Fun fact: Adolf-Fredrik was well liked in Sweden beacuse he kept the peace and didn't overstep his limitations on power, leaving the democratic Riksdag to do most of the governing. But as soon as he died his wife started scheming to overthrow the Riksdag and restore the absolute power of the monarchy wich then led Sweden into a catastrophic war with Russia where it lost Finland. If our boy would have shown some restraint and only eaten 13 semlor history could have been different.

Adolf Frederick's life was actually rather sad and boring for monarch. He was born in duke's family, but was one of the pretender to the throne of Sweden. After becoming the king, his rule was constantly in conflict with "Hattpartiet", Party of Hats, who de-facto were real rulers in Sweden. Even raising of his son was taken by the "Hattpartiet", with him having no choice or voice in it. "Hattpartiet" also create the comitee (ständernas commission) that had the right to arrest anyone who supported king's decisions. In the end, they even created the copy of king's stamp with his signature, so they could freely sign any kind of documents without Frederick's intervention. In 1756 the supporters of monarchy rule in Sweden tried to riot against the Party, but they have been jailed, with some of them being executed, which included very close Adolf's friends. Lose in Seven-years war also affected the Sweden and monarchy, which resulted in Adolf's decision to leave the throne for the Hattpartiet. His wife Luise Ulrike was very strict and power-hungry lady, which conflicted with pretty soft and kind nature of her husband (also it seems like after time her personality only worsen). In the end, Adolf Frederick was a monarch who had no son, no country to rule, no loving wife and no close friends to trust to. Man ate himself to his death most likely because of binge-eating due to depression and anxiety.

Well he ate himself to death on something called hetvägg there is a difference semla is a modern cousin to hetvägg. Hetvägg is served in warm milk and is more like a pudding. It was also pretty perverse since people litterally died of starvation in the streets of Stockholm at the time.
