Had the great privilege of seeing them live in a private concert at a trade show in San Diego years ago. Stills said, "If you had told me, when we were playing Woodstock, that one day we'd be playing a concert for old people at a pharmaceutical trade show, I'd never have guessed it." Entire audience went absolutely insane! It was one of the greatest concerts I've ever seen!

They were later joined by Neil Young ( you loved his song Old Man a little while back ) who added an extra layer to the harmonies. The finest band ever. I recently watched on CZcams a Documentary on how they first met. They immediately connected. I lived in Southern California for a short time, 20 years and had the opportunity to work on a home in Laurel Canyon. It was an amazing band, growing up myself in the 60's I got to hear the bands on a little red hand held transistor radio. The radio itself was something that was new technology and amazing for a 10 year old to have. I think I grew up just a few years to late because I wasn't able to go to Woodstock, I was 11 and my parents never understood Rock and Roll. Just the same I can remember where I was when I heard the Rolling Stones for the first time playing Lady Jane 1966 (The Ed Sullivan Show) I was 8 years old. Sullivan

Graham Nash, whose harmony style influenced me throughout the almost 60 years I spent as a musician. Cannot be replicated. Always remembered.. Thank you.

Right, the story, as I recall, was Stephen and David were singing a tune, and Graham asked them to do it once more, and the 3rd time inserted his perfect harmony into the song. Those guys were wizards.

Those three set the standard for harmony in the late 60s and 70s. I'd strongly recommend you listen to a cover by Home Free, an a cappella group of more recent vintage. Takes this to another level.

Beautiful song and brilliant lyrics. I bought their first album when I was 16. I played it over and over until I nearly wore it out. Songs have a way of surfacing so many memories. 🩷
I was in college in the summer of 1969 and every day I would play this album. It is still one of my life’s favorites. This entire album is gold. And yes, it is about the insanely good harmonies. For some reason unknown to me, harmony in popular music has gone out of fashion. But in the 60’s and 70’s it was respected and desired. Huge groups like the Eagles, CSN, CSNY, The Byrds, The Beachboys, Simon and Garfunkel, The Beatles, The Everly Brothers and many more , the harmonies were exquisite. I wish there some current groups in mainstream pop that carried on this tradition. There are a cappella groups that have gorgeous harmonies but they are not mainstream.

I’m glad you have discovered Crosby, Stills and Nash. Their harmonies were wonderful as were the lyrics to their songs. Even after all these years their music still captures my heart. I graduated from HS in 1965. Went to college for two years and enlisted in the Marine Corps in ‘67 and arrived in VeetNam during Tet. Our generation had such great music whether Soul or R&B. It’s hard to believe the country was in flames from on coast to the other over Civil Rights and later the Vietnam War and there were thousands of people marching in protest in the streets. In that time, this was the group that re-popularized "wooden music" - acoustics. Campfire music. Stephen Stills is the voice delivering the first line of the chorus, "They are one person..." then David Crosby and Graham Nash is the third. Graham will often carry the High Harmonies, although Crosby does, too. If you find the Graham Nash-David Crosby albums, you'll enjoy the 2-man harmonies although some of those are double-tracked.

Having read each member's biography (+ Neil Young's), I believe they survived all the tragedies and conflicts because CSN(Y) was greater than the sum of its parts.

songs so good they can make you cry......no new songs can do that but the ones form the late 50s to 90s can......then the music and poetry died.
