To all Rik Mayall fans in their 30s and 40s, I hope you enjoy this montage in tribute to the late great Rik Mayall playing possibly one of the greatest TV characters, Alan B'stard.
Rik Mayall was a HUGE part of my childhood and teenagehood. I saw the Bottom tour twice. I felt quite teary eyed when watching his stint on Crackanory cos I knew it was the last official performance he did.
The part where he knocks the crutch from the war veteran is one of the best 10 seconds in comedy's history.. Pure gold.. Although I loved "The Bottom", "The New Statesman" is Rik Mayall's magnus opus and an incredible show...
I've occasionally wondered if the scene with Alan B'stard's ear cutting and immolation of Peirce's teddy bear (which I first watched in either late 1990 0r early 91) was the inspiration for Mr Blonde's torture of Officer Marvin Nash, in Quentin Tarantino's "Reservoir Dogs", 3 years later. The similarities are uncanny.
I'm 63 and just showing B'stard (The New Statesman) stuff to my 17 year old son tonight, who already likes the Young ones and Rik in Blackadder goes Forth (especially the Private Plane sketch which is our favourite). Rik was a really funny guy and very missed by us all. So cheesed off when he snuffed it a few years ago.
My favourite scene is when the police respond to the animal activists outside Alan's house. Sarah asks why the police always turn up so quickly when he calls them. Alan shows her a photograph. "Yes, it is a bit of an unusual angle. You see, the man on the left is very high up in Scotland Yard, while the man on the right is very high up in the man on the left!"
Its never too late to discover his works. He did The Young Ones, Bottom and Filthy Rich and Catflap for the BBC (by the way we can see all 6 episodes of Filthy Rich and Catflap here on CZcams) but The New Statesman was an ITV production.
Bought the very first episode on Amazon Prime and halfway through ended up buying the whole season. Truly funny show, and shows how great Mayall was. Sure, funny on Bottom and The Young Ones but here he's more restrained and every bit as funny as ever. Can't believe it's been over five years since he passed and miss him more so☹️
Yeah watching this it's striking how every single second he is on camera , he seems to be utilizing. Looking around the room, reacting to things, dipping in and out of attention with whoever he is talking to. Makes him seem so shifty and untrustworthy. Really is masterful
Ted of Arc. Watched that scene over and over, but still piss myself laughing. Rik was and will always be one of the greatest comedians to ever grace our TV screens. From The Comic Strip to The New Statesman & Bottom. So fucking brilliant it still is upsetting knowing that the bastard's gone... RIP Rik Mayall
It's great because *he portrayed today's political climate* . EDIT: Also Alan reminded of bunch of my friends' friends who are running for office. Mind You, *they are mostly around 18-20 something years old.....scary* (I get involved at my campus' political club lmao)
"God did not put animals on this earth merely to wander around aimlessly like the Labour front bench!" Mint. Applies just as much to the other shower, of course.
@@nickieglazer7065 Ah, you’re one of those who thinks vaccines have mind control chips and stay up late at night to watch conspiracy videos on CZcams, right? Just like the vast hordes of Kevin’s and Karen’s on the Daily Mail comment sections of articles who think it’s all a hoax and it’s all about control.
I should have known that Greg Davies work was not the first piece of black comedy I have ever watched on telly. I should have known that this is a huge bulk of brilliant black comedy. "Why don't you just drape your privates out of the window and have done with it, for God's sake, man." Although that quip comes from my fertile imagination, not from this series. 6/6/23
Im 21 and discovered the Young ones last year and im such a fan of him, he truly was a guy every generation could enjoy
Checkout when Ric received his doctorate
How can you not like Rik Mayall. This stuff is Shakesperian.
He was a fantastic physical comedian but god he was an even better just straight up actor
It's too bad he's mostly known in America for Drop Dead Fred, because he really was a good actor as well as funny as hell.
Ìkk

Hugh Laurie as a waiter, looks even younger than when he was in Blackadder

The guy who played piers along side Rik in the new statesman was Patrick Troutens (2nd Dr Who) son 😜

sarah must love alan really or she wouldnt of married him so she hasnt got a leg to stand on i bet sarah had a mum who hated her
@@pamelabibby8642 Sarah loves his money, power, and blatant viciousness, but would still love to see him be destroyed.
I just love how the character from the young ones has come to life and branded itself antifa
In response to a political climate perfectly encapsulated by B'stard!
Brilliant series. Brilliant Rik.
Rest in peace, the brilliant & much missed comedian & comedy actor Rik Mayall.
Greatest comedian of his generation in my opinion.
5:36 Stephen was such a master of timing when it comes to guttural utterances
A diamond, sadly missed, RIP Rick
DAMN DAMN DAMN! Even though my family came from York, I'm a Yank and have totally MISSED this show all together! BRILLIANT!

The bear interrogation always gets me, especially when he can no longer hear after having his ears cut off.
We have two Piers -like Brighton ! Love Steven Fry too ! 🥳
I'd vote for him.
Encapsulating everything wrong with the UK
You already did.
@@santirank 🤣
@@Gooseplan I’m pretty sure it was a joke.
Didn't even have to say anything his facial expressions were hilarious. True comedy genius. RIP Rik 😎🤘👍

I ABSOLUTELY LOVE RIK MAYALL 🤣🤣🤣🤣👏👏👏👏👏🥰
Pure genius
No one did Blair better than Rik!
I have an Alan B’stard T shirt !
Just noticed the mussolini painting in the restaurant
"WAKE UP, PIERS!" LMAO
I've never watched this before I thought that was brilliant and hilarious and why can't more shows today be like that, stupid question I know
loved this back in the non flake days
The best scene ever is when he parked on that handicapped spot and then hopped away on one leg!!! LOOOL
And 50's! Time goes fast...
I love Rickard Mayall!! He was the sexiest and most talented actor/comedian ever...
Aside from the historian/actor Mark Schneider.... And Stephen Fry.
It'd be hilariously funny today if the current UK government weren't entirely modelled off Rik's B'stard character..........
Bought the box set for my teen who is in college
Studying politics.
Also bought yes minister/Prime minister
You should add people in their 50's lol....... Thank you for the vid.
Haha 😂
I was about to say that
Alan B'stard is basically Borris Johnson
Class TV.........
The legend. He is still my comedy God, my idol, the man I wanna be. Sadly it will never be. I got shot in 85 so that kinda fucked me up.
STEREOSCOPIC VISION SO WE CAN AIM RIFLES!!!
How amusing, Fry cutting up some coke... and probably did it ten minutes after and ten minutes before.
I mean you would wouldn't you
Is it hardly surprising that the torturing the teddy bear scene more controversial than anything else in the programme?
God he was so sexy , especially as B'stard
Why did you cut the brothel scene half-way through: you missed most of the action and the punchline!
You mean the bit where she starts whipping him and he says "I'm not a masochist, I'm a sadist"?
Brilliant. !!!
Bonsoir, back to Bellamy on Botany again and whipping of naughty boys ! You’re not here to enjoy yourself ! 😂😂😂😂
It's great because *he portrayed today's political climate* .

SayaKuro12 Oh please do me a favour if you’re going to try and say he’s like trump 😂
Explain the difference between a tenant and a rent boy.
Fax machine.
And Hugh Laurie 🥳😋
Next Tory Leader!
3:33 clip missed out the punchline!
5:43 omg Hugh! ♥️
I reckon tories actually watch this show without realising its a pisstake.
May I share with you my Alan B'Stard movie trailer?
Yes
DEMONIC
I forgot that Doctor House was in this show...
Well he only had one scene so it's easy to forget :-)
It's Rik Mail, you bastards! That Mayall is overcomplicated.
Love the blackshirt Fascist Mussolini restaurant 😂😂😂
Yeah its about you posted all these dvds of Bew staresmen on.
Priti Patel anyone?
Oh dear...oh dear oh dear 😂😂😂😂
@2:40 isnt that Mary (Patti Clare) from Coronation Street?
Judith Hibbert
What is this show called?
The New Statesman.
The New Statesman, it aired from 1987 to 1992 and was a massive hit on Sunday nights on ITV, millions watched and loved it.
"God did not put animals on this earth merely to wander around aimlessly like the Labour front bench!"

His words became prophetic because he was a prophet just like Charlie Chaplin...u know...!?

Is it the same Teddy 🧸 from Mr. Bean?😅
0:40
It’s basically Dominic Raab.
NOT THE TEDDY BEAR!!!!!
Alan B would make a great pm but he never did make jnr minister but
thank goodness real MPs are not like him !
They're worse!!
Swarthy Jake 🤣
Woken up yet or are you wearing your face nappy like a good little sheeple?!

??
@@pigeonlove In the description, it says "To all Rik Mayall fans in their 30s & 40s...",, sooooo, lol.
I'd rather meet the man who cleans out the public toilets in Aberdeen, wee Jock Poo McPlop...
In the days before Tories became Marxists.
This series is rather relevant now since we are living in the Trump area.
Amy Lufkin What :S. How?
The Tory party are just as bad, if not worse than Trump.
@@mikemoose5701 You ok Snowflake?
@Youwon't GetMyName mad isn't it, imprinted onto their frontal Lobes. Way too much TV lol
Is it weird that despite agreeing with you, I would still vote for Trump?
Sometimes, you need a B'stard in power to get things done.
He was funnier in Bottom...
Ypu missed every punchline to every scene you showed...
Just like your average conservative MP.
