2018 BMW M240i xDrive review: the everyday alternative to the M2?

  • This M Performance-tweaked 2-Series Coupé is almost as quick as the M2 in a straight line, not to mention it's significantly cheaper. So we took it to the track and drove it on public roads to find out if the M240i has what it takes to steal sales from the full-blown M car.

    Very nice car. I dont live in Alaska but I do live in an area with a lot of rain and an occasional ice storm. Xdrive is for me. Thanks for the video.

    Thanks for this review. I wish I could've ordered this interior / seat fabric instead of the Dakota leather when I bought my M240i in Canada. The M2 is coming with a detuned version of the S55 engine next spring... then it will become another beast. Until then, I am really happy with my M240i.

    • @danmiha
      @danmiha Před 6 lety

      Thanks for the feedback, the fabric/Alcantara seats are great indeed. Are you thinking about trading the M240i for the upgraded M2 next year?

    • @zikolaii
      @zikolaii Před 6 lety +1

      I am quite happy with the M240i now. Did a couple mods already and soon a Dinan stage 1 tune and maybe suspension upgrade next spring. I may actually wait for the 2019 model year as I believe it will be a new model then. But a road test with the upgraded M2 with S55 may change my mind.... we will see. :-)

    And you can get the M240i as a Convertible. Sadly BMW doesn‘t offer a M2 Convertible.

    Excellent review. I originally ordered the m2 but decided to buy a Hellcat and BMW 228I. I'm thinking of changing the 228I to either the M240I or M2 but just not sure the M2 compromises are worth it but I do like the look of the M2 much more (1st world problems).

    Nice review. I traded my 435i coupe for a 2017 M240i. I truly love the M240i. Very nimble and fun. It’s scampers when I hit the throttle. 😎

      May I ask why Sir?
      Why not go for, 440i instead?
      I am choosing my next car and i have few in my mind but 240i and 440i are two im lookng at mostly, can you talk about your old 435i and your 240i please? :)
      Thank you

      ONEARMEDBAND1T m240i is faster than the 440i in terms of performance because it's much lighter and has 15 more hp as the 240i is an M performance car but the 440i isn't

    Did this have the m-performance exhaust or standard exhaust?

    • @danmiha
      @danmiha Před 6 lety +1

      No, it had the standard exhaust system.

  • @TheMarkcu24
    @TheMarkcu24 Před 6 lety +2

    But the xDrive is faster than the 240i by .4 seconds in the 0-60mph.

  • @scottslaught
    @scottslaught Před 6 lety +2

    I think the manual is a no cost option on the M240i but your review was excellent

    • @danmiha
      @danmiha Před 6 lety

      That is true for the United States, but in other parts of the world it depends on the market. For example, in France, the M240i Coupe costs 51,100 euros with a manual transmission and 53,300 euros with the automatic. The same goes in Spain, where the manual M240i is 51,800 euros while the automatic is 54,445 euros.

    From 9:12 to 9:16, the needles on the speedometer and tachometer both turn red...how did that happen? I don't think it's because the headlights are on because at 9:45 they are on and the needles are white again...

    • @danmiha
      @danmiha Před 6 lety +1

      The needles turn red in Sport or Sport+ mode. In Comfort mode they are white.

    • @drbachata20
      @drbachata20 Před 6 lety

      Hmm I don't think so, I've seen other videos where the car is in sport mode and the needles don't turn red...

    • @danmiha
      @danmiha Před 6 lety

      My bad, it seems the driving mode is not responsible for the needles changing color. My second guess is a night mode may be responsible for that.

    • @drbachata20
      @drbachata20 Před 6 lety

      Yeah I can't understand...at 8:20 and at 8:30 the headlights are on, he's in sport + and the needles aren't red. The climate control is white and so are the needles. At 9:12, both the climate control and needles go red...Does that perhaps happen with the time of the day as opposed to the switching on of the headlights?

    • @drbachata20
      @drbachata20 Před 6 lety +2

      Found the reason! So when it's dark enough for the automatic headlights to turn on, the climate control lightning will go orange from white and the needles will go from white to red. If you turn on the headlights when it's bright out however, the climate control will remain white and so will the needles! The rear end looks so bad. This car is def better alternative to m2 for those that only care to drive a car 7/10ths and pin it here and there for open straights. If you want to have a better looking better driving slightly faster car get m2.
