    It's funny how Wogan is expecting a punk rocker type who sets out to offend, and instead gets a studious, thoughtful man who has worked hard on his art.

    • @richardathome65
      @richardathome65 Před 2 lety +26

      No, I disagree; Wogan knew exactly what to expect. He'd been in the business long enough to recognise the difference between actor and character. Part of the interview was Wogan asking Rik whether people in the street confuse him with his characters, which pretty much disproves your theory that he would do exactly that. In fact, Wogan seemed to thoroughly enjoy the stand up routine and the interview. Well done Terry, I say! And of course, very insightful answers from Rik; the guy was a genius.

    Although this is all about how wonderful, articulate, smart, and funny Rik was, I also have to appreciate the brilliant interview style of Wogan. He asks great questions, leads the conversation in a natural manner that never feels like he's railroading, and allows Rik to expand, joke, or be serious as he wishes. He's non-confrontational which allows Rik to relax and be unguarded but he still asks quite probing questions.

I don't understand how these beautiful people get up there simply to help entertain others and possibly get them to laugh. The hours are shit, it's uncertain, and you have to be yourself very much as a comedian, even if it might just be a persona. He was so beautiful. Now, I'm only roughly a year away from how old he was in this interview. He actually is my age, and you can see how young he really was here, how he was shy and sweet and still figuring the whole showbusiness thing out. It's crazy to grow up and see that, right?

They smelt bad, scruffy, so poor, starving. But really clever. You had to be good to go to college. You also had to live like a vagrant. In my case. Family needed my wages. Gave it all up. No college or university for me. Missed my way. Wanted to work in advertising. That was never going to happen. Used to baby sit for a kid that was a real problem for his parents, could not get a baby sitter due to his behaviour. I taught him how to draw over a 3 year period and the rules of pencil art. Happy childhood, could work with the people he got along with, great creative liberty, wholesome family life ... He did what he did out of love of it. Now everything is driven by greed. You cannot have enough, get enough, own enough... even if you have everything, it's not enough.
