I absolutely love how free league has created so many official solo rule sets for their games

Love Vaesen and so glad to see it here. Their Great Britain and Ireland supplement is great and for once gives some time to Wales😃

Free League do the most gorgeous books... Check out "Norse Gods", "The Undead", and "Vaesen"; all three are a combination of glorious art and creature books by Johan Egerkrans.

I love Free League, some of the highest quality RPG products out there. I'm all in with Forbidden Lands (waiting for their latest project to ship), but they make so much stuff I'd love to get. But my RPG budget has it's limits. :) Blade Runner and T2K are two I'd love to invest in, but I still have all my 1st Ed T2K stuff and some other Blade Runner itch scratchers. A great run down, I had always assumed it was a Scandinavian CoC. It sounds more like a 19th century Ghost Busters. :)

Can't wait until I get this one to the table. It seems very good based on my read. I loved Alien in play, and it seems even better.

I DM'd a Vaesen game at Gencon while my friend played Alien! In our opinion, Vaesen makes for a better long-term campaign, Alien is better for one-shots. Both are a lot of fun and play similarly (minus the stress rules for Vaesen).

@@martinMARTIN244 wonderful! I thought alien was really only good for one shots, glad to see that's different.

A most intriguing game with an aesthetic that, while similar to some, is truly its own. Getting ready to sink my teeth into it!

Vaesen sounds like it's essentially just "Grimm: the RPG".

  • @MemphiStig
    @MemphiStig Před 5 měsíci

Similar to the tv show Grimm, which didn't get an rpg, tho there is a Grimm rpg where you play as children. (Both Grimms of course meaning the Brothers with the fairy tales.) Looks like a fun game.

    Perfect pronunciation of Vaesen!
Your soft S was a little more German than Swedish, but spot on.
    Fun fact:
Vaesen/väsen/Wesen (modern German writing) means “being”, so by extension “entity, creature”, it stems from the PIE root *wes- that means “to be, to live, to remain” as seen in the simple past “was” in modern English.
I suspect the correct term must originally have been “supernatural beings”, but maybe “väsen”has semantically shifted in modern Swedish. Would make sense, since while every living being is a Väsen, you wouldn’t address anyone as such.
    Anyway, goodbye fellow entities!

Vaesen has been my go-to-game for the last year or so. And my gaming group has expanded beyond both Sweden and Britain with Society bases in Poland, Germany, and New Orleans. It is an easy game to adapt to the local folklore of an area you want to set up base.

we are going to have a french translation in few weeks and you're totally right when you say "it's an easy game to adapt to the local follklore of an area". The crowfunding allowed to developp a french state : Alsace (near Germany).

aww for a moment, When I read the title, I thought you were going to be doing a tour in Ireland .... were you would do solo shows ...... were you would play RPGs by yourself on stage, and I'd watch...... which I suppose would have been a bit much

If you enjoy a historical setting featuring monsters from folklore of various cultures which require investigation into specific means of 'defeating' them, I'd also recommend checking out Witch Hunter 2nd edition. Set around 1690 in a close approximation of world history, albeit with secret societies dedicated to such endeavors, it has some interesting content. Especially it's monster compendium, the "Grand Tome Of Adversaries" which has a collection of not only the expected gothic horrors like witches, undead, and varied demonic entities, but other things such as various native american monsters. It has built-in mechanics for using and creating lore-appropriate weaknesses and abilities on top of a fairly easy d10 dice pool system similar to the Storyteller rpg system.
Notably interesting for those GMs who like to cook up their horrors into powerful baddies with superstitious period flair and unique weaknesses for players to discover. Good inspiration.

@@MeMyselfandDieRPG - Heh! I had trouble finding a print copy of the Grand Tome Of Adversaries (monster manual), as they seemed to be sold out, but a message on the DTRPG product page netted a message from them offering a PoD which I took them up on.
Not sure why they haven't put that up for sale on that site. * shrug * Perhaps they have it PoD elsewhere. Anyway, enjoy!
