of Inkscape...yet. From my experience, some print shops will convert for you, others accept RGB, but the absolute best bet is to request a sample no matter what you choose. CYMK printers still have variations in ink, the material it goes on, etc. It's such a great question because it's very relevant to what we do with our designs in the physical world. If any print shop operators are reading, any advice?

      I wish I could. One of the reasons I switched from Adobe to Illustrator was to get away from the lifetime subscription model. However, Illustrators is the industry standard and it has a lot of features I miss. Maybe I can cross back over someday. From memory you can map textures in perspective onto shapes and that would be my first approach. Wish I could help l more!

    Great tutorial! is it possible to make the landscape appears to pop off the page?

    • @IronEchoDesign
      @IronEchoDesign  Před 2 lety

      Thanks! I know what you mean about pop off the page. Some of the more powerful topographic map sites allowed for different angles that showed a more dramatic elevation than birds-eye view like what we have with maps-for-free. With more time, you could add more shadowing to the relief, but I think for the true 3D pop-off-the-page look would be easier made with Blender or even Photoshop. I'm very tempted to take a shot at making the look with Blender.

      Thanks!! Great question. That's one of the reasons I used to make fun of Paint Bucket. It's creating a new vector object based on the underlying item, like the blue ocean of the map. The new creation can be used to cut out the original source area - which was how I used to do it. Then I discovered the "delete the outside nodes" trick.

I keep trying to setup a t-shirt template for 4500px by 5400px, but when I save it as a png isn't never the right size. I have no idea what I'm doing wrong. I hope this makes sense. Thanks!

    • @IronEchoDesign
      @IronEchoDesign  Před 2 lety +1

      Thanks, and great question! 4500px by 5400px exporting as PNG. Got it. Go to File- Document Properties. On Custom Size settings, change the Width to 1440.0000 and the height to 1728.0000 in Units: px. Then on when you're on the Export to PNG menu, select Page as the export area. Make sure the image size DPI is 300.00. Inkscape will export your project as a PNG in the correct 4500x5400px format. Let me know if it works properly!

      If not, draw a shape that roughly follows along the coastline area where you want the shadow to go. Then drop that new shape one level lower that the good map. You can add your blur to that new shape to create drop shadow effect without having map distorted. Does this help?
