Wait, I'm 36 and have a gen3 SDR, and a 1190 ADV-R (soon to be replaced by a 1290 SAR when available in the states). I prefer the Adventure bike because of it's flexibility to do and be fun at every style of riding. I only wish its motor was more aggressive like the super duke.

You need a SAR to go out and play , no boundaries , take dirt roads , pack your bags and spend 600km riding in one go like i did today. The SDR is just a beast you also need in your garage when you wanna go out an play. Pop wheelies and ride really sporty 😁. That’s when the SDR is most fun , when you really give it some gas.
Would be awesome to have the engine of the R under a SAR , but i think it would be to much roughness for what that bike is made for 😁.

I bought an S a year ago. I took it to the grocery store today and on the way back I wondered how much more flickable a Super Duke would be. Yeah, I'm spoiled. I know. Anyhow that led me to your video. I like your presentation style.
I didn't realize that the GT weighed so much more than the Super Duke. Going from the GT to the SAS isn't nearly as much. But things like the compliant suspension, adaptive cruise control and split radiators do add up. All in all I think I'm good with what I've got.

I brought new my 1290s 2 months ago and still own my GT model. My reason is for more comfort, being older than you handle bar reach is no problem, but the rear set foot pegs on the GT is painful now for me. The S model with the seat in the high position is perfect and makes for a great long ride with no knee pain. The difference is like a SUV to a sports car. Love the new switch gear and screen. The final grear ratio sprocket size makes the S feel so much faster of the line lifting the front wheel with ease. Yes the engine is much refined than the GT.

You can sit back on the SAR seat and put your feet on the crashbars! So comfy haha. And most important is my ass!!! That GT would put me in lots of but pain after 300km , did almost 600 on the SAR and it’s like a 2 which i consider normal 😁.

Sounds and looks like you're mostly describing the same differences between my drz400s with 21/18inch wheels and my cbr500r with 17/17inch wheels. CBR is the 'faster' bike and has a very similar riding position to the GT. Around corners the DRZ feels much nicer and alot more fun than a normal road sport touring kind of bike.. (also has an identical body position to the SDAR you have there). If it wasn't for the lack of fuel tank capacity and the lack of fuel gauge, then I'd choose the DRZ everytime for longer journeys..

The Adventure R is a beautiful bike. I also like the aggressive and sporty design and look of the GT and I was surprised by the superior wind protection that you’ve experienced on the Adventure R in comparison with the GT. I also fitted a Puig windshield on my SDGT but it isn’t so dark it is just Smokey 😂. It looks better in my opinion. You’re talking about comfort and there, the adventure wins big time.
I don’t go with a bike like this on off road because I don’t wanna drop it and because my skills are poor . But I like gravel roads and soft off road trails where I could use a bike like the Adventure R but in fact I don’t go off-road with the GT. It simply is not suited for that kind of work.
After this video, I certainly will test the Adventure R. Thanks for an excellent quick comparison between the two bikes👌

I've been riding an 1190 Adventure for six years. My previous bike was a 990 SMT, which I loved, but when I read the review of the 1190 in the January, 2014 issue of Cycle World, and saw the objective acceleration times, I couldn't resist. They reported: 0-30 (mph), 1.2; 0-60, 2.8; 0-90, 5.0; and a 10.68 quarter @ 129, and a top speed of 151.
KTM claimed 148 HP and a dry weigh of 462. More recent reviews, of all bikes, don't report objectively measured acceleration. My 1190 is so f**king fast, which I love, but experience very selectively, that I have trouble understanding comments like, "I have the GT because I enjoy (or need) the extra power."
I assume that all the 1290s are faster than my bike, or should be, but do we know this empirically?
    Great review, by the way.

Well... I tried the SAS and the GT and compared. My impression is that the GT is far superior for on road fast riding. Much more precise and more options in out and mid-turn of corners. And the way the engine delivers the GT just rips more. So both engine and chassis is better for on road sporty riding in my honest opinion. And for active on road riding I got a slight pain in my wrist with the SAS. Probably because I like half a butt on seat and hang slightly over bars, and results in get some not so favorable pressure points on outside palm/wrist. With longer stretches of twisties this can be a little strenuous. But for off road it's another story. The SAS put it self neatly in between the SAR and the GT. The GT is absolutely NOT for off road but no problem with some occasional smooth gravel road. I ride mostly on paved twisties, though sometimes bumpy, but the pleasure off road capabilities is sure tempting. There is some tricky suspension magic going on with the SAS so on bumpy tarmac road it could be a contender for the GT with a tad longer and slightly fancier suspension. But for fast sporty riding I still think the GTs with its adequate suspension travel combined with engine and chassis will win even when tarmac is a bit on the bumpy side. I have lots of gravel roads near by and paved twisties. So I'm still undecided but I'm pretty sure it will be KTM :-) The ratio between performance/price is very good me think. Decisions.... :-D

I don't know why I just have a bad feeling about this motorcycle the KTM 1290 Super Duke I mean I just have a feeling the quality sucks you're going to have a lot of problems with this motorcycle KTMs have a reputation for being garbage I want to like it for the performance but I'm not a motorcycle mechanic LOL Japanese bikes are bulletproof I just wish they would make one that's as exciting as this bike.
