I’m a 60-year-old southerner and have loved SEC football my entire life. I had never heard of Finebaum until the Auburn Toomers Corner tree poisoning episode years back. He then had a regional radio show within Alabama and the entire show - like his schick today - was and remains basically sports- talk-Jerry-Springer. I’m not speaking of him as a person just about his persona on the air. I’ve never thought he was effective, educated, enjoyable or did his job well.
Finebaum is an unfunny insult comic whose specialty is kicking teams and coaches when they're down. He adds little or nothing to the conversation other than hot takes and predictions of disaster. IMHO, Lane has acted like a jerk on too many occasions to recount, but Mr. F'baum is not the one to call him out - at least on that count.

His shows are white trash palooza. It's not watchable and add to that Pat McAfee and now Saban I'm out. Actual football is in the background now behind all of the over inflated egos and steroids.

Kiffin is coaching his best football currently, has shown maturity on/off the field since his USC / Tenn days. Obviously still salty - deservingly so. Ultimately - Lane says what other coach’s want to, and Paul is nothing but click bait.
The worst thing about Harvey Updyke poisoning that tree was how much profile it gave Finebaum. It’s unbelievable how little he understands about the game, and the fact that he’s been on ESPN for a decade is all you need to know to understand what a dump ESPN has become
Pete Carroll, Lane Kiffin, Ed ORGERON, Steve Sarkisian… how many great coaches aren’t good enough for USC?
Pete Carroll chose to leave after winning multiple titles. Kiffin was & still is a scrub, Orgeron was a one-hit wonder bcuz of Burrow & Sark stepped down & went right into treatment for alcoholism. Anymore bs u need debunked Google it yourself

People like Finebaum and SAS are professional trolls and it amazes me that they're highly paid because of it. Neither of them provides intelligent content, it's literally the Jerry Springer effect.
Kiffin was 28-15 at the time of his firing. He was averaging 7 wins a year at So Cal. He was coming off a 62-41 loss to ASU as well. Paul Finebaum had nothing to do with that mediocrity but he's an easy target.
Maybe you should have listened more carefully. Kiffin said that Paul did not get him fired. The timing of it happening on the tarmac is what he is referring to.

I’ve been listening to Finebaum since he was in Birmingham, Al in the mid 90’s. I’m a Bama fan btw. He has changed a lot. He goes after coaches every year and feeds off what his callers like. He did the same to coach Harbaugh until he won last year. Good for coach Kiffin.

Paul Finebaum was right. Kiffin was a joke when Finebaum made that comment. Finebaum also didn't have the power to get Kiffin fired. He got fired because he did poorly at USC, and at Tennessee, and with the Raiders. How many coaches can fail in their first three jobs, and still keep getting hired? Kiffin has gotten to where he has because of daddy.
You don't have a clue what you are talking about. Kiffin arrived at USC with assurances that no major sanctions were about to hit. Then BOOM, they got hammered by the NCAA. At one point, they only had something like 35 scholarship players. USC did remarkably well, considering the circumstances, under Kiffin. He took a pathetic TN team from 5-7 to 7-5 in his only year, and had the #7 recruiting class before he left for USC, which was his dream job at the time.

College football has turned into one big reality show that sucks. For the first year in 50 years I don't give a damn who wins or loses, who gets fired, or what overpriced burnt out jock or coach is on a tv show. If not for espn keeping it afloat with overpriced tv deals that get passed on to customers college football would be a non event like nascar now.

Pete Carroll knew it was time to exit USC & take the Seahawks' job. USC was headed for some NCAA scrutiny too. Lots of shenanigans in LA with recruiting were about to be exposed. USC went into a tail dive & the program imploded. So many good coaches got caught up into that political power struggle within the school's administration & supporters & athletic department creating an unstable environment to rebuild a successful program.

BTW speaking of Paul Finebaum, this summer when he was to Austin, Texas listen to what and how he misspoke about the number of BIG 12 Football Championships Texas had won vs Oklahoma. Then in Norman, Oklahoma on July 1st, 2024 Paul Finebaum apologized to the OU fan base he was WRONG. It was Oklahoma and the number of BIG 12 Football Championships won against the number for Texas. OMG do you think Oklahoma fans give a (fill in the blank) about Paul Finebaum. Last comment I am an Oklahoma born and raised male age 70. and a BOOMER SOONER BABY!!
Welcome to the SEC. You’ll get plenty of Finebaum slander to drive you crazy. You wouldn’t pay attention until it’s multiple ESPN shows and podcast talking about your team. Not to mention, the influence he has on your program losing the head coach or causing your best player to leave the team or play his worse game.
