I make candles and I use essential oils for the scent, and people keep asking me what they do. And I'm like, "it's a candle." And they ask what the health benefits are, and I'm like "It's a candle, not medicine!" Then they ask if it's organic non-GMO soywax and organic essential oils. And I'm like, "are you planning on EATING the candles???"

@@rolfs2165 depends on the state/country. Some places have more stringent control and laws regarding chiropractors and that controls what they can do or can't do. In my state chiropractors can write limited prescriptions and such. So it really depends. (I am not a believer of chiropractics but that is how it is)

What's sick is say she has a bad diet or an infection, but Gwen says "use from my line some crystals, meditate and shove this device inside" as the solution. She's not just saying I believe your complaints, I validate you, but I empower you to treat it yourself... with my greedy pseudoscience/healthcare.

My favorite still has to be when NASA engineers called them out. Goop was selling literal stickers for $150 that were supposed to alter the "flow of energy" around and throughout the body. They were supposedly made of the same "carbon material that lines the space suits worn by astronauts." The engineers let the cat out of the bag and revealed that there was no such carbon lining in existence.😅 Goop literally made it up to sell a sheet of $0.05 stickers for $150. Tells you all you need to know about this company.

I understand that people are fed up with the way that patients get treated like numbers rather than individuals. Hell, I'm a medical student and see it from both angles (i.e. patients being angry that their doctors aren't really listening to them and doctors being angry that the executives don't allow us to take our time with patients to cover everything.) In certain places doctors, PAs and NPs are being treated like numbers as well. But that's no reason to throw out evidence based treatments.

Netflix has many such questionable shows, especially the ones about diet. There is so much bullshit nowadays going around on diet. And everybody thinks they are some diet experts and have to tell people. There is some true and good stuff, but that is often mixed with some major bullshit. The problem with that is that they discredit themselves with that, even if their core message isn't wrong.

The sad reality behind goop and all of these “wellness” companies is that there is a large market of women who have been ignored by doctors and are desperate for treatments.
Ignored by doctors for what? Surely, if it's legitimate (even "just" psychologically speaking) it should be detectable and, hopefully, treatable. Doctors chocking things up to age, lack of exercise, poor diet, "stop doing what makes it hurt", etc. is not typically gendered.

Women of color are often denied pain meds or given less than the recommended amount because some doctors believe that they're "tougher." Many black people experience doctors jabbing them extra hard with needles because some doctors believe that black skin is "harder to get through." Many people who were assigned female at birth have their disabling chronic pain minimized because some doctors believe they're "being dramatic." Trans people have many of their issues incorrectly traced to steps they're taking in their medical transition (ie "you're depressed because you're on oestrogen" "you're addicted to sex because you're taking testosterone" (the latter statement being one that I've actually gotten)) because some doctors believe that medical transition is more harmful than helpful. Many trans people are denied the ability to remove their reproductive organs or have to fight with their doctors and insurance to make it happen because some people believe that not choosing to lose your ability to have biological children means you're crazy. Many people who are assigned male at birth don't have their mental health issues taken seriously unless they get violent because some doctors believe that AMAB people don't experience mental health issues. Many people experiencing or recovering from abusive parents have their depression and anxiety taken out of contact of their abuse and completely mistreated because some doctors don't believe that abuse causes long-lasting mental health issues. People in emotionally abusive situations often receive little to no help when they reach out to their doctors because most people believe that abuse is only physical and sexual. Sex-repulsed people are pushed to believe they're mentally ill for not wanting to have sex because most doctors believe that you can only be healthy if you have sex. People who are muscular and fat at the same time are pushed to lose weight despite their healthy exercise and eating habits because most doctors think that being fat is the worst thing you could ever be and don't look past what they see. People who are fat are pushed to lose copious amounts of weight in unhealthy amounts of time because, once again, most doctors believe that being fat is the worst thing you could ever be (when I was a kid, I was constantly being pressured by my doctor to lose weight by dieting... even though she knew my family was living off of foodstamps (most of which went toward getting formula for my infant brother) and we couldn't afford healthy food. It wasn't possible for me to lose weight without basically starving myself, and she knew that). LGBTQ people often have to teach their doctors about their genders and orientations because doctors aren't required to know how to treat queer people respectfully. And that is nowhere near an exhaustive list.
Society is a bigoted place filled with bigoted people. Every single group has stereotypes put onto them, and they all effect the way that person is treated in in regards to their healthcare. Not believing in healthcare discrimination is a slap to the face of every single person who has ever gone through unneeded pain, suffering, and bigotry because their doctors decided that the stereotypes they believed in were more accurate than someone's lived experiences. It is very safe to say that not believing in healthcare discrimination is the same as bigotry, it is the denial of bigotry that minorities face. Active denial has the same results as perpetuation.

I feel like that whole company is for LA's rich mommies, who want to be cool and mystical but are being scammed.

Netflix needs a like and dislike function on every episode so they know people's opinions instead of video hits and runtime.
They don’t actually care, you are watching it either way. If you decided to take part of your time in watching it, even if you hated it, the program is still doing its job and your opinion is a less important information they can afford to ignore. And if Netflix knows you hate it so much that you would see more chapters to hate on it, they would do more chapters.

Yeah, I'm tired of people painting Goop customers as victims who are simply being mislead. That store is hella expensive; everything is available for a fraction of the cost elsewhere. So no one shops there who isn't formally educated and incredibly well-off. The real problems that most GOOP enthusiasts have can be boiled down to: too much time, too much money, and an irrational desire to emulate Goopy Paltrow. While they're "seeking solutions", why not put more energy into helping those less fortunate? It will be a distraction from "me, me, me", anyway.
GP can easily be considered a sociopath (as many CEO's are). She runs the company, promotes it and does not care about people that are harmed. She laughs about not knowing what products they use. She doesn't care that many of their customers are the uneducated & gullible. Many are probably young girls. Thank you for pointing that that many customers are desperate and vulnerable.
I really hope the Netflix show reveals the truth and shits on Goop. To me it's horrifying that people are using their products. Just look on YT! There are several you tubers who had Goop's smoothies and got sick from them. It baffles me that GP hasn't been prosecuted. I just don't get it.

What I also find odd, apart from everything you've mentioned already, is that she claims to promote health and well-being and yet the price point of her products its absurd. She also called Goop a "lifestyle" brand. In my opinion, health is not a lifestyle. If she was sincere about her claims of being interested in health-promotion, her products would be affordable for everyone. She either purposely caters only to that specific target group and doesn't even care about the integrity products in the first place or she is WILDLY out of touch with reality. I'm inclined to believe both. But essentially what she says with these products is that if you really want to live a good quality content life, you must have a lotta money.

The thing I hate about Goop and so many companies like Goop is that they prey on the vulnerable. Unwell and desperate people will turn to these kind of products as a hope for a solution and not only will they likely experience little to no change, they'll probably be out of pocket a ton of money. I have back pains and I once got massaged by one of those "very healthy" "no chemicals" "and not at all alergic" massage holistic oils... my back was like on fire... really, i thought they poured boiling water on me. i had a huge alergic reaction and i had to scream at them to clean it off. Funny thing is i was 30 at the time an never had a skin alergy in my life... that was when i learned the lesson about this subject.
Anybody claiming to know all, to have a solution for everything, to know exactly what's wrong with you, actually knows nothing.
It's the doctors who are willing to admit they're unsure, that you should trust, because they're not lying to you.
So, Goop is a store that are selling overpriced placebo (mostly) for women.
Men have Supreme for that, but at least Supreme didn't cause medical harm.
I remember Colbert initially mocking Goop, only to eventually invite Paltrow over a couple of times to light-heartedly joke WITH her and basically validating her and her products. I was so disappointed.

netflix use to have a really good rating system, i would skip videos that had a lower rating, they got rid of it. if people saw the rating it would do worse, but now its just a thumbs up or down, and i dont even think others can see it, so yeah, that sucks

I’ve heard that she’s not that nice of a person. I also heard that she didn’t treat Scarlett Johansson very well while they did the Avengers movies. She kind of like snubbed her and acted like she was better than her.

The only positive thing I got from the goop lab was Wim “iceman” Hof. The memes about him were awesome. Also Jontron’s skit after goop employees smoked a small roll of psychedelic mushrooms, he took a huge paper blunt, lit the end on fire, inhaled, and coughed out “spirit of the mushroom yeah!”
You do a very job of articulating it all. If you decide to watch the Netflix show, I know I’ll just watch your video instead and won’t be curious enough to check it out for real on Netflix.
