- The VGC Regulation G ruleset is finally here and to kick things off, I wanted to try out one of the brand new restricted Pokemon, Terapagos! Terapagos is a really unique Pokemon that can deal massive amounts of damage with its signature attack, Tera Starstorm. When paired with a Choice Specs, this Pokemon can quickly sweep through teams and clean up games!

Does Neutralizing Gas keep em that way?
@@Kasaaz It does not :) The Tera Shift ability is essentially immune from any interference whatsoever, activates once per battle, and is replaced by Terapagos Terastal Form's Tera Shell ability from then on. I am not sure if Tera Shell or Terraform Zero are suppressed by Neutralising Gas.
It’s such a fantastic design, definitely one of my new favorite, I just wish it could tera without using your tera slot.
@@teno777 You can do some crazy stuff without tera-ing with Calm Mind + Comfey, etc.
The dialga couldn't be goggles btw, since it needs to hold the signature item to be in origin form.

QOTD - Playing with absurdly busted restricteds for fun has been great but I find myself being really frustrated with how single restricted plays in a competitive setting. The restricteds are so powerful that it forces a lot of lines of play fully out of consideration and so far it’s made a lot of the games I’ve played feel very same-y. I expect the double restricted format to fix that issue whenever it comes along, and there’s definitely still a possibility I come to enjoy the format more, but I can’t help wishing reg F stayed around a little longer

I've heard from Moxie Boosted that apparently double restricted are even more restricted than single restricted. Some support legendaries do get better (such as Lunala), however the vast majority of teams end up being "pick the two restricted that go best together". At least in a single restricted format, there's more of a rock/paper/scissors of certain restricted beating out others and pushing a niche because of that (such as Kyurem-White and Reshiram possibly having a niche if Zacian gets popular).
With Miraidon and Calyrex Shadow being as strong as they are, I personally expect a lot more Ground, Fairy and Dark types to rise up in usage

I think history shows this isn’t really true. In SwSh, Wolfey had difficulty building teams because every tournament went to, he rarely ran into the same combination or restricted more than once, while the single restricted that happened later was all Calyrex and Zacian.
Moxie also seems pretty flipped on this opinion, as he sometimes says that double restricted is better (plus Miraidon is not good right now)
@@Endershock1678True, I remember a lot of diversity in gen 8, including when Zacian/Caly-s was so omnipresent. And that was very much the case at top competitive level from what I can recall.
@@oireal7261 I don't really see how that's different than a single restricted format, people will still either play the best or attempt to counter the best. The meta often solidifies into a few strong teams, things like urshifu balance, and then other fringe teams are made that attempt to counter the most popular teams, like the Kommo-o iron defense teams. The addition of a second restricted on every team may push a few mons out of the metagame but I don't think that's that different than what happened when paradox mons were released in reg B.
I do think dual restricted will fix my problems regardless, as my frustrations don't come from restrictions during teambuilding, but more from the linearity of many of the single restricted strategies. In past formats, I could have an urshifu and a flutter mane on my team and either would be viable candidates to sweep given correct setup, meaning I could construct equally viable gameplans around either mon and execute them despite them being on the same team. Restricteds are so monstrously powerful that they nearly necessitate being brought, limiting the pool of viable brings from my 6 available mons and oftentimes forcing similar lines of play in every match. Having a second threat of that caliber helps spread the power out across your team, making it far less punishing to leave behind a restricted in a bad matchup, and allowing for more variations on your gameplan when dealing with opposing threats.
QOTD: I have no idea what’s going on. It feels like aside from Calyrex being broken, absolutely nothing predicted was correct. Why is Zamazenta cracked? Why are Miraidon and Groudon so bad? Why is Pelliper so good? I genuinely can’t predict who is gonna do well and not.
The last single restricted meta completely sucked, but this one actually feels incredibly unique and diverse in comparison, and I have no idea where it will progress. Of course, it’s still centralizing, as every single restricted meta tends to be, but being very matchup based means some tech choices are so much more powerful than expected, so overall, pretty good, for now at least.

The full base power comparison of Tera Starstorm before and after tera is as follows:
Before it is a single target normal move with 120 bp (so 180 after STAB)
After tera it's 120 x 1.2 from Stellar bonus x 0.75 for spread (if spread) for a total 108 bp (40% weaker), however this is offset some by the additional 25 base spattk gained when tera which roughly is 16.27% more overall spattk (if +spattk nature and full invest). So final dmg loss is ~30% (27% if no ev invest so always around that range) or ~4% loss if single target
but after tera you also get almost 25% more special attack?
@@jonas9622You get about 16% more spattk since IV's, EV's, and Natures are involved, I edited to account for it
i know this is correct, but in my mind it doesn't make sense why it doesn't get the double stab with tera, like it should work like Kyogre water tera water spout but it doesn't for no reason. Stellar Type looking dumber by the second to me. Pokemon saved by Teraform Zero tho, that ability is really really good.
@@luigimanzelli3786 It's made up for by the fact that nothing can resist it (basically has a built in Tinted Lens, but better). Makes it the ultimate spammable spread move just that you need some power boost like specs or a calm mind to really make that base 130 spattk break stuff

I don’t super play competitive pokemon but I really like how analytical Cybertron is and it’s very clear that his knowledge on the game is super refined. QOTD: I recently discovered Pokémon Rogue. It’s a browser rogue like Pokémon game. Where are you get to decide your starting team from all the starter Pokémon and you’re trying to get up to battle 200 the battles get really intense. Pokémon have a level cap of 200 and the game has special items to make it easier to get there once you’re out later in the run so you’re getting more XP per battle and it has access to all the bow gimmicks, except for Z move the think. The question is have you played any of the aftermarket Pokémon games? I played a few roms, but nothing crazy

If there's one thing I have to say about Terapagos, is that I like how it's designed, meaning it's not an auto-win button like Calyrex, but a tool that has to be positioned correctly in order to even work in the first place. I'm honestly surprised it works with a Specs set, since it's very vulnerable to Snarl spam (especially on a team that doesn't even run Defiant/Wide Guard to discourage it) and offensive threats like Koraidon, and before Reg G was launched I kept seeing it all the time as a setup sweeper with either Leftovers or Amulet/Cloak. Still, apparently I was wrong and it's more versatile than it looks like!
Is there any consideration to having less than 4 moves with Terapagos to maximize the Sleep Talk chance of hitting Tera Starstorm? I believe you had a video of a Specs Sylveon a few regulations ago that did that.
Don’t forget electric terrain allows your pokémon not to fall asleep! Interesting play by your opponent on the first game 🤔

Can you explain why Terapagos is 244 speed and not 252? Doesnt 244, which puts you at 111, make you speed tie with timid 252 Speed Caly-S under tailwind? What's the reasoning behind not wanting to outspeed?

Is Ting-Lu going to be the answer for Calyrex Shadow Rider? Resists ghost type, is immune to psychic and lowers calyrex's sp.atk by 25%, can run throat chop for dark stab and heavy slam for steel coverage in case of tera fairy. Guaranteed OHKO with only 52 attack EV's if they're not tera'd, 2HKOs with heavy slam if they do tera, and tanks astral barrage with ease (5HKO with no EV's and max sp.atk on calyrex-s). Even without trick room Calyrex-s is gonna have a hard time removing him, in TR I don't see how calyrex has any chance.
Everyone is hyping up Calyrex Shadow Rider (for good reason) but I think we just didn't have the tools for it in Sw/Sh.

If you had failed to prevent their tailwind and torn gets knocked out do you just definitely lose game 2? I feel like terapagos goes down to kyogre and torn under tailwind spread damage and they just run over you
Yeah I'm not convinced by the calm mind stuff. Takes too long to setup and doesnt really create enough immediate pressure really allowing trick room teams to beat you. Ive found power herb meteor beam to be waaaay better. With tera stellar its a roll to one shot indeedee T1 but if you want to guarantee the knock out on indeedee, farigiraf whatever their trickroom setter of choice is helping hand will immediately murder the trick room setter. It's a gutsy play but after that you have so much momentum that the turtle just snowballs from there. Specs is cool too but really forces you to play too much in specific way imo. Power herb allows for protect, meteor beam, earth power, tera starstorm and gives our hard little cutie some flexibility.
QOTD I’m a fan of reg G so far I like testing and playing around with the new tools but as someone who only got into vgc in SV some of the new mons are so scary and hard to learn to deal with
