- Lane Kiffin had his name in the news a lot during the latter portion of the 2022 College Football season as he was heavily linked to the Auburn job opening. On Late Kick Live Ep 378 Josh Pate reacted to Kiffin's most recent comments about that period and why he ultimately chose to remain in Oxford. As an Ole Miss fan, grad, and collective donor, we ALL understand that Lane would take the Alabama job the millisecond it was offered to him. And we accept that. Pate is right that we know where we are in the pecking order. Every time we start to make a move up, something or someone bites us in the ass and we get knocked back down. And that will only get worse once the two Big12 schools join next year. No, we aren't happy about it, but it is reality, so we accept it. But we want to be competitive and put butts in seats, so here we are. Stuck in the middle with no place to go.
Here's the thing. Don't let Lane make the playoff in Oxford. The game changes if that happens. The path to the 1st tier opens up much wider in a year or so.
Please let Alabama make that mistake after Saban is done 🐯
Kiffin is a strategic job seeker. What he does once he gets there is another matter altogether.

As a life long bama fan.. honestly I would be fine with lane taking over after saban. I like his attitude and how far he's come sense he became a coach at alabama, then has gone on to be a pretty good coach at ole miss, lane is just held back over there... I know he has the most respect for saban and the alabama program. Roll Tide !

I don't think Auburn ever made a serious offer to Lane Kiffin, except showing perfunctory interest that might be expected. Kiffin did use that rumor to improve his salary and NIL collective at Ole Miss, as you say.
And those that pay attention already know that any head coach that once worked for Saban (especially at Alabama), would love to take over after Saban retires or explodes.....with the likely exception of Kirby Smart.

Auburn dodged a bullet! Glad dude stayed in the Sip where he can build something instead of cutting and running all the time.
He said his kids didn’t want to leave and I believe that. I had a feeling when I saw his son playing with the fire extinguisher. Lane already had one foot out the door so OM targeted his kids. It was a clever move.
But in all honesty, after watching them drop 4 out of 5 games and finishing almost dead last in the SEC in recruiting….I think I’m okay with us not landing him.
I think their was Alabama clause that he wouldn't agree to besides him wanting Jimbo Fisher money and Auburn said we will take the coach that didn't lose to Arkansas ironically lol

Maybe so, but I doubt it. An Auburn HC would never get hired at Bama and vice versa. I don’t think it’s something you would need to get in writing as it’s just something that will never happen anyways.

We didn’t “target” his kids! We love his kids! Get over yourself! If Lane had left, we would have still loved them; they’re precious. Knox with the fire extinguisher was the players. If I had to guess, Jonathan Hess was responsible since he was usually on fire extinguisher duty.
Auburn job is in an similar position as Tennessee a decade ago; it is arguably the toughest job in the SEC. They play Georgia, Alabama, AND LSU (three top ten teams) every year while not having a top 15 roster in terms of talent, not to mention the rest of the SEC west. Meanwhile, fan expectations are 8+ wins... Auburn will be a revolving door for the foreseeable future.
We are a handful of programs that can win a national championship, those expectations are justifiable. Freeze's first class is a potential top 15 class right now so I don't know what you are talking about a revolving door, Auburn has the money and brand to win a championship.

Their recruiting potential is about to take a hit, actually already started. Once UT gets rolling, they get the top TX prospects and UT looks like they figured out this NIL thing. I am a Red Raider & don't care for either TAMU or UT, but I've also lived 60 years in the Republic & know which way the wind blows. Lane wouldn't last 5 years at TAMU in any case.

Why would he try to keep Hugh out of Auburn? Do you think his commission is higher with Lane at Ole Miss and Hugh at Auburn or Hugh at Liberty and Lane at Auburn? You’re smarter than this, Josh.

I’d love Kiffin at Bama. The sheer fight and rage that the Tennessee faithful would give them every single season would be unlike anything we have seen in my lifetime. Not to mention for the first time in a long time the boosters know their place and are letting Freeze coach. @Keats Reynolds in today's climate of college football, there's many more 3 stars becoming great, and a large amount of 5 stars being average players. Also Freeze doesn't recruit locally well and is known for missing gems in his own backyard from chasing high ranked players across the country. Does he still play gospel music at practices?

Lane had a recruiting class outside of the top 30. Hugh Freeze showed up and took our class from outside of the top 45 to 17 in 2 weeks. Those are facts sir. But I should cry because Kiffin chose to stay at a school that never won the west? You can hate Auburn but be smart about this dude. Auburn isn't that much better of a job than Ole Miss. The state produces a ton of talent, the school has shown it can compete at a high level multiple times, but something always gets in the way of sustained success.

Since 1992 when the SEC went to divisonal play Auburn has played in 6 SEC title games having won 3 of them they have won the west 6 times and they have played in 2 Nattys with a Heismen
