You said you only want an engineer’s explaination, and while I don’t have an engineering degree, I’m in an engineering school and my mom has talked a lot about working in the field. My guess for those janky stairs is that it was an idea suggested by an architect, not an engineer. An engineer would never suggest that because it’s extra effort for them. You’d have to do more math than a normal staircase for that one.

My guess for those janky stairs is that it was an idea suggested by an architect, not an engineer. An engineer would never suggest that because it’s extra effort for them. You’d have to do more math than a normal staircase for that one.
