Don’t need a big yard to help and feel connected to nature. A small patio works just fine with nectar and host potted plants. Hang a hummingbird feeder and you have your own tiny paradise. Everyday first thing when I get up ,is to run to my butterfly garden to see what’s new. Nothing goes better with a cup of coffee or a glass of wine than bees, butterflies, and hummingbirds.

This was so much fun to watch! I'm planting a container of natives for the Mid-Atlantic coast. My milkweeds are butterfly weed (Asclepias tuberosa) and swamp milkweed (A. incarnata). For nectar, I have a compact variety of Joe-Pye weed, a tall anise hyssop, a compact form of coneflower, and New England asters that will start blooming in September. It looks so pretty! Now I will add sticks as you showed here, and a rock, to kick it up a notch. Thanks for the inspiration!

I have a butterfly garden done all in pots. I don't understand the tiny amount of milkweed? One tiny plant planted amongst those others will not feed all the caterpillars that you'll get on that one little plant. They'll starve for sure. You need 2-3 containers full of milkweed plants just to feed them all. This isn't really a good way to teach people how to start a butterfly garden in pots. The host plant needs pots to themselves and the nectar plants need pots to themselves to have a successful potted butterfly garden. But I enjoyed watching your video.

In a container, you can water the plants about 2-3 times a week depending on the time of year and the species you've planted.

@@TreeofLifeNursery is it 2-3 times a week during spring and fall, what about summer and winter?

You don’t want to attract lizards to your containers they eat the caterpillars.
