Most people that talk about Orca in this generic manner, even WATOP, tend to generalize them as the "cruel, killing machines". I have seen a different side of them. I have a friend that works around Orca most of the year. One day, he discovered that their matriarch had gotten stuck, trying to get at some fish that hide in shallow water. The tide had gone out earlier than usual. He checked on her condition, to see if she was sick. Satisfied that she was not, he began digging a path for her to get back into the water, using a water pump to flood it, so that it worked like a water slide. He was able to get her back into the water quickly. Using a water jet, he followed her back to her pod, to see if she developed any problems from being stuck. If you don't know, their own weight can crush their insides, even injuring them. He described to me what he believes was her telling them about the experience. He said: "At one point, they all turned their attention to me. Their matriarch approached, made some kind of vocalization, before moving off to the side. From there, a few of them began hitting me with echolocation while she watched. In the end, it made me pretty sore. I think she made them stop. She made a short bark just before they quit." He went on to say that shortly after, one of the matriarchs daughters brought him a fish and, stated that they only shared food with family. I was able to dive with him after this and, can testify that they treat him like family. Once, he and I got charged at by a white shark. Quickly, two orca were on the creature, ramming it. Another stayed with us, until the shark left the area.
Important to note that those human killings have only happened with orcas that have spent years and years locked up in small pools with little to nothing to do, but perform shows day in day out. @@ChodyRay I don't believe your comment was sarcastic, just want to say that while orcas have sunk a few small boats and bit a surfer in the '70s, they have never killed a human in the wild.
Well I think it's boredom in the tanks. There really isn't much for them to do in small tanks and we know what orcas do with seals when bored, what makes humans so different to them? In the wild where they have pods and plenty of sea creatures to keep themselves occupied were not toys and there willing to help humans as well.
@@ericdraves8298 I am just guessing here, but it could be that wild Orcas don't fully understand humans and their vehicles, so they take a cautious aproach.
Orcas are smart and picky eaters. Humanity only appeared recently, around 200,000 years ago while orcas were around for 11 million years. And we only explored the oceans for a brief amount out of the 200,000 years. And even if they do develop a taste for humans, much like wolves they will still avoid us because they know we can shoot at them with harpoon or guns. And also, they know tourist give them treats after a performance as they often perform when on camera and leave as soon as people put down their camera.
@@mp2k1 Yeah in sea world they tell you not to touch the water because of chemicals in the tank, when really they want to discourage you from becoming a dead playtoy of the orca
The fact that the only Orca attacks have been reported in captivity just goes to show how intelligent they are. They probably realize they are just entertainment for humans at those sea circus shows and it bothers them to a great extent, along with being trapped in such a tiny space and separated from their pod.
The way they can actually communicate I wonder what would happen if captive orcas were set free and told the wild orcas of the cruelty they subjected to by humans if they were intelligent enough for revenge attacks might become common
I think its because they hunt in groups but not individually. They are incredible mammals of sea kingdom. It is so curious that they eat only liver of the pray. They are absolutely intelligent and smart.
@@Eli_73999 Yes, I agree. But I'm talking about slaughter houses, I'd wager that high quality slaughter houses slaughter the animals painlessly by running electric currents, knocking the animals unconscious, you can't feel pain when you're unconscious. Even traditional slaughtering practices such as cutting the major artery or something for a quick death is less painful than being torn in half, being eaten alive or being tossed numerous times around before being eaten. Death by pollution is an indirect way that animals are killed but not relevant in what I'm comparing.

Two out of three, yes. Intelligent, humans are not. Orcas don't 'get along' with humans - they tolerate humans because Orcas are fully aware when they have no choice.
Orcas do that to expel all vomit & empty the bowls from the Seal, while causing allll the adrenaline and endocrine glads to spill. by the time they eat them, they are not just eating the seal, but also indulge in all those chemical produced by it's body during the last "throws" of life edit: spelling & typos

I know you’re joking but on the off chance you think orcas attack humans in the wild....there is no recorded fatal attacks on humans from wild orcas. There is only a handful of non fatal attacks from wild orcas in the whole time humans have existed. There has only been 7 RECORDED attacks on humans from WILD orcas.
I’m doing a research essay about orcas so a lot has popped up in my recommendations. But this video has scared me TWICE when I read the title because I always read it first as “This is why all killer whales are afraid of orcas” There is always a thought of ‘no, are killer whales not orcas!?’ And the short panic before I read again to make sure I am reading right and seeing I am thankfully wrong :)
I can just imagine a alternate timeline where the landmass of earth wasn't as vast as ours is.. a world where humans are mostly seafaring and maybe just recently discovered aeronautics. Would we have tamed seals as dogs? Or orcas, we would be like riding orcas like horses into battles. Or we'd have underwater um chariots pulled by dolphins/orcas.
These comments are so pathetic..who are you inbred CZcams zombies? Go out and touch some grass...its not funny when every little dark post the same comment
Apparently it all started with Orkid, an orca from Seaworld San Diego. She's so intelligent the trainers nicknamed her the "Rocket Scientist." At least that's what I read in a book...
Things in the sea that would f*ck up an orca's world: large & feisty electric eel, a grumpy giant squid, a ravenous megalodon, Betty White's pet crocodile and the Titan's ol' pal the Kraken.

The thing that actually made me fear Orcas was finding out they sometimes hunt Moose! Moose are huge and terrifying as it is I didn’t need to know a Orca would hunt it. I only found that our when I was doing research on Wolves and their prey so... I wasn't prepared to learn that.
Oftentimes, moose dive deep to feed on aquatic plants and that's where the orcas get them.

If it wasn’t for the first human who saved an orca, there would probably be a lot of Hollywood films that are basically like “Jaws” but Orca edition
There was a couple orca evil films.
Did you ever see the *Orca* movie? I have not, but it is popular enough to know about.

The fact that the only Orca attacks have been reported in captivity just goes to show how intelligent they are.
