4:20 He was called "the bald" because he had no crown on his head for so long lol.
My favorite story among these is of the King of Lothringia. He was "married off" by his father to secure alliance (it didn't just happen to daughters lol). He had multiple bastards with his beloved Waldrada (has two congenital traits in both CK2 and CK3). As a king, he tried all his life to get a divorce and legitimize his children, but the Pope along with his relatives made sure it didn't happen and they inherited his lands instead.
“Ineptitude is something that did run within the Karling family.”
Absolutely brutal, man. I love it.
You have outdone yourself with this particular guide, providing historical context and even diplomatic history. A superior review, I really hope your commitment will be recognized. By the way, the statue from Aix-la-Chapelle at the start was a killer.
In 1066 you can also start as the duke of Lower Lorraine within the HRE. He is Wigeriche, a cadet branch of the Karlings. Build the Kingdom of Lotharingia. Try to re-marry yourself matrilineally to a daughter from that Vermandois county to "repaint" your family line's coat of arms into the colours of the main Karling house, though the duke is old and may die soon, so I had to sacrifice his son's actual historical marriage to the famous Matilda of Toscana for the sake of that CoA repainting. While staying under HRE, founded Kingdom of Lotharingia, conquered France and now aiming for the "Restore Carolingian Borders" decision along with the "Carolingian Consolidation" achievement.
I have never commented before but I wanted to say that I really do appreciate your guide videos. They are very informing and entertaining. Thanks for doing these. I always look forward to your guide content.
I appreciate that, thanks!
Same!!!
Now if only the 867 start wasn't a completely broken mess in game... Looking at you East Francian/Bavarian succession
fun fact hemma was the aunt of charles the bald by her older sister meaning that charles the bald was first cousins with his nephews
I know that the CKII crowd despise the Karlings and the 769 start date but I really hope that Paradox brings it back in DLC.
What can I say? I was named after Karl der Große.
That was goof advice. Also fine hhistorical information. So, I, too, started a new campaign in 867. As a count in Lotharingia, the count of Jülich. I play the game as the nice liege in the feudal order, building my two counties into a duchy, gobbling up the remaining de jure county in Cleve and sitting tight. Developing and marrying and a bit of conquering. Guess what happens with the AI controlled kingdoms. Well, my own king Lothar, he went on a breeding spree. As is usual, West Francia falls apart into France and Aquitaine. Same in the east as suddenly the kingdom of Bavaria appears. A few generations later, Lotharingia still exists and acquired Italy through marriage. France is still a crippled country and always in turmoil with Aquitaine. East Francia has not made a single progress, losing a few provinces while the Kingdom of Bavaria pops in and out of existence. The viking incursions are a threat, yes. In the beginning. But if you play the friendly liege and assist your king, well, he loves you. In the middle of the 10th century, if you can rule 2-3 duchies, you can raise 3-4000 men. That is about half the viking incursion. I only need to find a way to get a claim to the kingdom. Also, I found out, the middle ages were quite progressive. Being a homosexual character is no, i repeat, no hindrance for breeding like a rabbit. When I started out, one of my daughters turned out lesbian, but 5 healthy children. The gay liege lord, whose line i hoped to die out for this, churned out 4 kids. Also, one barren countess, whose little sister i married to a son crossed my plans by giving birth to two boys. The game also has a tendency that infant mortality is on a 20th century level means, the dynasties are swelling. Only my knights and maidens, they are between zero and two kids. Funny game.
the only guide you need for the Karlings is an intrigue lifestyle and the charecter finder 💅
bro ty so much for showing us the real history behind the Karlings, super interesting
Really interesting, mix of history and strats for characters. Well done.
Very informative guide RealmBuilder. I could listen to these for hours and just absorb all the information. Thank you
Really good stuff RBG!
I have been waiting for this 😁
Absolutely amazing work, i can't stop watching your videos of history explanations trough ck3
Glad you like them!
Im doing a Frankish play as we speak. Took me a long time to get into CK3 seeing as CK2 is still superior in content. But anyway so I dived into it before watching your video. In fact, I didnt know your channel even existed until a couple days ago. I'm very impressed by the quality content and the research and preparation that went into it. I have a channel myself but Im very amateur (not about CK3).
So anyway I played as Charles II and conquered all of the HRE. But I couldn't be bothered with all the rebellions. I switch character of the rebel, surrender, switch back. Call me a cheater ! I tried to be the nice guy overall and freed my prisoner but my blood boiled after several characters down the line I had about 6 brothers and I gave them the Kingdoms their Father (me) refused to give them during his time alive, the bastard. Anyway they ALL rebelled on me. I did the old switcheroo, ended the war. Liberated them and they rebelled again later on...I executed every single one of them, and their vassals, and their sons and wives, whoever I managed to capture as prisoners basically. Enough was enough.
Anyway great content ! On to watch your review about the Royal court next !
Another solid video. I’m a late bloomer to the game so you’re guides help me out
thought you just stoped uploading but i see you did not youtube just did not notify me XD. but yea good content as always.
Ooooooooooh love the guide videos
Criminally underrated channel. Excited to see more ck3 content from you!
Thanks!
My favourite one to play is carloman. Mainly because he actually has a decent heir
This was an amazing video. This is wat CK is really about. All these interesting dynasties and their intrigues. Do you plan on continuing on other famous houses?
I do have plans for other regions in the coming months.
11:00 Game over when your heir is the king of Italy, Ohhh no. I'd never want another Kingdom title for free ;)
The Karlings appear to have the tradition of dying during travels
Ah, how I missed those "region" guides videos.
Think you can do something about the Pugyel dynasty on Tibet?
I would love an EU4 great starts video!
YESSSSS
If you do another guide, can you do it for the Pfemyslid of Bohemia? It's not something that you would mention (probably), but they are a major villain in the Old campaign of the World of Darkness game Vampire: The Masquerade Redemption, which seems to be an interesting side note.
I do plan on doing a Central Europe guide
fun fact louis ii age was messed up he was suppose to be 42
Dude why are there not more videos like this?
I’ve got a few older ones for CK3 to choose from, and more coming this year.
I tried with Bald once...got assainated inside of a year.
Yeah it can be rough
I think all time the Karlings died of “Sickness” it was not sickness too coincidental how could none of them have learned not to die on the march?
What's the best duchies to take control of in Spain?
imagine watching a 40 minute video, only for most of the stuff to be patched lol
30:52 Isn't "Odo" the Robertine child count of Anjou who is a bookmarked character in 867?
If you're playing as Louis the Younger of Italy, would you recommend trying to ally with the Byzantine Empire, or are they on the wrong side of the Mediterranean to aid you against Francia/Lotheringia (and plus, they do have holdings it Italy you could theoretically take)? Or what about allying with the Bulgarians, especially if you want to get rid of the Byzantines from Italy?
The ERE is a great shout for that. Religion could be an issue, but no Catholic realm (outside of Moravia) would be worth it.
@@RealmBuilderGuy I'm sort of looking for a major power if playing as Louis the Younger (or any of the Kaling kings really) to shore up my armies, to be able to take on my annoying family. The problem is, even if you ally with the ERE, you'll be dragged into a bunch of wars the ERE would be fighting, mainly against the Muslims, but the Byzantine Emperor could decide to strike north instead (or the Bulgarians could go after them). You have the claims as any of the kings to form the HRE, but you would need support to do so (less so for Charles of West Francia, but any help rould be a good thing)
Tell me why my game married Ludwig 'The Younger' to King Lothaire II's beloved mistress?? Tryna create some more telenovella drama there, CK3? ;p
Hue have an heir 😂
Not a fan of his Christian Jihadi-ism. He just kind of wiped out all the magic in the world when Idrasil tree was cut down and he bullied the Saxons.
Sounds pretty based if you ask me...
