The crowd popping huge in the opening match for HEADLOCK FUCKING TAKEOVERS reminded me why I fell in love with Pro Wrestling.
So was Omos fucking with the crowd. Most modern heels don't taunt the audience DURING the match anymore and I've missed that.
The crowd was giving pops for just about everything and everyone. It felt like they were just really having a good time and just enjoying the show. The crowd kicked ass
Playing or taunting the crowd properly is a lost art
And that's something jim would have loved
@@ElElectricoDGR81the fundamentals have been lost. Too many wrestlers practicing their somersaults and springboard tumbling 360° destroyers 🤸
I think good heels still do it. I remember both Ripley and the Usos were taunting the crowd at points.
Good for WWE to put Backlash in Puerto Rico. Puerto Rico deserves nothing but love & what a hot show it was. The people were incredible.
Why does Puerto Rico deserves “nothing but love”?
@@Wwesvr11bestprojects uh oh a black has a problem with another group getting praise😢
@@lowki07 😂 wait why is it a black ? I'm black .. its not a thing for blacks to hate on others getting some shine ? I'm agreeing there is no issue with Puerto Rico getting love ( been there and it's amazing and amazing people ) but the way u phrased that had a hint of resentment
@@lowki07 no . I am Latino. I am just trying to figure out what he means? Doesn’t every country deserves all the love? Which countries don’t deserve love? And why?
@@lowki07 1. How do you even know dude is black? I don’t see a picture anywhere and his name is Diego which is not a typically black name.
2. Since when is it a common thing for black people to be outraged that a different race is getting attention? Is that a common experience for you? Because that is a completely fucked narrative.
Savio Vega helped get Razor Ramon and Stone cold Steve Austin in the early 90's. Great to see him and Carlito.

Vega really doesn't get the recognition he deserves. I have good memories of watching him in the ring. The Austin strap match is still one of my best Austin matches.

Me too!!! 😥
@@TheJoaniejoancansew Me also. When he did them Kwang punches with that kick on Finn I was marking out
I don't think it should be a yearly event, but stick Puerto Rico into constant consideration in the rotation of PPV sites... Crowd was HOT and the show packed a punch to it that most beyond the major 4 usually don't. I enjoyed this show WAAAAAY more than I ever thought I would going into it. Most pleasant of surprises.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but Elimination Chamber in Montreal this past Feb was hot.
Chancla. The term for the shoe is chancla. And it's not just a Puerto Rican thing. My Mexican abuelita would break out her chancla when it was time to lay down some discipline
I was born in Argentina and I learned how to dodge those the hard way! 😂
Chancla is spanish for a sandal, not a shoe, which would be zapato.
I always knew it as a chancleta. 😂😂
My Mexican and Puerto Rican friends told me of the fear of God those things put into them. 😂😂
@David Emmanuelli That is more than a latino thing...My Caribbean mother was Tom Brady with the flip-flops.
We know, We know. Michael Cole is trying to get points from the Latino crowd about a flip flops.
Backlash was better then night two of Wrestlemania, I hope they go back to PR next year .
Minor ple in international soil would be great. It also helps tourism for the country
It blew Wrestlemania Night II out of the water.
Iyo vs. Bianca was the tone-setter for the show, IMO. The fans were clearly of the mindset that Iyo was ready for the next level. Even Michael Cole made the comment that the WWE Universe was wanting the Iyo that they knew she was and still is. I have watched her since her early days in New Japan, and she is ready to be a women's world champion on a larger platform.
as an italian raised around mostly puertoricans, whos mom threw sandals, my buddys mom threw a stiletto at him once. i popped for the sandal spot. Chancletta i think is the word
Love Brian going to bat for the Bianca and Iyo match despite Corny’s bellyaching
Bianca has Shiksa Appeal to Shlomo errr Brian…he’s crushing hard 😅
Brian calling Jim a crotchety old man for not watching the first match was pretty funny. It was almost like a son asking his dad to watch something with him or do something with him that means the world to him and the dad forgets and disappoints the son...or in Jim's case just says he's got better things to do lol
That's cause modern wrestling sucks compared to 25 years ago. Jim Ross, Vince Russo and Pat Patterson were in charge back than. Can't replace them guys.
That is exactly the vibe I got from that entire discussion.
Brock is the "Wrestling may be scripted but I'm the realest shit" kind of guy. With Brock in the ring you never know what's scripted or shoot. The way he made Orton busted him open by using elbows looks totally legitimate shoot move. He's the kind of guy who definitely put over if he sees the opponent has true potential and a money maker.
Which is exactly why he didn't put over Moxley. Or didn't do half of the shit that Moxley wanted to do in their match!!
@@bootneyfarnsworth2844With everything he's done to himself for the business Mox is a goddamn legend, in that instance Lesnar was in the wrong.
@@bootneyfarnsworth2844 After seeing some of the shit Mox has been up to now that he doesn't have anyone telling him "no" I don't blame Brock one bit. WWE shouldn't have even booked that match when they knew damn well Brock wouldn't do business with that putz. Put both guys with someone they actually wanted to work with and you would have got two good matches instead of one shitty match.
What are you talkin about? Brock Lesnar rarely goes off script you act like it's a common occurrence
I mean he did bust open Randy the hard way but it was planned but the beauty of that was we as the viewers did not know if it was planned and that’s exactly why Brock is so damn good
I’m glad Brian actually told Jim to watch the opener. I was shocked by how good it was.
it wasn’t good at all they suck
God it’s so cringe. Asuka barely dragged a decent match out of her at Mania
@@countof3everybodyOD shh, facts arent acceptable around here
Shocked? Why shocked… Bianca & Iyo are literally two of the best. Bianca is newer obviously but Iyo has been doing this for yrsss but we just haven’t got to see her true ability since she’s been on the main roster but her NXT work and her international work, even her brief time in Lucha Underground has been incredible!
I get that wrestling is subjective, but I don't know how anyone could walk away from that match believing it was anything less than a solid opener with a hot crowd. They worked their butts off and Io looked like a star in there thanks, in large part, to the way the crowd was backing her. I agree with Brian saying it was one of the best matches on the entire card and would absolutely put it over the Cody and Brock match.
I loved the Bianca match too. There’s nothing like a crowd that says, “I don’t care who’s the face, I’m gonna root for whomever I want!”
The part that made me chuckle was when Belair would forget to sell the arm, then remember and start selling again. 😊
Iyo’s best match I’ve seen so far!
Funny enough that’s how someone in peril would actually react to an injury on adrenaline. You easily forget you’re hurt until you attempt to use your hurt body part.
I really enjoyed that match too! I knew Io from her days in Stardom and I really hope she gets a singles push because SHE CAN GO.
Also she has the case for best Mixed match ever. I hate those matches normally and they make me really uncomfortable but in the wacky world of Lucha Underground with (a way cooler version of) Pentagon it actually worked! Penthouse fought against Io, Kairi and Mayu Iwatani in a gauntlet match. Absolutely brutal but really good, I can recommend it :)
So Belair had a case of the classic "Seth Rollins knee". It happens.
At least she can remember which side of her body is supposed to be hurt. Seth Felicity Rollins struggles with that. He probably gets defeated by threaded couplings of various kinds, water taps, screw-caps, old-school door locks, turn indictors, etc. on a regular basis, too.
Io Shirai vs Sasha Banks on NXT during the pandemic was 1 of the only times NXT beat AEW head-to-head, & it was against a Jericho match too lol.
Io rules & will hopefully get a strong solo push using her heel character from NXT.

The weekly TV can be very stale, especially Raw. But the PLE/PPVs have been between solid to very good the last year or so.
Heck, wrestlemania was really good in dallas last year and that was when vince had a TON of involvement.
Not the best but one of the best in the last decade.
The RAW crowds are so dead that they are piping in constant crowd noise now:
I agree the ppv is better the shows is break stop promo long talking segments
It's because they aren't giving away to much on live tv. It makes the PLE's feel much more important. Triple H does give more random matches away with no good reason, but the match quality is better. I think once they find that sweet spot it will explode. I think that will come with more intricate storylines and character development.

I think WWE have hit the biggest jackpot they've had since Rock/Cena by Increasing their show pressense outside of NA. Sure Canada shows are usually more lively but it's usually only for the one or two Canadian guys. But outside NA there is no major promotion (NJPW doesn't even count, especially since Japan culture doesn't lend itself towards crowd events) so people are starved for Wrestling. Castle was bigger then SummerSlam with all that hype, and Puerto Rico just has those wild latino fans.
NAs trends of being sanitised and need to be perfect doesn't lend itself to wrestling, and it's not the best market for it anymore since major entertainment went hollywood. I can definitely see a move to at least 5 International PPVs a year in WWEs future, hell, maybe one day they'd pull the trigger on Mania going somewhere else if they could slip out of the American Entertainment industry BS.
Bunny Vs Priest was awesome. I thought it was booked perfectly except for Bunny getting up after that slam on the stage. That was a bit too much even considering who's involved and where the match is.
12:20 - Jim Cornette... Giant Gonzales was billed at 8'0" tall.
Said it before, this is why the crowd is very important in wrestling!
Brian's the only reason Jim reviews any of these modern shows and you can tell when talking about the women's match Jim didn't bother to watch
I love Jim, but the equal opportunities movement of giving the women loads of airtime just doesn’t fly with his entire view of the wrestling world needing to be blood and guys and violence, it always plays into the gymnastics and choreography he hates.
Brian calling Jim a mean old man was great lol
i can understand Jims perspective 🤣🤣🤣🤣 inside the squared circle a story is told sometimes theres no story and somethings thrown together. I think some wrestlers try to work according to the crowd instead of having a match. They want the crowd to pop but thats not what having a good match is about. And when we know which wrestlers just want to pop the crowd we fast forward. And yeah time can be a problem but even that should mean power moves are used and theres an eagerness to put the opponent away not do a cheesy roll up or count out. Samoa Joe was a great ring general Gunther most definitely is Bayleys got a great eye for the ring as well. Depends on if they choose to be cheesy or if they want to give something life
@@HessenUK it’s not about he not liking “the equal opportunities movement” , it’s that nowadays wrestling is all
About “let’s give females a chance” instead holding women to a standard. Let’s be honest. Most female wrestlers are trash. It’s only a few like Rhea that can actually wrestle well. The rest of them instead of trying to improve they complain in the internet until wwe finally take time from men wrestlers who are held at a higher standar and work harder just to give it to them.
@@HessenUKas good as Bianca and IO are , there’s no good story line behind it. Same for Zelina, as good as the moment was the “Im Puerto Rican so I should get a shot” was ridiculous
Bianca is far too scripted in the ring to invest in, in any way. Shes constantly waiting for the next spot and doing poses, absolutely no genuine emotion that related to being in a match. and it never gets mentioned but she can be quite clumsy in the ring and has dropped her opponent multiple times. that one armed what ever it was could of paralyzed IO
I've been noticing this more and more lately. Rhea compared has been steadily improving since coming to the main roster, but Bianca is still doing the same stuff she's been doing for 4 years.
Yep but any criticism of hers you are either racist or sexist it can’t actually be real criticism like you are bringing right now that’s why it never gets mentioned though you are correct and my lord someone finally said it I thought I was the only one that damn one arm press was a cool visual but she spiked iyo into the mat like had she hit a little different it could’ve been catastrophic
Agreed its time for a change and send her down to the mid card. She's been booked like a monster, had 3 wrestlemania moments, long title run and a majority of the roster has been fed to her. What more can you do with Bianca. I was a fan but I'm tired of her and the predictability at this point
It may be time to unify the women's belt. Ripley and Charlotte can fued it out.
@@thegarygnushow7921 Oh, dear God, no.
Drone operator … dronnneeee , operator
This was the first time I questioned if Bianca was really as good as I thought previously. The selling the arm was garbage and inconsistent, she dropped sky on her face. Most of her offense was call sky to her and slam her. Bianca is knly as good as the person she is facing.
She stop selling the arm half way through the match
Y’all lying. Straight up. She sold that arm all the way thru. That military press was a highlight of that. She didn’t do any worse than anyone else selling a body part during a match. Cut the shxt.
Which is why her match with Sonya Deville was the only bad part of RAW XXX.
Imagine a WrestleMania in San Juan? Could the island resorts handle the influx in attendance? If so, WOW what an atmosphere it would be!!!😮😮😮
Carlito is 44. He looks much younger.
Carlito’s got it going on
If you would’ve told me Savio Vega had gotten a hometown pop in 2023, I would’ve told you stop taking acid and shrooms.
He should've come out as Kwang!!
@Bootney Farnsworth Not spraying the green mist in Priests eyes was a missed opportunity
"They're booking for the world..." Yeah, it's not like having wrestlers always lose in front of their hometown crowds, so they "know their place", has been one of VinnyMac's irrational obsessions ever since Bret tried to pull the "I can't lose in Canada" crap on him.
I WOULD LIKE TO PREFACE THIS BY SAYING ITS ONLY VIABLE IF OMOS CONTINUES TO IMPROVE.
For Omos, I think Jim actually pointed out a way they could build him without realizing it. If he does continue to improve, when they're ready to start pushing him as a legitimate contender, just put him on a massive winning streak. Tell the story that he came into WWE with amazing genetic gifts and athletic tools, but it has taken him some time to gain experience as a wrestler and learn from his mistakes. Now that he has learned and grown, he's able to put everything together and dominate.
I like this idea for omos jim was on to something with this and I like how you put it as well they should go that route with him
And go goldberg, cargill type of streak wich of course with omos could work just because of how big he is
I'm not sure that would work. Traditionally, you can't introduce a "giant" as somebody who gets beaten by everybody, then show him improve. It goes against the entire point of having a "giant" in pro wrestling.
If he isn't established as an unstoppable overwhelming force from the start, he's not a "giant" - he's just a very tall clumsy guy who should have stuck to getting fed the ball for dunks in basketball.
@Henry Gvidonas true but he was at first when they had him go unbeaten till he lost to Lashley at mania 38 so having him improve and getting wins against quality opponents really is the only way to go at this point
The ol Hall Of Pain booking strategy I like it
This show sure was better than whenever WWE goes to Saudi Arabia.
The word you was looking for is "chacleta"(forgive the spelling) its essentially means "slipper"
Jim: "Then the pro wrestler has to be thrown off the roof through a table." Indy wrestlers: You son of a bitch I'm in
I skipped the opener as well, but for you Brian, I will go back and watch it.
When you think of it, the moonsault is the stupidest move in wrestling. Imagine climbing the turnbuckle and turning your back on your opponent to do a backflip onto him. A moonsault on a standing opponent is stupider.
Giant Gonzalez was taller than Andre the giant.
I love how Brian called Seth Rollins "Franklin" very matter of factly. 😅
😂Brian's getting more blunt with Jim in recent months. "You're a mean old man. Everyone knows".---Brian
I popped hard when Savio showed up. I forgot how much of a fan i was of his way back.
As an international fan, I can just echo the sentiment to maybe do a couple of PLEs per year in 'wrestling-friendly' countries. There is enough Japanese talent to actually make a big show in Japan work in my opinion. Even though Japanese WWE crowds are like the worst of both worlds lol
Australia is definitely a place very deserving of a big event as well. I think India could be chaotic as hell but fun tooAs a German, I'm not sure we are a naturally great wrestling crowd like Puerto Rico, Australia or England but obviously I'd love to see it. There famously was the Raw in Germany that brought Shitstain into power lmao
Hey, at least we got a great match between Owen and Davey at that Raw from Germany as fans.
PLE does not exist. It's called a PPV and always will be.
@@monabear7287 I’m also not a fan of the WWE semantics, but it’s definitely not a PPV anymore because nobody in their right mind is paying the full PPV price for the big wwe events but rather streams it through the network/peacock.
So yeah we could call it supercard like in the ages before PPV, but I think most people understood me when I used PLE.
Very good impressions of jim on the belair vs io match
Looked at the replay of the PPV for a few minutes just to see the arena setup... yeah that felt like a nice throwback to see minimal set design, wish they'd piss off with the LED screens on the ring though still. Liked also that that arena didn't have it's own LED ribbon around the upper stands like every identical arena in the States, the less the presentation looks like an ADHD-fueled video game the better. Everything is so overblown and gigantic about their television that it overshadows and dwarfs the talent making their entrances trying to get you to pay attention to them.
Back when it was good the talent used to chew up the scenery and now it's the opposite.
Omos beat Apollo Crews and Commander Azeez in a 2-1 handicap match….so I guess that’s his biggest win lol
How do you access the episode this is from? They are not up yet on Apple.
