    Totally agree with you. Gretzky is the best scorer ever, ever. Not even close, won scoring titles by 70 and 80 points. Amazing.
    But Bobby scored goals and prevented goals and checked people and blocked shots, and still won 2 scoring titles. AMazing. Orr & Gretz are #1 and 1A

    Like I've said in other posts about this... part of being a great player is NOT dealing with injuries. Super Mario couldn't have helped his back issues or his cancer... but that's all part of it. Wayner just had everything going his way... great health, Hall of Fame linemates, no trap... those all combined to make him the "Greatest Player Ever"...
    and I'm Canadian... ;-)

    And, no hockey player in history as ever got close to Gretzky on any stats sheet. Even Gordy Howe, who played over 35 years(!!!) in the nhl. Gretzky has about 2854 pts in career. Of those 2957 pts are 894. He is by far the best scorer ever (and not only scorer). The player who comes in second place on the pts sheet (Mark Messier) isn't even close to match is score with 1887 pts! Nobody can argue this one! And not only was he good, he had charisma, great spirit and he made the game fun to watch.

  • @wentshow
    @wentshow Před 14 lety

    There were only six teams then, but the population was also much lower and the talent was drawn only from Canada. So, I think the pre- and post-expansion talent difference is puffed. Howe's achievements were remarkable, but I never saw him do what Gretzky could. When Gretzky played, it looked like everybody else on the ice was much slower. But he wasn't really faster, it was that everybody else could only respond to him.

    no doubt Orr and Lemieux were more skilled players, but, for those who questions gretzky's greatness, here is a fact:
    if he had never scored any goals in his career, he would still be the all-time point leader in the NHL.
    it's enough for me.

  • @gymguy25
    @gymguy25 Před 13 lety

    Gretzky was easily one of the greatest athletes of all-time, however, all the factors went in his favor (era, team, health). Gordie Howe played his best years before the 80 game schedule was adopted and you could win the scoring title with about 75 pts. That's why he got his one and only 100 pt season (103) at age 40. Did you know Gretzky got his last 100 pt season at age 35 and by 38 he was retired? There's a reason many will argue that Orr, Howe or possibly Lemieux may have been better.

  • @lynch909
    @lynch909 Před 16 lety

    Put Gretzky in this era of no redline and no clutching and grabbing, the guy probably gets 300 pts instead of 200, best ever by far.

  • @EllerySneed
    @EllerySneed Před 17 lety

    Gretzky could read the play like a wizard, he knew where to be and where everyone was without even looking. Quite possibly the best playmaker the game has ever seen. Do I think he is the best "overall" no, that is reserved to Mario even if his stats are behind, Mario had a physically unhealhy career between his back and the cancer, imagine if Gretzky had to endure that?

  • @TheAxeGrinder

    His point total is a record for all of professional hockey, ever. Gordie Howe included his points from the WHA and Gretzky still beat him by 1. The don't call him "The Great One" for nothing

  • @shazariahl
    @shazariahl Před 14 lety

    Howe was widely thought to be the best of all time before Gretzky came along (at least among forwards). But since Gretzky really demolished every record ever, there are few logical arguements for Howe over Gretzky. Howe played even longer, and was incredibly consistant, but never really reached the same heights as Gretzky did during his prime (200+ seasons, winning scoring races by nearly 80 pts, etc). Besides, Gretzky has more assists than anyone else has points, even Howe.

    Lemieux might've been up to Gretzky's par skillwise, but when it comes to pure intelligence he falls short by quite a margin. Sometimes when Gretz played you'd see 2-3 players trying to coordinate a hit on him, but they all missed cuz he just slipped away.
    Also, Gretzky is the one with 60 or so NHL records, including more points per game and more assists than mario has points :).
    No matter who you like the most though, they were both fantastic players no doubt!

    I could have scored on the two set ups Gretzky gave that punk Lindros in the Canada up. Gretzky was better than Lemieux defensively. He did not body check much due to his size, but try getting by him when he was fore checking (he could hem you in or intercept a puck/best read ever), he could also back check, break up a 3 on 1 and skate the other way.

    People are all entitled to their opinion, but Gretzky is so far above everyone else, except Lemieux and Orr, that it's terrifying. I've seen Crosby and Ovechkin play. They'll never do what Wayne did. The stat about him having more assists than anyone else has points really ends all logical discussion of who the best was.

Fine, your opinion on Bobby Orr is your opinion, but if you think Gretzky's accomplishments were from any source aside from his natural talent than you know nothing about hockey.
    Also, Mario Lemieux and Bobby Orr consider Gretzky the greatest of all time - apparently you know more about hockey than those two.
