Lainz in Wien

Lainz is part of Vienna's 13th district, Hietzing . The place, now only a cadastral community in the land registry , was its own suburban community of Vienna until 1891.
The historic town of Lainz consisted of a few farms on the Lainzer Sattel , the passage between the Vienna Woods and Küniglberg along Lainzer Straße. This led to the nearby neighboring villages of Unter-St.-Veit in the north and Speising in the south. The area belonging to the village of Lainz was hardly larger than a kilometer in diameter. Today the Lainzerbach only runs underground as a stream channel through the district.
