    Me: So what's new?
Sony: We have a flip-out screen.
Me: Didn't you have that on A6400?
    Sony: We have Ibis.
Me: You mean the one from A6500 (the one that barely does anything)?
Sony: We have a bigger battery.
Me: You want to tell me you could put a bigger battery anytime you wanted, and still you let me learn 8 battery juggle.
Sony: We removed pop up flash.
    Me: What flash?
Sony: And all that for just 1400$
Me: So generally 500$ more for a bigger battery?
Sony: And that`s not all, look at this beautiful 16-55 f2.8 same price as the camera :)
Me: You do actually know I can buy 2 full-frame primes and a full-frame zoom for less money?
Sony: But it`s all brand new!
Me: So was I but back in 1975.

For newbuyers A6600 makes sense. I suspect no one will do upgrade to A6600 from A6500 or even from A6400. Sony lost a lot of revenue here, by not including 4K 60fps and 10 bit and not upgrading sensor to 32/36 mpix. 100mpbs/s bitrate is kind of old for 2019.

  • @phaselead_dj
    @phaselead_dj Před 4 lety +6

Kai, thanks for sharing. I was waiting for A6600 and some new lenses and your vid greatly helped!
IMO, still APS-Cs from Sony is less appealing than its Full Frames.
When MFTs from Panasonic is compred to FFs from Sony, there are really good pros like 4k60p, 10bit, FHD 180p, crazy IBIS, unlimited recording, the best screen & EVF, and etc by loosing AF, shallow DOF and low light performance.
However, when u get Sony's APS-Cs rather than its FFs, you don't get much. The flippy screen, unlimited recording, slightly better AF. Yeah these are good, but definitely not enough.
The price isn't good as well since A7M3 is now a bargain and there are many great budget lense options for FFs whereas u have few good budget options for APS-C. 🤔

So little difference, why not just release one or two bodies not three. Why were these held back and not released with the 6400? The lenses are priced out of the market and the body is far behind the xt3. The 2.8 zoom and the 6400 is the same price as the a7iii and the Tamron 2.8 zoom, which is insane! The 6600 should have been the only one released, not the 6400 or the 6100, and the 6600 should have been $1000-1200 at most. And then bump the 6500 down to 799 and the 6300 down to 599. @@MrMysterybox If a camera falls it's usually to the lens-side of the camera, where a "side flippy" is placed, often not durable enough to withstand the impact will often break, has been a reported problem. Increasing the camera's width with something so flimsy but necessary increases its vulnerability. Increasing its height is less of an issue, assists with a sturdier bracket and requiring a $20 hot shoe adapter or more expensive cage (which if doing video people may opt for as taking selfies doesn't require a mic) is hardly an inconvenience.

Nice review dude. As always. Some nice small incremental upgrades... looks like they kept it at same point as current A6500. A shame there was nothing revolutionary about it. after nearly 3 years. The lenses look interesting also but expensive and no OSS on the 16-55 means its a fail for videographers. I will see how reports come back but as many other people have said in the comments, not sure its worth upgrading my a6500 - I already have several batteries now anyhow.

The a6600 imo, definitely makes the a6400 a more appealing camera. The battery life in the a6400 is a huge improvement over the a6300 and a6500 with the same battery. And if you use a tripod and gimbal reguarly, than IBIS isn't really that necessary. Not to mention, the IBIS on the a6500 is nothing to write home about. Just something to cater to the non-IS 16-55/2.8.

I’m a Nikon guy using before a used Sony a6300 APS-C camera with only a pancake lens. It’s my preferred go-getter camera I bring as test and preview of my construction projects. I like it’s sturdy sleek and minimalist body design I can pack on any bag - not bulky like my Nikons I secure in camera bags. For me, the longer lasting battery of the a6600 was a huge plus factor to get one and give away my a6300 body along with its battery grip - retaining only the pancake lens. I’m not so concerned with the imaging features considering I have my Nikons.
