- "In this WALB newsfilm clip probably from 1964, WALB reporter Jim Knight questions white residents from Albany, Georgia, near a grocery store and later in front of Midtown Drugs about their reaction to a proposed civil rights bill. The clip begins with Mrs. J. D. Miles, who expresses her disbelief at the bill and declares to stand up for her rights; she feels that African Americans already possess the same freedoms to work and build their neighborhoods as white people. Next, Knight stops two women and a girl; one of the women expresses her concerns about possible violence and her preference that demonstrations remain peaceful. Another unidentified woman interviewed by Knight hopes there will not be any "trouble," and adds, "of course, being a Southerner, I'm not for it at all." A woman who does not have time to be interviewed interjects that she thinks African Americans already have equal rights. A man and a woman walking together decline to comment when they are stopped, as does an older gentleman, who says "What I have to say wouldn't be fit to go on the air." Another man and woman enter the store with a boy and a girl; they feel the bill should be voted upon as part of a national election, rather than forcing an "unwanted" decision upon the nation to accept. Finally, the last woman interviewed attests that she, too, is against the proposed legislation, and admits her concern about living in a neighborhood with African Americans".

What you are using here is a logical fallacy called false equivalency. You can equate the dumb people of society as dumb but what you can't do is equate the past problems to the present. While, no they aren't disconnected they are different. What you have today in America is a class issue not a targeted race issue. Because everyone can and a lot of people have been discriminated against for multiple reasons it varies. If they remain peaceful instead of all the violence that they had,,, she must be speaking of her own people, because as black people in America we were always peaceful!!!
By the late 1960's the civil rights movement shifted with the emergence of Black Power.
The rhetoric is exactly the same, and just as empty as it is today. Conservatives today say that the past was racist, but today is totally fine, so stop asking for more privileges. Conservatives of the past said the same thing, and you can repeat that ad nauseum.
"They have the same rights." Uh, yea they HAVE them, but they aren't enforced. How many whites lost their lives in lynchings for trivial matters without a trial? They could "justify" it all day, though. A black man looking at a white woman was strictly equivalent to murder in their eyes.
Same shit different day, and conservatives wonder why people "criticize" America. They think Kaepernick kneeling is "complaining" because they think these issues don't exist simply because they've never experienced it.
@Elsa 0o no white people were
Elsa 0o Ok but most of them were trying to buy back the family members that y’all hateful ass people sold away🤷🏾♀️
@Elsa 0o why are you mentioning a several hundred yr information regarding to today? You act as if this representative of today's ideology fool
@Elsa 0o take your irrelevant ass somewhere else.
@Elsa 0o - It was right around the time of this video that the "Dixiecrats" (Southern Democrats who were against the Civil Rights Act of 1964) left the Democratic Party and joined the Republicans. And in the nearly half century since, they've spread their cancer of racism throughout the GOP. The "Party of Lincoln" no more.
Sad thing is some of these may be still alive

They may have changed.

This is why there is so much racism today, these People raised children and the views continued, most people don't think critically, they love their parents who are good to them in all kind of ways, surely racism isn't bad or that would make their parents bad
@Stephanie MarieOh so you believe being "white" means you have to hate others who are different??? Instead of calling people racist, I want to know their logic and reason for their opinion.
Half the reasons were uncivil anger and them saying that they got equal rights. What exactly did 'you' hear in this video?

The problem with segregation is that the principle of “separate but equal” was never actually adhered to. The Supreme Court said that separation isn’t equal but that is a lie. Equality refers to living conditions. If two families, on black and one white, live in the exact same type of house but never interact with each other then they are living in equality despite their separation.
0:10 we hear the same line today just without the n-word
Well today, unlike back then, everyone in the US possesses the same opportunity and ability to make something of themselves without the blockades that were present in the past. The civil rights movement of the 1960's was justified, necessary, and was a long time coming. But what is happening today, is not that. Today, people are fighting and rioting because they feel they are owed something, versus being denied the ability to make something of themselves. It is wholly disgraceful in the methods that these protests are being carried out. We are witnessing what, if not handled correctly, will be the final nail in the coffin of this great nation.
