    One of my favorite things in the world is making plans, I just never follow through with any of them.

      that's exactly me, so when he said that there prob is a divide between making plans and implementing them which would separate the iq dimensions from the contentious dimension, I felt that was spot on.

      Impulse control , motivation and task execution has more to do with implementing a plan or following through an order or any idea. It has to do with the part of the brain mentioned in the video, the orbitofrontal cortex, the part just under the frontal (your forehead), which actually makes plans/imagines/IQ. its two different parts of the brain, and if you have less connections between them and your limbic system (center of the brain where emotions calls to you doing things), you won't feel the urge to execute any of it.

    I have low orderliness but high industriousness. And JP rarely talks about these types of people. I am often workaholic but I like to work on a variety of things and new things. And I cannot stop starting new projects so that sometimes I lose interests in old projects and make people seem as I’m a lazy.

    I seem to have an odd combination.
    I like order and precision. I work in manufacturing engineering with machines to make components to specific tolerances and enjoy it. I like art deco - clean lines and geometric shapes.
    I am NOT tidy. I have to actively fight impulsivity. I don't follow through with plans - I start projects and hardly ever finish even though I have plenty of time to do them.
    All this really annoys me and I am often disgusted with myself for failure to resist the impulsiveness.

      I've noticed in my own life, it's my agreeableness that keeps me within tolerances and machining beautiful parts. I signed an agreement that I'd work to such a degree for such pay and doing so in an orderly way creates the best productivity.
      Home life wasn't the same until I "signed an agreement" with myself and literally scheduled everything from doing dishes, and grocery shopping, to vacuuming the couch. Sometimes we gotta lean on our strengths to help with our weakness. As time has gone on, my home is more orderly, even though it doesn't come naturally, it has gotten easier.
      I'd wager, there is some similar workaround that helps in your life, I hope things get better for you, my dude.

      @@orangetaho4u207 Thanks for that. I have also found that scheduling tasks makes me much more likely to do them. I'll give that contract thing a go. Up until now I have just been relying on myself knowing that I need to do something. Perhaps being more explicit and signing a literal contract with myself will help.

      From the agreeableness perspective, it really helped me. "I don't wanna make the boss mad so I do my job well." In this case, future me is the boss I don't wanna let down. I promised future me this task would be completed so I'm going to use this time to do that.
      I'd imagine there is some flip side where a disagreeable person could use his future self as an adversary to overcome, or other traits one could lean on, as I've learned I'm hyper agreeable and not every technique is one size fits all.
      I love me some JP, not because I see him as some all knowing type of person; but, he gets the good conversations going. He puts the train on the right track and let's people travel it themselves.

    No wonder why IQ and industriousness are not related. Industrious people don't have it in their DNA to admit they're wrong. So, they carry out their plans, even though they should realize part way through that their plans are lower quality than alternative updated plans.

      @MidnightAssass1n Před rokem +4

      I think you’re missing the point of no correlation. You seem to be thinking of a negative correlation. No correlation means if you’re industrious it’s a coin flip if you have a high IQ or not

    Industriousness is explained by Jesus in Luke 19:15 "And it came to pass, that when he was returned, having received the kingdom, then he commanded these servants to be called unto him, to whom he had given the money, that he might know how much every man had gained by trading."
