    Awesome build. Expensive brakes! I have the Willwoods front and rear, but couldn't justify pulling the trigger for Brembos. During Covid I did the same project to my 2005 R50 (owned it since new); I pulled the subframes, ground off all the rust and repainted them with POR-15, upgraded all the bushings, control arms, sway bar, R56 aluminum trailing arms, Vorschlag camber plates, etc., etc. It was great to have everything out on the garage floor to clean and assess, and reassemble better than new. The car is rattle free and handles like a dream. I put Bilstein PSS-10s (the adjustable ones) on my wife's F30 and would like to put them on my R50 (it currently has FSD dampers with 30mm lowering springs, which work great, but just lack adjustment).

    Subbed, just watched your entire 'series'! Fantastic to watch. Be really careful in future if you remove the shock mounting bolt at the bottom of the trailing arm. Mine were nuked so had to get another set of trailing arms :( I stripped the thread removing some crappy coilovers.

    Just watched all of your videos, they’re excellent! What’s the plan? Just freshen everything up? Was the cam anything special?

    • @trackdriven
      @trackdriven  Před 3 lety +1

      Hi mate thank you for watching :) yeah the plan was to refresh or upgrade the parts, the cam was Newman's PH2 which I had dynoed with the supporting mods up to 235hp which I was very pleased with. Suspension is completely overhauled too meaning it handles very nicely and predictably now, it's only had one track shakedown so far so more testing needed

    • @MiniMattTV
      @MiniMattTV Před 3 lety +1

      bwalky films excellent! I was surprised how in depth you went with it tbh, nice to see it all fresh, did you paint under the car while it was all apart?

    • @trackdriven
      @trackdriven  Před 3 lety

      @@MiniMattTV the front of the car was okay there was some rust at the back of the car which was ground back and then the rear has been undersealed completely. Other than that the car was in reasonable condition

    Great rebuild. What car are the front calipers from? Or are they part of a big brake kit? Would love to fit them on my race car!!

    • @trackdriven
      @trackdriven  Před 3 lety +2

      They are Renault Mégane 275 brakes! They use an adapter available from a guy in the R53 Owners Club on Facebook, they use 330mm disks and do stop really really well, I think all in all cost about £600 with disks, pads and braided lines from HEL

  • @patherl1
    @patherl1 Před 3 lety +2

    Literally been dreaming about doing this to my mini since a first watched this vid a few weeks back. Do you have a parts list for the subframes? Mainly just need the list of bushes and bolts if possible?

    • @trackdriven
      @trackdriven  Před 3 lety +1

      sorry for not getting back to you that fast, new poly bushes were all brought through powerflex www.powerflex.co.uk/products/R50-52-53+Gen+1+%282000+-+2006%29-503/1.html
      there are a little bit harsher and slightly more noise but do help with handling, most of the bolts were cleaned up and painted underneath and smaller m6 bolts were replaced with stainless items from eBay

    • @patherl1
      @patherl1 Před 3 lety +1

      No worries at all, thanks for the reply!! Yeah I can imagine the improvement being poly'd. Interesting those bolts cleaned up so well, did you send them to the blasters along with the subframes etc or just a home scrub up job?
      Got a good quote from a local blasters, ordered the bushes yesterday just need to buy hubs, tie rods, control arms, I am looking at getting all that stuff from lohen, their house made control arms and drop links seem reasonably priced unless you know otherwise? Not sure I can afford to go the whole hog with brake and coilovers like you :(
      Thanks again for getting back to me!

    • @trackdriven
      @trackdriven  Před 3 lety +1

      the bolts I reused on mine were just a home job with a wire brush on an angle grinder, it takes a little time but it's worth it to put things back together nicely again, I used there arms for this build but the lohen arms do look nice although maybe a bit more harsh with pillowball bearings rather than bushes orranje.co.uk/shop-by-brand/hardrace/hardrace-adjustable-rear-control-arms-hardened-rubber
      you don't need to replace all four lower arms but it does help for super fine allignment adjustments

    • @patherl1
      @patherl1 Před 3 lety +1

      @@trackdriven Yeah thats a good point about pillow ball/poly that I hadn't considered, so thank you. Out of interest, how are the bilsteins on the road, I wonder how they compare to the ohlins...I want to try and stretch the budget and get coilovers and brakes also now.

    • @trackdriven
      @trackdriven  Před 3 lety

      The bilsteim B14s are much nicer than stock worn suspension, but they are a bit pricey and lack adjustability for stiffness and damping which could be useful for very track based cars, however they are excellent for a fit and forget type mod. Overall a good ride and with the bonus of height adjustability they are a good improvement, they do handle well on track too. I have heard good things about Ohlins also so you probably can't go wrong with a reputable company.
