I think Samantha sees herself in Maddy when she was younger, that's really it. She also most definitely knows Maddy tries on her clothes, but she doesn't care, because again, she relates to what Maddy is doing/thinking back when she was younger.
Younger ppl dont understand how much older ppl like being with them..
That also makes a lot more sense considering her tolerance with all that. She probably does see a bit of her younger self in Maddy and feels more compassionate towards her in that way. Maybe a lot of us could be misinterpreting her behaviors as flirting when that could just be a friendly personality trait, but maybe she just wanted a close female friend like a “younger sister” around her since she mainly only has her husband and son at home. Like it’s too soon to know for sure.

According to the actress who played Samantha, she's supposed to just be a mentor figure for Maddy. And has no idea why she's gettung sexualized on screen, they're not supposed to have this tension and people are thinking its because of the directors.

The euphoria writers know a lot about the target demographic for Euphoria, which is hormonal young people, and sadly i know a lot of hormonal young people who have a thing for older female characters. My guess is they saw the amount of people making Mommy and MILF jokes on twitter and tiktok and took the chance in order to attract that type of viewer. I think it's kinda horrible and fucked up if it's true, but we all know how far writers are willing to go for audience points and it's a plausible theory

I feel like Samantha just let’s Maddy wear her clothes even though she watches it through her hidden camera because if she wanted to report or fire her, she would’ve done it a long time ago. She just knows it and informs Maddy whenever she’s getting back home. Plus, she seems genuinely kind to her in their interactions. But we feel odd vibes about her and idk if it’s in a good or a bad way, but it definitely shows there’s something more. I can’t wait for her side of the story to unravel.

From what we’ve seen of her character Samantha probably just gets a kick and a laugh out of this teenager trying on her designer clothes, because what teenage girl who lives for fashion wouldn’t do that if given the chance. Obviously she watches to make sure Maddy doesn’t steal anything but if Maddy doesn’t and she does her job well there’s no need to fire her.
Maybe that’s also why she offered Maddy to go for a swim and drink because she could tell that Maddy was down when normally when she would try clothes. She would be happy and into the moment

This is what solidified my opinion of how much Maddy genuinely cares and cared for Cassie because the last thing she asked was, "Did you and your friend make up?" Which leads me to believe that she might want her former friend back. But she knows that she can't trust Cassie anymore, so instead of wanting to hurt Cassie, Maddy might really want to know why Cassie did it and what was she thinking. :) 💯🤦♀️

Foreshadowing: Theo tells Maddy: He loves demons and when she sleeps they are going to steal her heart...Later when Maddy is getting ready for bed Nate assaults her. This season has been heavy on the foreshadowing.
And he literally takes that Heart shaped necklace which he gave Maddie for her birthday and gave it to Cassie.

@@yasminyousuf Sure. Maddie is in an on and off again relationship with Nate, mostly on. Maddie is best friends with Cass. Cass got an abortion and was then basically ghosted. While they were off, Nate decided to go to a liquor store that Cass was sitting outside of in a depressed state. Nate gave her the right amount of attention as the mother in this clip puts it and they hook up which leads to a secret relationship. This explanation to the hook up and comparison to the mother is later emphasized by her argument with her sister after Cass’s attempted suicide, there was no valid reason in her sister’s mind for Cass to be with Nate, she’s known him her whole life and was never into him. Along with the right amount of attention at the wrong time, Cass also has abandonment and daddy issues, so do with that as you may. It should also be noted that no one is aware of the pregnancy/abortion except for Cass, her ex-boyfriend and maybe her family (def the mom, maybe on the sister)
Tl:dr - The mom’s story is, from a cinematic viewpoint, a form of foreshadowing. She slept with her best friends boyfriend. Cassie slept with Maddie’s (her best friend) boyfriend. The outcome of the mother’s situation was no longer being friends with her best friend. The foreshadowed outcome of this show is that Maddie (best friend) is no longer friends with Cass (mother).
I kinda hope Samantha isn't relevant to any wicked plot twists like some lunatics are thinking, it's just nice to have a character who's there for this kind of support

"Did you and your friend ever make up?" I don't know why but Maddy asking this question gives me the feeling that deep down she really wants to make up with Cassie. Or at least willing to hear her out(maybe beat her up first.). This is supported by when she asked Cassie to give her a reason why she did it with Nate and if she (Cassie) wanted to throw the friendship away. The balls is in Maddy"s court and has the upper hand on both the relationship with Nate and Cassie, so she gets to choose what she wants to do. This plus the ending of ep 7 I am wondering what will happen with Maddy and Cassie?

1) If they're on-off rather than technically off, then Maddy was still dating him. And even if that wasn't the case, Cassie was still hooking up with a guy who abused Maddy AND disrespected Cassie for years.
2) THAT SAID, people are using this to justify OTT vitriol against Cassie. If Cassie was to fuck others' boyfriends with absolutely no remorse, and be on the same energy Maddy was on, nobody would have anything to say.

Minka Kelly plays a really good character on Friday Night Lights too, if you haven’t watched that one yet
see that was the difference between cassie and maddy. maddy is strong enough bc most of the people in her life genuinely cares about her, even her parents (when her mom was depressed abt how nate abused her and actually wanted to take legal actions). while cassie only has her mom who is almost always drunk and watched her leave the house with nate.

I do think Lexi cares for her , but she is not showing it, and Cassie is not feeling it for anyone in her family rn. They are kind of treating her pain as a joke. The difference is no one is getting on her level and really talking to her humanizing her the way the lady in the pool is with Maddie here.

For me, it's not like that. Both actually still have working support system. That includes their friends.
The most jarring difference is their level of self worth and confidence.
Maddy still has her confidence and strong personality, able to stand up against Nate when she didn't like something. Maddy wants attention.
But Cassie has very low confidence that she's willing to give 'everything' to Nate. Cassie wants ideal relationship, which definition can be detached from reality. And everytime something doesn't go her way in her relationship with Nate, she will use emotional manipulation -- crying, self-harm, breakdown, victim complex, etc. Lexi is clearly still care but already fed up to some degree.
How do I know? My mom is Cassie.

I think that the reason why they're showing us Samantha having done the same thing as Cassie is for us to realise that Cassie was coming from a place of heartbreak and low self esteem. This allowed her to be abused by Nate (although she isn't innocent regarding Maddie.)
How is Cassie being abused by Nate? The word “abuse” is thrown around too loosely. Cassie is choosing to follow him around and is constantly chasing after him. Even though you said she isn’t innocent you still tried to make cassie a victim when she is just a bad person.

I love that they made Samantha a likeable character & then had her reveal this about her past. It could’ve destroyed her likability & her relationship with Maddy but instead it just demonstrated that good people make mistakes & lose things like good relationships with good friends but regardless there’s still room for grace and growth. & that eventually everything will turn out okay & you can start over regardless of what you may regret doing in the past. This a true down to earth mature conversation between two ladies, who both have had others hating, this in terms of deep understanding with one another, is so relatable.
Samantha has such bad advice. A messy life can ruin you no matter what age.
I think she meant that Maddy is just too young to believe that her "brain is just wired that way", which is true. A lot of teenagers who go through abuse where they believe themselves to be complicit (Maddy went back to Nate, wanted to go back to him, committed a crime for him when lying to the police) convince themselves that it's all they're good for and that life will never get better. In fact, most teenagers feel this way about any hardship in their life, that it will never change because high school is all that matters. But the truth it, that they're kids, and their life hasn't even actually begun yet. That's why Samantha said that it would only be a problem if she was still dating guys like Nate in adulthood.
She probably doesn’t know about nate’s extreme abuse towards her, just that he’s an asshole and cheater. But other than that she’s right, maddy needs to learn how to make her own decisions on her own. Life won’t always be this way.

i always found it heartbreaking that Maddie asked if she ever spoke to her friend again. it really shows just how much it's not about Nate but more so about her losing Cassie as a best friend, and was wondering if with time they could mend that fence.
Samantha is literally like a mom or a mentor to Maddy. It's like whenever Maddy has a problem, especially how hurt she was after finding out about Nate and Cassie, Samantha is always there for her.

Maddie and Cassie's case happened to my friend but minus the sleeping thing. The boy has been gaslighting her, telling her that she is suffocating for asking his whereabouts cause that boy has not been talking to his mother who is abroad. She called it quits because it was tiring dealing with such an attitude. The other girl was her classmate and a friend who witnessed all the cries, drama, and how the guy tried to win back my friend. She saw it all. But a while after the breakup, they are seen in most places together. The boy and the other friend, yes. My friend got herself out of feeling bad about what they did but I'm still fuming mad. People would say, "It's not like they cheated." Yeah, just betrayed her, I guess. The fact that she choose to be with him despite her knowing what happened just invalidated my friend's suffering. It's not about them being together. It's about losing a friend because of this toxic guy.

Nah I think Maddy will be wealthy and fashionable and live a fabulous life once she lets go of her toxic high school life. Cassie will end up knocked and miserable like Nate’s mom. I guarantee it. Maddy needs to forgive Cassie for herself, so she can move on. Fuck Nate. Russian Roulette with a pistol was closure enough. Nate and Cassie will repeat Cal and Nate’s mom Vicki’s cycle. Nate tried to distance himself from his father to not become him but he is wayyy worse than his father. Nate’s mom is trash and her making statements about Maddy being the one who would get knocked up and keep it to spite him…she has it backwards. That is what Cassie would do. Cassie is emotionally unstable and is obsessed with Nate. McKay already convinced her to have an abortion (which all of this could be the product of that). I guarantee she wouldn’t let Nate convince her to do the same. She would keep it to spite him and feel closer to him. I hope the writers don’t let us down and actually finishes up story/character arcs. They have so much potential with this season

I really appreciate Samantha in this scene. She acknowledges what happened with Cassie and Nate is horrible to Maddy, and admits she did it herself. Doesn’t offer excuses for why she did it, but provides context of what caused her to make that decision and still takes responsibility for it being a stupid and horrible thing to do. She and her friend never spoke again and both moved on. I appreciate that she didn’t try to get Maddy to have empathy for Cassie or herself and acknowledges that she and her friend never spoke again because of her actions. She just looks back on her younger self and basically laughs almost in awe of how naive and messy she was. But now she’s moved on to a wonderful man, found her self worth and is living in a gorgeous house with her kid, and I assume her former friend did the same. At the end of the day the shitty guy was tossed to the side and wasn’t worth it, which in this case would apply to both Maddy and Cassie even if they never make up. While what Cassie did was stupid and horrible, I genuinely hope she moves on from this experience and finds her self worth, finds the love the deserves and grows as a person. And I hope Maddy can grow from this experience and not let a toxic and abusive high school relationship define her, while finding the love she deserves as well. At the end of the day, the guy just wasn’t worth it.

I was like this in my early 20s I was MESSY always picked the wrong men was selfishly disgusting and so self centred I didn't care who I hurt just as long as I never let anyone hurt me more. I met a guy who was so far out of my type until I realised my type had brought me nothing but crap so I gave him a chance and 13 years later were still together I've healed ALOT of myself forgave myself and started to care about who I wanted to truly be for me and the people around me.

I hate when people say cassie is a bad friend, cause cassie isnt a bad friend. she instantly regretted having sex with nate when she heard maddy knock she literally said “we shouldn’t have done this” and she also stated multiple times that her and nate were a mistake, but she couldn’t help to keep hooking up with him because of the need she has of male validation. her dad never gave her as much attention as she needed, so that’s why. and plus when Nate asked cassie for a ride in season 2 ep 1 , where it all started, cassie was literally drunk. what would u do if u were left on the road, nowhere to go + ur drunk and a guy whose hot in ur eyes from ur school asks if u want a ride? obv u’d want a ride to the party instead of staying left on the road. nate also drives extremely fast on purpose, to make Cassie her skirt fly up. that’s when Cassie felt attracted to him, and u can’t control that. im not saying it’s good what Cassie did, because I feel bad for maddy, but cass is actually nicer than maddy, although I love maddy. Cassie is a good person, she just makes the wrong choices.

It’s obvious that samantha sees herself in maddy. but what i think she is trying to prove is that if she (a person that maddy liked and still likes even after finding out what she did when she was younger) is able to become a better person and grow as a person cassie is able to do the same. i think it’s foreshadowing character development for cassie not so much maddy but maddy’s RELATIONSHIP with cassie. it shows that (hopefully this happens bc i’m rooting for this friendship and both of these amazing fictional women) cassie will eventually realize that she was used . cassie obviously is having trouble figuring out who she is, coping with her thoughts, and trying to figure out why she is the way she is. i just think she is blinded by the attention nate gave her. he didn’t deserve either of them. i really hope their friendship and cassie in general, get redemption arcs.
Samantha explained how Cassie is right now. Cassies a mess and I feel like Maddy is realizing it hence why she doesn’t want to hurt her, she wants to make up with her. I feel like maddy wants to help Cassie get out of it but Cassie is too scared bc she’s in too deep. We also have to remember that this is Nate shes with. She’s being manipulated right now and god knows if she’s being abused while living with Nate. This scene is so underrated!! I loved this interaction so much and I feel like people dont give Maddy enough credit. She’s a really good person and she only fights when she feels she’s been wronged (even during cassie’s flashback of maddy beating up kids in school, there was always a reason behind it and not just bullying). Granted that her only flaw is being in love with Nate but just what like Samantha said, she’s 18. Who gives a shit about that when youre in highschool.
