    For any of these businesses claiming significant losses over a three day period. This wasn't a week prior decision but rather several months before. If they failed to change their business practices to adjust for the suspected change that is their fault.

    • @RedwolfTalk
      @RedwolfTalk Před rokem +1

      If these businesses are failing because a 2 day change it isn't because of those 2 days! It means their business model sucks and maybe they should revamp themselves to make money year round and not bank on a few days.

One place (Grices) is claiming to lost in the hundred of thousands of dollars. Whether that be over a single weekend or the previous 3 years is unknown but I believe it is the single weekend.

    Pa deer season opening day is about hunters and hunting, not businesses and business owners. Sorry to sound inconsiderate but that’s the bottom line. All I here is the argument that the change hurt the income of businesses. I don’t buy my hunting license and sight my rifle in to shop or go to a restaurant. It’s about hunting, keep it at that. What’s best for PA HUNTERS, not everyone else.

    • @brianmartin3084
      @brianmartin3084 Před rokem +1

      I agree, it's about hunting, but everything is connected. The time spent Friday Saturday and Sunday meant a lot to my hunting over the years. Hunting with my extended family was more than going out and shooting deer. It was playing cards, eating, fellowshipping, together etc.. all these things have an effect on the local economy, and my hunting experience. There's no longer time for fellowshipping together, mentoring youth, and building traditions. In the long run, this Saturday opener is going to decrease the number of hunters. Less hunters means less representation in the political realm. That's going to be bad news for the future of our sport. I believe when hunters are minimized, our 2nd amendment rights will be next.

      @@brianmartin3084 you can still do everything you done before without taking time hunting time off of other people that wouldn’t have had it otherwise. It’s not the PGC job to keep the economy running smooth, their job is managing wildlife, but even so, I guarantee you can’t provide proof of businesses doing bad BECAUSE of the opening day of deer season. Saturday is the only day that makes sense. Now Pa needs to make another move for hunting and open up all Sundays and give hunters even more opportunity.

    It’s very interesting that Bob or Bobs Army Navy didn’t discuss this point in any of the interviews he gave. I actually visited Bobs twice after they mentioned the closing and talk with many of the staff and Bob and no one mentioned this as an issue for the reason they closed. I believe you have a bulleted points list which wasn’t in the store so not sure why or when it was produced. Also during his many interviews you think he would make this pint since it would be the last time he had a chance to make his point heard on such a scale.

    • @RedwolfTalk

      If a business fails because of 2 days a year difference that's on the business and business alone. Bobs closing had nothing to do with opening day, just today's online and post covid economy.

    What is the overall rate of decrease over the last 5, 10, 15, and 20 years?

    • @johnframpton1028
      @johnframpton1028 Před rokem

      Average rate of decrease for a 3% since 1982. In 2019 ther was a .4% increase by 12/31/2019 not sure where the year finished. With out a loss the net could be seen as 3.4+%, but that is if in 2020 we didn’t loose 6%. I haven’t seen data for 20-22. But am sure the PGC will present that in the January meeting. I think youth licenses increased by more than 4% in 2019 but would need to go back a check.

    It’s unfortunate that these business have been effect by this change. For the retail would you find out some trend data? Retail brink and mortar has been on the decline. Had these business been declining on that weekend or have they stated the same for the past 5 yrs? Also the first year can be tough as people adjust to a change. You should go back and evaluate why the stays is of the business over that weekend. So trend data on the businesses is very important to either side of the argument. 5 yrs prior and all years since.

    I hope that common sense will prevail and that a mistake was made will be corrected. I was a family that lived down state that would trek up to Potter for the Opening day of buck and trout season. The Monday start gave us time to clean up after Thanksgiving and time to get last minute supplies. We looked forward to Camp and revisiting a broad generation of hunter ages. Stories at the big kitchen table were priceless gems. Spending time shopping in the Coudersport stores and going out to eat, dance and a meal just addded to the special moments of the soon to be big day. That has all been destroyed by a distorted opinion of the game commision needs to be turned back to a Monday start. This doesnt affect me these days as I moved to Potter to enjoy this place all the time. I hope common sene and our voices are heard,, but the next season will be more of this damaging nonsense. The Pennsylvania Game Commission should never consider the economic impact of when a season begins or ends.
    The job of the Pennsylvania Game Commission is to manage the wildlife within the borders of Pennsylvania.
