I love the ingenuity that went into designing and building that kitchen. Look forward to seeing how it works for you. I liked seeing the old school Coleman stove. We had one that burned white gas when I was a kid so seeing yours took me back to those times camping with my Dad.
It's beautiful, Dan. I love the design. Clever idea how the shelving slides back to reveal the cutting surface. Tons of space to work with.
Happy for you Dan!!
That's a nice setup. My only piece of advice regarding the coleman stove would be to add a splash of acetone to the fuel tank if you are running gasoline from a gas station. The fuel additives will try to clog up the generator and keep the stove from working properly over time. A bit of acetone in each tank helps keep the buildup down.
Great looking kitchen setup.
Cheers.🍻
Happy holidays. 🎁🎉🎊🎄
Dan, I have to say, with all the engineering that went into the kitchen system, I couldn't stop looking at the ol' Coleman stove. That bring back memories to my first family roving camping trip. Since covered a large amount of Appalachia I think we could call that an overlanding trip. Same stove we used for that trip. I used it for some 4WD trips of my own. Still works. Sitting somewhere in my Mom's basement.
I have a similar experience with that stove but don’t still have it. I may have to keep an eye on Craigslist or Marketplace and find another one. Mine had the red tank and wasn’t dual fuel. Memories.
I have one of those stoves but single fuel only. It was manufactured in 1980 and I lit it for the first time last Summer
Sweet set up looking good thanks for the video be blessed
Looks awesome ! Safe travels. 🤙🏼
Nice design. I like the 'cavity' between the fridge and the prep area.
The kitchen is great, and your choice to have the chopping board as the bench surface is genuis and easier than handling portable cutting boards. 👌👌
Sturdy, dust, rattle free and practical etc. I am impressed, would fit a holder for a umbrella if there is no trees. Thanks!
Super nice. It really looks like something you could live with on a daily basis. I thought about a slide-out tray with COTS sealed aluminum boxes, but would end up with extra metal. Interesting fridge location.
Incredible setup 🤘🏼
I really like the design of this kitchen. Is well thought through, maybe the best solution for PickUps I have ever seen. Could be also a good solution for my next Africa trip van. But unfortunately Overland Kitchens products are a bit over my budget. But I think I can build something like it, maybe not from stainless steel, but maybe a kitchen made out of wood could also work.
That is a brilliant design.
Great vid as always! Gotta say I’m s little jealous of the big long drawers you can get in a truck bed compared to an suv. My house’s kitchen isn’t that efficient!
Little tip: I made a huge cutting board like the one you have and it’s awesome, but a year later I’m just finishing making a smaller one (maybe 11”x14”), being so small it easy to move around for a number of tasks, not only cutting, and it’s also much faster clean as well.
I still keep and bring the big one, it’s just good to have the smaller second one.
Enjoy your trip and avoid the omicron!
If your SUV has a rear seat, you can often fold it down and have at least the 5.5' the Gladiator has in its bed. My minivan, the same exterior dimensions as an SUV, can fit a 4x8' sheet of plywood seats down, as good as an 8' pickup box.
I would figure out how to use the stainless as a wind block behind your stove
Nice setup. Definitely need the bench tops covered due to the stainless steel getting very hot in the sun. Timber cutting board works well. With #toughtear we built our kitchen from alloy.
Excellent. I prefer wood to metal for prep too. Love the Coleman stove, especially if you have the oven attachment too. Just one thing. Washing up?
Nice! Is there a way to mount the cutting board lower? Is there a place to mount a collapsible sink?
Great episode, Dan. Merry Christmas from Auckland. Love Rolanda and Mark. We were hoping to get back to the truck by Christmas but our borders are still not opening up
Fingers crossed!!! Merry Christmas
Nice, missing the sink but really clever this setup with rail and security locking every where!
Also, thoughts about a sink? Just use wash bins or collapsible wash bins? So curious!
I would have to assume if it is dust proof ,it would also be rodent proof . That's a big plus Dan and worth mentioning .Thanks for the entertainment
Beautiful kitchen. Tough choice between Goose Gear and this for my ranger build. Any idea on weight?
Man, enjoy that time with your dad. Wish I could have done this sort of stuff with mine. Your setup looks really nice. I like how it pulls far enough away from the truck so you dont have to worry about heat getting to that topper. Have you thought about some sort of tent shade so you dont have to cook in the rain? :)
Yep, I have a Rhino-Rack batwing for that very reason!
Awesome vid as usual! Quick question, why did you pick the Overland Kitchen over the Quick Pitch pull out kitchen that is made in AU? Been looking at different kitchen options.
Great demo and description! Was worth the wait! Will you have a video of the install? I assume it’s bolted down I the truck bed ?
PS. Maybe the stainless cover could hold a foldable tub/sink to wash dishes. Or that serving tray for sure
I didn't film the install, I was very cramped in a mate's garage. I just bolted it down to the tub, easy peasy.
Dan-
Great video. Could you go more in detail about how you attached yours to the Gladiator’s bed, as well as how you are running power to the fridge through the box? Is there a port, grommet, etc.?
There is a grommet for power in the middle at the back.
I bolted mine down through the tub.
Dan, question for you:
Do you store extra fuel in your Coleman stove tank? Or do you dump fuel back into the vehicle tank after use? I am concerned about safety of storing fuel in the tank in a hot vehicle or while sleeping. You have lots of experience between Africa and Australia with these types of stoves. I’d love to hear your thoughts. Thanks.
I like the kitchen setup. The only thing I don’t like is having to pull the whole thing out to access the fridge.
So if you just need to access fridge you need to pull out the whole kitchen ?
I was thinking the same thing. I hope you can access it from the top through the side of the canopy.
Yes, you need to slide it right out. I was a bit unsure about that too - I will let you know how it goes long, long term.
The stove might be in the rain sometimes. You could turn that slide into an actual drawer to store more food and just put the stove on the tailgate. This would also solve the wasted space above the stove when it's tucked away
He has a 270° awning with walls
Yes the Stove drawer has a lot of wasted space in it definitely. For the amount of Design going into this, maybe that could have been better. Still very adaptable tho !

How do you get into the back of the cooler
Big fan of your series, you explain everything so well, can you tell me where you purchased the coleman 424 stove, being trying to locate one without any luck.
I found it used on Gumtree (Australian version of Craigslist for buy and sell)
What system is used for the power cable for the fridge to prevent damage? Looks like you can anywhere you like at the moment except WA until February.
Dan, it looks great and well organized. There seems to be a lot of empty space below the cutting board (above the stove). Is there storage there you didn’t cover in the video?
That's the secret storage :)
Do you have to go through the full slide out deployment just to grab a drink from the fridge?
Will you keep the fuel bottle attached full time or will you remove it to add fuel? For the few seconds it takes to stash the fuel tank I’m not sure mounting it externally is really worth the bother? I’ve been using mine for over a decade and it’s never even occurred to me to hard-mount it…why??
Does he make a slide out kitchen for the Ford SuperDuty 6.5ft bed do you know?
Looks great… just the fridge thing niggles me a bit.
How is it anchored to truck bed?
Do you have one that will fit a Dometic 75 dual fridge?
Nice set up. What about power to the fridge and does the fridge come with a thermal 'blanket' cover as an option. Just fyi - skiing at Whitewater great opening week.
There is a grommet in the rear for the power cable, and yes, the Dometic fridge has the insulation cover as an option
What are those drawer latches called on the carpet drawers? Those look great. I'm using barrel bolt locks but they're a pain when it's cold or when there truck is at an angle.
Look like Kings Titan without the badges. Could be wrong!!
If you really want to see if it is as good as you say it is, get the boys from All4Adventure in Queensland to test drive it!! I have seen many of these in my quest to find the best for the money paid out. I have a feeling this one is too expensive for what you get!!
Can you stand on it? Like to get in a Go Fast Camper from the bed?
It would be great to have a hole below the cutting board to put in a collapse sink to do dishes.
You could easily cut one anywhere yo want. It's extremely easy to customize
My only concern would be the overall height of the kitchen when you have a gladiator on a 3 inch lift with 37s. Too high for my wife who stands 5'1"?
Looks like a killer option. Is the frame that stays in the truck stiff enough as a sitting platform if you threw some cushions on it?
im going to say no, but you better ask overland kitchen
So jealous
How do you get at the filters?
I can just reach in past the back of the fridge
I still think that fridge might get pretty damn hot in there. A little muffin fan that kicks on when the fridge is running might make sense.
😎👍
hard to beat a Coleman grill
What's it cost in US dollars?
Dan, how heavy is your new kitchen? Dimensions? Good job!!!
4000us$ for this? Crazy.
Seems like a nice product but where eg is the sink? Could have recessed that in the cutting surface with a cover to not loose any usable surface.
Did you ever looked at drifta?
Looks awesome but lack of rubber seal on rear cover says to me it's not truly dust sealed.
Looks awesome though, very well done
I'm going to test it out, and if it needs a rubber seal it will be a $3 addition. No sweat.
@@TheRoadChoseMe agreed, and it does look awesome
Nice concept but to high to fit the cover of the truckbed. I have my rtt mounted flat on the truckbed, so this Kistchen will not work for me
Oh man… this is really making me consider ditching my four wheel camper for a lighter set up like this…
Love it! The cutting board seams a bit high for normal cutting/utility use. I know you’re over 6’ tall. It still just looks a little high. Thoughts?
It's perfect for me. Also I just use a pot to wash up. I don't know why Aussies are so obsessed with a washup space! - it seems like all the Aussie kitchens are 90% washup space!
WOW !!! $3997.00 without the stove or fridge??? Maybe you should read this book " Work Less to Live Your Dreams: A practical guide to saving money and living your dreams" lol!
Very good video but outrageously expensive for what it is and intended purposes.
Covid has massively driven up the price of stainless... so it is what it is.
@@TheRoadChoseMe How expensive is 'outrageously expensive'?
@@spudboy1328 $4,000
We dont use the tern pick up truck in Australia
Clearly he’s pitching at the majority American viewer base.
Looks like they don't make one that fits Jeep JLU...
They do! overlandkitchen.com/product/jlu-expedition-kitchen/
@@TheRoadChoseMe Well I be darned... totally missed it!! :D
4 thousand dollar drawers! Ooo K.
I fundamentally disagree with cooking next to your rig. Having worked in kitchen my whole life, I know how smell and grease embeds itself into upholstery, leather, and head liners. When my people go camping, we keep a distance from the rigs. But we seem to be a minority in this department. Nevertheless, nice setup.
When I cook on this thing I'm literally 10 feet from the nearest door into the cab... and they're closed.
I'm inclined to agree, but for different reasons. You only need a misbehaving stove or to have a fat fire to not only lose your cooking area, but all of your vehicle and belongings. Maybe it's being used to old Land Rovers where the doors don't stay open by themselves, but I just can imagine a gust of wind knocking the door into the stove, and a fire afterwards.
$5521aud no fridge, stove, gear or shipping. That's a firm no from me.
