I have not experienced ABC until the purchase of my 2009 SL550 last year. It is absolutely incredible! I test it on windy roads and inclines, and it does not cease to amaze me how level and smooth the car rides. I take corners sharper than I ever have, and have confidence on every curve. I keep mine on "Sport" most of the time, and am happy with that. Highly recommended option and almost a necessity!
+Joseph Anthony where do you get those. can you help me with the supplier
+Paresh Adavani You need to buy it with the car as it is an integrated system. I do not think it is something that can be added to your car.
The ABC suspension is nothing short of amazing! Taking a on ramp sharp curve on the highway going 70mph and still being level is crazy! This system actually helps you drive better! If I mention the distronic cruise control and what it does you people would lose your mind...😜
Hi I saw the word smooth , mine is very stiff specially in the back . Is that not how it's suppose to be ??? That's in comfort mode . Thank you .
sputnik I would have it checked to see if the previous owner didn’t change them out because they are expensive to replace. He might have put some lower quality shocks on the back. also check the tires. A hard sidewall tire on lower profile tires can give you a hard ride. Just remember level and stability isn’t equivalent to soft or smooth. Put you some Michelin’s on there and go back to OEM size tires with a middle number of 40 or better
Well done. An informative video without irritating needless background music !
Looking forward to collecting my SL500 next week
The ABC suspension is brilliant! However, if you buy a used Mercedes with this system prepare to replace some of the components around 60,000 miles or 100,000 km. These include the tandem pump, accumulators and pulsation damper. Be sure to change the hydraulic fluid and filter every couple of years regardless of what the dealer says. Make sure the area around the power steering and ABC dipsticks are spotless. Dirt kills ABC components! The upper notch = engine off & lower notch = engine running. Driving after the red warning light indicates "car too low" can cause the tandem pump to burn out and contaminate the whole system = disaster! Pull over safely, turn off the engine and have the car flat-bedded to the mechanic. Only replace parts with new MB ones as rebuilt pumps can fail and its very expensive to install. Conclusion: Buy a 12 year old used ABC equipped Merc (preferably an AMG) for less than $30,000, add $5-10,000 in repairs and you'll have a 500 hp rocket ship for about $35,000. p.s ABC systems contain O-rings that lose their integrity if the car isn't driven regularly. Letting the car sit for months on end is courting disaster. (Also, the pump needs to be primed before the vehicle is started.)
how is the maintenance compared to the air suspension?
@@BeeTee69I have an 07 s65 and the airmatic struts fail more often, but the service on the abc is more expensive, I feel it’s worth every penny but nothing about the car is cheap
That's pretty amazing!
well ABC should be a standard equipment on every car, Bose suspensions did it many many years ago and I was amazed ...sadly I never saw this in real action but I bet I would be amazed, I live in Greece after all, the "King country of Bumps"(TM)
Imagine getting one sensor replaced 😂😂
Was thinking the same. Here Sir have my thumb up!
👍👍👍👍👍
"That doesn't come from compromise...it takes action"
Something Malcolm X would say.
Holy goodness
i think active suspension was inveted by Williams Renault F1, and it took a year to get it right, this is the reason N Mansell was WC in 1992, not 1991, unless this is something else different from Williams active suspension,Renault engineers record a pathway of the track recording bumps and level surface, making the car less difficult and accurate to drive in corners.
Basically advanced Quadra trac Il for Mercedes sports car. Nice.
I have it on my Active Soarer 1992. Its better worked out as a true active, with hydropneumatic system with no springs. The use of skyhook means the sensors compensate for the dips drops yaw attitude via G sensors and gyroscopes. Added to this is 4 wheel steering. It works very well, incredibly smooth with excellent control (unlike a citroen) and outrageous handling. Sadly only 650 were ever made when Toyota in their infinite wisdom pulled the plug on it. Its reliable and using it in 2013.
"unlike a citroen" ?
^^
UZZ32 with active suspension is based on air, completely different to this hydraulic based system. No comparison
The other car is so clearly a Opel or Vauxhall
Opel Insigina pls
Thought about this believe it or not, but just was not smart enough to visualize/invent such a suspension system. My initial thoughts were that this would add too much weight and air suspension already does a good job. This system would also require the car to be tuned for each driver, as each drivers habits differ. Cool idea Benz, let's see how it works in life.
The best or nothing.........
Like elektromagnetic suspension from bose
funny how they are comparing an SL to what obviously is a Vauxhall Insignia (or Buick Regal)
Different, maybe. Completely different? Eh... Just how different are they really? Bose, I believe, uses electromagnets instead of hydraulics, and I don't know what type of sensors each of the systems use, but does it really matter? They are really quite similar systems.
i have a tata flag ship model indica......in which i have abc....its not aactive body controll its advanced body controll.....its cheaper than that od merc....only thing is that i have to adjust myself manually asper the responses of vehicle to the bumps and dents.... my eyes are the sensors......also this system has life time guaranteee and fail safe features installed....
Does the cls class have this for airmatic?
14_07_22 nah only CL,SL and S AMG class. People don’t realize that a CLS is actually a E class and on that same level. A brand new CL was $120k while a CLS was $80! Once you get in a CL then get in a CLS you will immediately see the difference!
i have a 2001 mercedes s500 amg sport with ABC suspension. Ive had this car without warranty and the ABC light came on.the spring suspension will last u forever. This hydraulic technology will only serve 5-8 years on warranty.
What model is this? It looks nice .
Sl550.
how about acouple of air bags ? rover been doing it for a while now plus im sure it cost less.i know airbags are not better then this but very few cars have this installed .
buggingout67 Air suspension is extremely expensive and requires the car to then have an air compressor. And not many cars have air suspension either.
Airmatic
Learn your stuff before you troll. Mercedes introduced this technology in 1991 on a few prototype C112 models. Became standard in the CL series in 1999, and standard now on all SL and S class in 2003...
Hi Mercdes benz service it seems that my active body control isnt working, how mych doesnt cost to fix it?
I had a heart attack for you & didn't even get an answer from service or own a Mercedes
Great technology from Mercedes, but Citroen introduced something much better and much more sophisticated already in 1994! My -98 model Citroen Xantia Activa has the wellknown Citroen-comfort combined with true sportscar handling. The system has worked flawlessly for over 14 years now, and the general build-quality of the car is second to none. Check it out! Also check out the swedish "Elk test" or "Moose test" and look for number one :-)
I checked it out. In pix I saw the same pulsation dampeners the SL uses.
How is the Citroen system better?
Even Lotus had a prototype in 1983...
hehe that's what I thought but apparently not true. Bose suspension died -never took off.
Cadillac had that on their cars well over a decade ago.
Ray Lucero nan son, it had the air but only in the back. Cadillac did it just for level height but Lincoln did it for the ride but the air makes it more of a float or boat type ride with less control. The hydraulic give it more control and damping factor
Why my 2012 MB C Class does not have this?
still not bose suspension
50 years after the DS.
Mmm front to rear, I am all-in
Sweet! Now the 40k mile repair bill will be twice as expensive. At least I get a pimp C-class loaner car.
xD
So it´s citroen suspension, the best.
mercedes is really pay attention on detail of every car they made..
still curious where they got the idea from..
Bose made such suspension around 2008 for lexus. I don't know why that one is not marketed yet.
Yashar M. Aval the reason they discontinued that type is because people hated driving it because they wouldn't have a feel of the vehicle when turning or hitting bumps. The one on Mercedes allows for a bit of movement to feel as though you're still driving
The first active suspension I know of was in the 1980s used by the Lotus F1 team. But the way the systems work often vary between manufactures. But the concept was made by Lotus.
Because Mercedes like to brag a lot about stuffs there are quite common with cars in the same class as Mercedes.
MilitanT07 Mercedes brag because they are at the fore front of automotive technology especially when it comes to safety. I go to school at the MBUSA Jacksonville facility and we have seen things that wont be on other cars for another 3-4 years.
Superb... i need one.. but i don't have money
Buy a Xantia
or every other car on the road...
ABC suspension is great in a new Mercedes but a older one, I would change for a coil suspension set up, ABC in the long run turns into a money pit for most people that want a Mercedes but Don't know of all the components to keep their vehicle evenly leveled off the ground. Coil suspensions last about one hundred thousand miles before needing replacement, ABC unit goes bad, if the owner continues to drive the car with one side not properly leveled the entire system will need to be fixed, this what causes people to get rid of the automobile, then it ends up sitting on the ground like a 1964 Chevy Impala with hydraulics.
I have a 2007 mercedes S550 And it’s sitting a little low someone told me it’s the body active control, does that mean my car is broken? How do I make it sit normally again
@@sonnynicholas7455 You would have to search the internet and find an independent shop that specializes in German automobiles so they can address the situation you are having. Where you are living you should try the yelp app, search for customers reviews on the app to help you with a german independent shop. If you take it to a local Mercedes Benz dealership it's out of Warranty, most likely your vehicle is because it's a 2007, 13 years old the Mercedes benz dealership, will charge you an astronomical amount of money to service your hydraulic suspension. Just to replace one is about $1200-$1500 per wheel not including labor. When you replace one hydraulic you have to replace the other. Mercedes recommended you do it in pairs so you are looking at about $2400, $3000 dollars for a set of them including labor. Hopefully this is not the case with your Mercedes S Class. If it is and you have the money no problem have it done, if not your S Class in the long run will be sitting on the ground.
Ahh yes, Active Body Control, what can go wrong?
(Owner of an S600 with ABC)
more to fix xD
BOSE didn't invent active suspension try looking back further
HAHAHAHAH at 1:15 Mercedes came for Buick ahahahahahhahahahah
I was only here for the dance party
until shit breaks its great lol. Big $$$ if you need to repair
not really bose works completly different ... learn your stuff, then troll around
your sarkasm radar seems to be broke, call your local psychologist.
The best and worst suspension ever built, I’ve owned an SL550 and a SL63 AMG nothing but trouble with this suspension. When it’s working it’s great, but get ready to start spending money after 32,000 miles
Yeah next time you want this type of video hire me, ill make a better one
But it cost over 1000$ to replace each shock
+bend over Well, if you're going to spend 100k+ would it really matter?
tjblues01 not when people like me buy this used and a shock is 1/8 the price of the car
bend over So that car is not for you. Simply as that.
"If a shit had any value then the poor would be born without a hole in their asses"
Dude, I'd love to own Cessna TTx, even used one... So what? Should I sell my house and live in a shelter?
tjblues01 na it is for me. Mercedes-Benz or nothing.
bend over So start saving coins :-)
bose suspension better
mercedes benz magic
Frenk Vortice DS suspension but later.
