I know that you know that most aftermarket brands of cabin air filters don't say up next to the arrow on the filter but they say air flow instead and should point down. The word up on the Toyota parts and filter are simply telling us which side goes up and are not indicating air flow direction.

Excellent demonstration on both air filter replacements. My prime is getting close to it's 20,000 service. My last visit was at 15,000. I was told the cabin filter will need replacing at 20,000 miles. I find it hard to believe that a filter would need replacing that soon. Can you tell me when the engine air filter should be replaced and when the cabin filter should be replaced. I did read (have to confirm) that the cabin filter should be replaced every 40,000 miles.
It'll cost 81 dollars for such a simple procedure.
Oh, can I go to pep boys and get their brand filter? I notice you only used Toyota brand. Any reason for that?

You get what you pay for. I used to use factory parts too. I change my cabin air filter every 3 months .. even if not that dirty .. I want to have max air flow and reduce the stress on blower motor. I use aftermarket ones for 1/3 of the factory part price .
