- Our alpha patron Gail has decided that her album of the month will be the self titled "Crosby, Stills & Nash" and this is part one of three! The songs covered here are "Shadow Captain", "See the Changes", "Carried Away", and "Fair Game". Such a different side of this band... I didn't even know this album existed until today. This feels like some experimentation from them and I am totally here for it. Thank you Gail.
If you are watching day of premiere this the 2nd anniversary of the channel! I can't believe how far we've come! Except for today, sorry, the audio was a little off. I had my mic plugged in but I guess the camera didn't register it. It happens like twice a month lol my apologies.

On the second side is one of the greatest CSN songs ever. It shares the name with a Grateful Dead song that is 100% different.
Dark Star.
People get hung up on labels. Good music defines itself, especially with a group this diverse.
Oh, this album is some really nice stuff! Very positively reviewed and accepted at the time, still their younger selves doing the mid seventies thing. Some very strong songs here from all three guys! Eager to get your reaction. :)
This entire album is excellent! Possibly my favorite from them.. "Just A Song Before I Go", was the hit from this LP. "Dark Star", "See the Changes", and "Cathedral", are my favorites. Thanks..
To me, it really is a tie between "Deja Vu" and this album! Been through multiple copies of both on LP, as well as other formats!
@MissAstorDancer Yeah.. Deja Vu is better, but of course it has Neil. The CSN album with Southern Cross on it, is excellent also..
The calypso sound of Stephen Stills playing lead on the song fair game is out of this world! One of my favorite songs
I learned a lot from this record back when I was 17 and a novice to the game. Now I'm 53 and the lyrics mean more than they ever did.
Happy 2nd Anniversary! The harmonies are still incredible, the songs are great.
Top album by this trio, proud to own my vinyl copy.
I had this album back in the day. Haven't heard those songs in decades. Was good to hear them again. Saw them in concert in the 70s.
Just relax, enjoy the ride. Bought this album when it came out. Got it on CD now. Dark Star and Just a song before I go coming up, can't wait.
Graham Nash's solo albums Songs For Beginners and Wild Tales are great albums as well as Stephen Stills album Manassas. All three albums feature a variety of well known artists as session players. Even when CSN/Y weren't doing their albums together they played and sang on each others solo albums on various songs.
The guys on the yacht are a long way from the guys on the couch on the porch. A rocket of talent
Cool and accurate observation!!!
I’ve been a big Crosby stills Nash fan as far as I can remember. I seen this tour in 1977. Unbelievable! When I bought this album it took me some time for it to grow on me, but I find this Album one of their finest. They have so many. Too many favorites. Congratulations Lee on your anniversary. I love the content of your channel and your reviews are fantastic. Much success to you brother
Thanks, I've haven't heard this album in a couple decades. I played it a lot at the time.
Man, I played the hell outta this album
This is a Great album!! As a long time bass player this is one of my hundreds of go to music selections.
I’m sure I had this album at some point in my younger life. Full, rich sound here thanks to the better recording technology at that time. CSNY never fails to deliver on those harmonies. Thanks Gail.
I bought this album when it was brand new. At first I didn't like it too much in that much of it didn't sound like the CSN I knew from before. Over the years, and many listens later, I came to embrace many of the songs thereon, especially: Southern Cross, Dark Star and Shadow Captain.
Almost at 20k for your anniversary 🎂🎊🎉
A great album. I listen to it at least every other week when I need a bit of CSN (Y) along with their other albums, of course. CSN puts me in tranquil bliss of memories.
I could listen to Stills play guitar all day.
Can’t wait to hear I give you give blind! You are going to love this song!
This was a great album ❤❤ I played the hell out of it. 👍
Just read Joe Vitale's book. Good read. He worked a LOT with Joe Walsh as well as CSNY.
This album title is CSN, their first album from 1969 was the self-titled Crosby, Stills & Nash. Confusing eh?
Recorded a criteria recording studio in North Miami, Florida, which also owned a house which you can see on the cover of 461 Ocean Blvd. however there never was an actual 461 number the polyrhythms that Stephen Stills used for classic you should certainly check out Manassas
I think you would love Stephen Stills' first solo album from 1970. Some of his very best songs are on it.
I hope you'll find the time to react to "Ptolemy" by Blue Murder sometime!
I'm about to turn 59 in July.
Looking back, I've come to realize how confusing my life was when i was your age.
I have finally discovered after all this time: What Really Matters.
It's not something you can teach or learn.
It is something you have to Experience within Yourself.
I do have regrets for some of the things I've done in the past,
But i can't dwell on them anymore,
Nor can i change them.
To realize: What's Important is to realize what Life is all about in the first place.
Some never find that out,
Which is sad.
I'm glad at age 58 I have.
I hope it doesn't take you as long,
But when you finally Know,
There is no Unknowing.
May peace and love be with you always.
Thank you so much such memories! .
If you didn’t know about this album, I’m wondering if you know about the album American Dream which is a CSNY album, it was released on 11/1/1988. Give It listen.
Wait till you get to the second side with Cathedral and Just a Song Before I Go!
Joe Vitale was a longtime collaborator of Joe Walsh. Stills was an army brat and spent part of his youth in Central America, so those latin rhythms show up from time to time.
Congrats and Happy Anniversary! 🎂
Thank you, my friend! I appreciate you 🙏🙏
Craig Doerge played keys for Grand Funk Railroad, too.
Dude, your thirties will be so good to you. All the angst, of your twenties, for some reason seems to roll off your back alot easier...not saying life won't throw some shit your way, but shit rolls down hill a lot easier. ❤✌️
I sure hope so brother. I can't take another 20s. That was rough. Lol
@@L33Reacts ✌️
your mic sounds distorted, kind of raspy
Your microphone is overdriven, Lee. Just eek the gain down a hair...second thought, make that a "tad"...
I was 44 when you were born 😆
Isn't that something. .. lol. I'm an old soul what can I say.
A great song Jimmy Buffet
????
Jimmy Buffet wrote that song, just got sidelined while typing that🤣
@@user-tb9dx9mg2n - Which song are you referring to?
@@MissAstorDancer Southern Cross was written by Jimmy Buffet
@@user-tb9dx9mg2n - The internet/Wikipedia can be your friends.
"Songwriter(s) - Stephen Stills - Rick Curtis - Michael Curtis"
""Southern Cross" is based on the song "Seven League Boots" by Rick and Michael Curtis.[3][4][5] Stills explained, "The Curtis Brothers brought a wonderful song called 'Seven League Boots,' but it drifted around too much. I rewrote a new set of words and added a different chorus, a story about a long boat trip I took after my divorce. It's about using the power of the universe to heal your wounds. Once again, I was given somebody's gem and cut and polished it.""
Yes, Jimmy Buffett covered the song, and performed it OFTEN in his concerts, but he did NOT compose it.
