Turn Glass Into Crafting Crystals For Epoxy Resin Art - Safe & Easy!

Here’s a very quick video today to show you how you can make #crystals from #crafty pieces that you may already have in your art cupboard. You can also make these crystals from those round #glass #pebbles that I think everyone has lurking in their homes somewhere - Debt at Mixed Media Arts has a great video on breaking up these pebbles, the process is exactly the same for both.
I find this is such a cost effective way of incorporating crystals in your #resin art. Buying those little ready-made crystals can be really expensive for the quantities they come in so why not make your own from resources you may already have. You may also yield a far greater quantity than just buying, for example, the tub of mosaic tiles I already had cost very little (well, they actually cost me nothing because a friend gave them to me, but normally the tub would cost around $11) but by crushing these up I’ll maybe get 10 times more crystals from them than what I would by spending the equivalent on ready-made crystals. This was the inspiration behind making this video.
Even if you don’t have these little #tiles or #glass pebbles already, maybe consider buying those instead of ready-made crystals not only from a cost-saving aspect but also because it was such much fun making these crystals!
So it saves money, it’s fun and I definitely get a sense of pride by incorporating handmade elements into my artwork so maybe you will too.

The very fine dust, yes, that goes in the bin/trash ☺️

What was the benefit of heating them up and cooling them down? Why couldn’t you just break them in the towel?

Hi! So 1, it definitely makes it easier to break up the glass into chips as they crack quite even during the cooling part, and 2, (don't quote me) but I believe this process is what turns potential shards of sharp glass into the safety glass. It must somehow allow for the sharp points and edges to break off when smashed. Hope that helps ☺️
