When I was 19, I was on vacay in Hawaii, and went out on a charter boat that intercepted a pod of humpback whales. We were able to dive in and swim among them. It was one of the most extraordinary experiences of my life. I floated on my back, and one of the smaller ones rolled on his (or her) back right along side me. He (or she) tapped her fin to high-five me, and then swam on. I will remember that moment on my deathbed.

where I live in the Isle of Man a whale washed up on the shore in the South in 1925. As it was a Sei Whale it was probably about 60 feet long. Similarly to your small town experience, the locals decided to haul it from Derbyhaven in the South to Douglas in the East. Luckily it didn't explode and the skeleton now hangs in the local history museum in the National History gallery.

Proud to say my mom lived in Newport when she was young around the same time the whale exploded in Oregon. Her and her dad were out on a visit to the beach when the whale exploded. She said that a chunk of whale ended up landing on the front of their car. Pretty crazy.
My dad shot a wild hog in a field once. He found it days later in the summer sun, so he hitched it to his truck with his chain. Then he dragged it out of the field. *Mid-trip, the hog exploded so horrifically that it dropped entrails on the hood of dad’s truck.* He happened to see it happen in his rearview mirror. The entire truck was misted, and the back of the truck had globs spattered on it. The explosion was so powerful that it knocked over haygrazer in a twenty foot radius. The chain was roughly twenty feet long from truck to hog.

I saw the hog. It was ripped clean in half, with its spine dragging. Stomach was gone, backflesh was rotten and torn. The only organs still inside were in the chest cavity, all greasy and deflated, turning brown. No scorch marks inside or out. Dad was also completely clean and wearing the same clothes he left in that morning, so he was definitely in the truck, and the truck was definitely facing away from the hog. This happened during a 120 degree week in Texas mesquite+caliche country. Normally a hog will rupture after a few days, or a bullet hole in the torso will off-gas. This hog was shot in the neck, and nothing touched it after it died. Bad luck for us. It achieved maximum bloat in the worst kind of heat, and being dragged put too much pressure on it. SPLAT Folks need to know that no matter how much you've seen in life, conditions can always create something unexpected.

I'm in my 50's. When I was a pre-teen, my friends' dad told us a story about when he was about 5 or 6. His family were extremely poor and he had no toys to play with. He and a friend had found a dead, bloated horse in a field and were jumping up and down on the distended belly like a trampoline. When I was a pre-teen, my friends' dad told us a story about when he was about 5 or 6.
His family were extremely poor and he had no toys to play with.
He and a friend had found a dead, bloated horse in a field and were jumping up and down on the distended belly like a trampoline.
They were both having a "gas", laughing and jumping up and down until he ended up to his neck in decayed horse guts and stench.
