    one of the coolest things about pogchamps is how they take all the players seriously even though they are amateurs. (the community at large isn't great at this, but the coaches and commentators are generally pretty cool) praising good moves and giving constructive feedback. it inspires everyone to keep playing and become better

      Chess is a game of perfect information. Engines have an answer to every position, there is extensive opening theory, everyone can see how good each move is, and all players are ranked by elo. This makes us focus on the people ranked at the very top, rather than sometimes more entertaining and educational games at lower levels.

    For a 600 pokimane played brilliantly finding a lot of best moves. Unfortunate for her it looked like Daniel had a good knowledge of the end game and that was probably the difference. Still amazing to see from both players and how hard they have studied.

    • @ericlee6913
      @ericlee6913 Před 3 lety +2

    • @smrtfasizmu6161
      @smrtfasizmu6161 Před 2 lety +1

      It is not really knowledge of the endgame as much it is the blunder of the h pawn, after h pawn was blundered Daniel had 2 connected passers and those 2 passers with a bishop were much stronger than the rook. Losing that h pawn was crucial. That was an instructive moment since beginners usually don't account for passed pawns, connected passed pawns, pawn majorities and potential of creating a passer in the endgame, most beginners would just think oh I have a rook, the opponent has a bishop so I am in a better position than my opponent.

    It’s easier for us plebs to learn from these games, since a lot of the moves are relatable for beginners and intermediate players.

    • @Obi-Wan_Kenobi
      @Obi-Wan_Kenobi Před 3 lety +5

      Dude, I totally agree! I'm only 1100, but I have no clue what's going on in GM games. They think like 4+ moves ahead and I can't comprehend that level of depth, I go like 2 moves ahead max.
      But I understand what's happening in lower level games like this with more in the moment plays. It's really useful for me and most other players too. No one likes talking about how low their rating is, but like 50% of players are below 800. Low levels games are very effective at helping the majority of people learn.

    • @moredots
      @moredots Před 3 lety +8

      You're totally right. GM games are super interesting and exciting, but every time Levy or someone is commenting on one of those and throws in "...now obviously you can't do this because this and this and castle and knight moves and you're down a pawn" I'm just like "...oh, it looked ok to me..."
      But this stuff is like a game I would play, except people care. And that's fun to watch.

    Respect to analyzing a 600 level game. Even though we don't want to admit it, like 50% of Chess players are below 800 rating and seeing games at our level helps us learn. Sure high level games help us learn too, but I honestly feel that I understand what's going on more here than I would a GM game.

      rating capped tournaments are very normal in chess and I do think if he really is poised to get to 1700-1750 before the tournament is over he'd be such a huge favorite it's understandable. it does suck because I also want to see him in the tournament and I'd also like to see some slightly stronger players in pog champs maybe for pog champs 4 they invite only the stronger twitch stars and allow players like northern to play.
