- Cowley Roundabout is one of the likely roundabouts to come on your Driving Test in Oxford and this video is to help you avoid those serious faults and pass your driving test.
In the video a car nearly crashes into me showing how difficult this Roundabout can do.

Good idea to do this video, I can see this roundabout causes issues as it only tells you about the left only at the last second and also the many people not understanding the road sign.
Causing not only issues for the learner not knowing where to position, but also have to anticipate other drivers getting confused.
Hi Ben just passed today with 3 minors these roundabouts videos helped significantly thank you so much
I generally think where you have lanes 1, 2 and 3 and lane 1 is left turn only the left turn only lane will expire after the first exit. At this point you always need to check it is safe and move left to the lane nearest the kerb. This is not obvious to new drivers.
Unbelieveably helpful! Thanks a million!
This was sooo helpful, thankyou!!
I failed this Monday on this roundabout wish I could see this video before
You're a lifesaver. thanks a ton!
I struggle in this roundabout. Thank you for the tips. I am having my exam next month (my 3rd and hopefully the last).
Best of luck on your test
did you pass?
The second example isn’t very clear. From which direction the car is approaching for the retailer’s park? “People use the middle lane” “You can only use the right lane here”. This is confusing. I paused and repeated here a few times but haven’t got it yet. Perhaps I’m just not clever enough.
So it’s from the same direction as in the 1st example, and it’s the most dangerous exit - because people use the middle lane when approaching the roundabout, which is wrong, and the correct way is that you should only approach it from the right lane when heading from the Garsington rd to the retailer’s Park. Right?
I think it’s wrong that when approaching from the right lane, if you head into the middle lane straight away just after you entered into the roundabout. You should stay on the right lane, and then stay on the left after the right lane splits into two lanes. And the left lane of the two split lanes will lead you to the retailer’s park.
Excellent! Huge thanks. 👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻
whilst you are indicating to enter the right hand lane to take the 4th exit should i cancel my right signal as i begin to merge into the middle lane to eventually come off so I don't confuse other road users by making it look like I'm trying to change lanes?
upload new video of Headington roundabout like this detail video
thanks
when going to ring road (s) from cowley is it possible to be in the left lane up the slip or do u have to end in the right hand one and move across afterwards?? i usually aim for left hand lane since my car hasnt got the power to go up the right one without causing others to undertake😅
Hi Ben, While driving out from retail park for road to london(M40), can i use middle lane or go far right? Is it required to use right signal from driving out from retail park(as satnav says its third exit)
When leaving the retail use right lane at entry and when going under the bridge you can use the middle or right lane and use signals
Well done pal
Thanks really helpful video
it is well known that Oxford roundabouts are among the most dangerous and poorly designed..they have been designed by a very inept highways director namely Cllr Ian Hudspeth..who has no training in this matter and therefore a lot of his ideas are very dangerous..including the infamous Hamburger Roundabout in Headington..therefore it is wholly wrong to use these potentially dangerous roundabouts on the Oxford Driving Test
Whilst I agree it is a terrible roundabout I would say that is what exactly what you should be tested on as you need to show on a driving test that you are ready for anything whilst on the road despite bad lane markings etc
Good video, thank you sir!!
might sound like a stupid question but do i have to indicate if the lanes tell you where youre going?
If lane goes left or right then yes
one badly designed Oxford roundabout has been shown to be the second most dangerous spot in the UK for accidents by the Dept of Transport stats...first place for collisions being on Lambeth Bridge Roundabout in London
Lead by example Ay!
2:15 one hand on the wheel the other in the air!
Driving instructors are the synical type!!!!
Nothing wrong with that, how do you think people with one arm drive?
@@BRMdrivingschool Obviously with a disability badge in the window.
Your are an instructor so what's your excuse again?
Its not illegal and was in control of the car. If you really want to go there then I do actually have a disability as well
