Comparing this lap and max's pole from 2021, it really emphasizes how much more downforce the 2019 and 2020 cars had
Lap times has a lot to do with the new tyres, tyre pressure and engine mode as well tho

@@joupoes6092 I don't think the new regulations made that much of a change about downforce and quali lap times, maybe 3 tenths maximum, the seconds we lost on tracks that requires a lot of grip is to me because of the new tyres, maybe a bit because of the engine mode under parc ferme as well but mainly tyres, just remember how bad the drivers felts when testing these last year.

This was expected though, you guys should have made a video about how McLaren copied Mercedes suspension design and is now all of a sudden faster than the entire midfield.

Chill dude, this circuit favored McLaren's qualy setup for this weekend. Don't expect them to be able to do this every weekend. They might even lose a few positions in the race.
They just used the same type of pushrods the same way mercedes copied ferrari's diffuser in 2018 fym

Okay, but McClaren just introduced the "pushrod on upright" suspension design, which prior to the French GP only Mercedes was using...and only Mercedes could properly manage the tires and find extra pace. McClaren obviously realizes they need to keep their designs similar to that of the best teams, otherwise you wont be as fast as them. Pretty clear cut if you ask me.

The lap time shown in the graphic is wrong (this lap is 1:28.319 and not 1:28.448 that was the time of his first lap in Q3).
Could this actually be the first lap in Q3 ? I am saying this because of the small mistake towards the end

His second lap was the fastest one so that should be the time they give, that said his first time was enough for pole as well

This guy's intelligence reminds of Schumi's... He's the only one who knew exactly what he had to do, while others didn't know how to deal with that wind at the end.
Schumi helped Ferrari build these strong cars. He spent a lot of time with the mechanics. Meanwhile Lewis only drives. And of course does ... his fashion stuff...

Hamilton's pole lap in 2019 Paul Ricard is still a masterpiece.
Even with that oversteer and slide still kept it together and completed that lap. As always great by Lewis, but also wow for Lando, loving the McLaren climb back.
Dude was just in the Paris fashion week. Literally came back in a couple of days and delivered a pole lap. What a champ.

That wasn't his pole lap - went quicker on his second run - 1.28.319
this was it but they made an error with the time. i remember that snap of oversteer in the final sector
@@TheTororist Good eyes or you must have been there in person. The television live coverage was mainly focused on Bottas' final run. Hamilton, behind him a few seconds, was only barely visible in the background.

I think Vettel has been defeated mentally by Lewis. Ferrari should promote Leclerc to number one driver, but if they do that there will truly be no way back for Vettel, so they will wait til the end of the season. They must have written 2019 off by now, and be concentrating on car and lineup for 2020. But huge congrats to McLaren. That is a mighty improvement.

I think I taking the turn 2 kerb would slow you down, because you'd have to turn in sharper.

because need to carry speed from those quick left and right turns into the small straight and into turn 3 they are on the brake when they are on the kerbs so they position the car on the kerbs to carry more minimum speed into turn 4

People love to get onto hamilton instead of just appreciating that he's one best drivers of this generation. With all the things he does outside of racing, to still that have concentration, desire to go to every track and pull out laps like the one today. Only elite drivers are capable of that

I’m a bit surprised about the improvement in absolute lap time being approx 1.7 seconds over 2018 given that on average it’s been around 6-7 tenths on nearly every venue F1 has been to thus far this season. I guess the ‘partly’ resurfaced tarmac impacted that to an extent, but there has to be something else to it as well.

Hamilton should have gotten a grid penalty for what happened in practice with Verstappen. He should't be starting from pole, but no can do when he's the FIA's favorite.
@Dab Warrior It was a dangerous rejoin to track where the other driver had to avoid him, how isn't that a grid penalty? Also Verstappen was on a fast lap, so that just adds to it.

Ferrari put Vettel on brand new soft tire with a couple of laps to go so that he could collect the extra point for fastest lap, well Lewis with totally blistered Hard tires on the final lap went for the fastest lap and only missed by 2/100 of a second to show the difference in drivers, the hard tire were rated 1.2 seconds slower than the soft and this shows the skill of Lewis.
Impressive he was still able to get poll position despite that little mistake at the end!
He already had pole, this lap just improved it, he said he lost 3 tenths with that mistake according to his telemetry
